“I’ve seen these cars in person when they were new at Straman’s over next to the Orange County Airport. The workmanship is superb. No one believes me when I say that there was a convertible CRX.
More importantly than that, no one believes there was EVER a teddy bear wheel made for any car – and I’ve told stories about them on a Volkswagen Cabriolet I once had. I have only ever seen ONE at a tire dealer. Never a complete set.

“In 1979 a friend of mine’s brother bought a new first year RX-7. I had the opportunity to drive it. My car was a 1200 cc Corolla. By comparison the RX-7 seemed so fast and handled like it was on rails. In retrospect they only had about 100 hp, but I thought I was in a fire breathing racecar. Fun times!”

“I’m having a stroll down memory lane this morning. My mom owned this 914 for about 33 years. She loved this car and enjoyed thousands of miles behind the wheel. She ran it a few times in the late 70’s and early 80’s in Corvette/Porsche rallies. I cruised the Puyallup loop in it back in high school. Got beat in a drag race against at Mustang. I can share some vintage photos of the car if the new buyer would like them. GLWTA I will be watching fondly. By the way it was originally bronze.”

Every time I see one of these it brings back really good memories. And trust me these things were built Ford tough. all the door jams on the early cars like this one we’re all painted my hand. “As we all know, cars are a huge bridge in bringing people together. I first met this car in a garage at Sonoma Raceway attracted by its rad stance. Ventured into the garage with my 11yo and the owner says “go ahead, take a closer look, get in it!” A small conversation later and come to find out he is neighbors with a good friend of mine. We hve been good friends ever since.

“Long ago,(Y2Kish) my parents owned a small apt complex where a 85 year old lady was a long time tenant. She had a Fairlane almost identical to this, but a coupe, with an automatic. And she patronized a muffler shop with a sense of humor. I hope they didn’t charge her too much for making it sound almost exactly like a GT350. Braaaap!
The dog dish hubcaps found both here and on Mrs. Nitzkowski’s Fairlane reminded me of her Humane Society bumper sticker. “It’s OK if my dog is driving.…”
