    “@WIZZZZ
I met Fred at Bonneville in 1963. He had set a 2-way record the previous year at 99.06 mph with his absolutely stock Corvair Monza. I had managed to go 107 mph with my stock 61 Corvair but needed bigger tires. Fred told me that Rambler Station Wagons had 15″ wheels that would fit Corvairs. There was a little junk yard on the outskirts of Wendover, Utah right on the state border with Nevada. I went down there and found a Nash Rambler in there with two 6.40 X 15″ tires (1 was…”

“Last summer the Eastern PA Chapter of the Audi Club did it’s annual covered bridges drive and ice cream run. A very fun and spirited ~150 mile drive. I show up in my 1989 80 Quattro, my wife drove our 2001 TT 225 Roadster, and a guy I had never seen before at any Audi event shows up in one of these. Jaws dropped. He was super nice, down to earth, and had no problem with any of us getting in and checking it out.”

“This is what the first-gen Celica liftback was meant to be. We got what was spec’ed for US market, same chassis but with the big 5mph bumpers and a much lower-performance engine. The 20R is great for a truck, but 100 hp at 4800 rpm isn’t as much fun as an 18R-G140 hp at 6500 rpm in a sub-2500 lb car.

Were the dash and console panels painted gray? I believe all the RA29s had woodgrain vinyl stickers, which harked back to the 2000GT’s beautiful woodwork, but perhaps that was also…”

“Back in the year 2001, I had this long-held notion I’d own a BMW 2002 in the YEAR 2002. So, obviously I began my search too early and found one far too quickly. So, In the dead of Winter, I rented a car and drove from Michigan to Washington DC and bought an Inka 1973 2002tii with sunroof. I drove it home, missing the blizzard in Pennsyvanis by a half day.
A few years later, in 2005, when I moved to the West Coast I drove it to from Michigan, covering 5000 miles within a month — crossing…”

“I owned an ‘85 nearly identical to this. I drove it the way Carroll Shelby intended. I quickly installed the Mopar Performance logic module and after getting the timing dialed in and an AutoMeter boost gauge installed, I was even more ready to “Go Like Hell.” So, one Friday evening in the spring, I was laying down rubber in first and second gear at each stop.

“Automatics are great – First, generally driven less spiritedly over their lifetime. Second, the automatic is actually very good. My auto on back roads, 2nd gear could go from about 25 mph to 70 mph. Often with a group of other 02s, I would be pushing the car in front of me that was modified. Third, the auto works while you find that 5 speed that is wider than a 4 speed and what else is wider? The tunnel in an automatic. No hammer needed for installation.

“This was my Dad’s car. I learned to drive a stick in this car and took my drivers test for my license. He and I worked on it together and we would race through the mountains. When he was over seas, my mom and I had to drive it weekly to keep it running. both of my parents are in heaven. My mom is looking down at me, saying what in the hell are you thinking? My dad is looking down at me and saying hell yeah!”

In addition to buying a tested and regularly driven car, you are buying a top-tier seller. I’ve had the pleasure of over a decade of friendship with the seller and his is a dedicated, knowledgeable, and passionate steward of his cars. Thank you for the shout Randy @BaT – I would’ve missed the listing otherwise. Time travel is fun, eh?
I bought this car in Las Vegas in 2012 after years of hunting for a good one. Even back then, they were quite rare. On the drive home to San Francisco, I took a dirt detour through Titus Canyon in Death Valley, and you can see pics from that in the original auction gallery. “The 330 GTC has always been a favorite of mine. And the 512BB. When I was first working out of college in the early ’80’s my wife and I honeymooned in San Francisco and I dragged her to Ferrari Los Gatos, and there on the floor were my two dream cars, a 330 GTC sitting next to a 512BB. I remember them being in the $25 – $35K range? And thinking, I’ll be able to afford one of those. Unfortunately life intervened and prices for these cars increased but I was finally able to realize a dream…”

I started discussing the car with Chuck Beck in early 2020, and pulled the trigger in October of 2020. It was a 3 year build process, and I visited the factory many times during the build. My wife was involved too, and picked out the interior colors. I think it turned out nicely. Thanks for all the positive comments.”
