My first car was a Topaz Yellow ‘76 GL 4 door with 90k miles that I bought in 1980 from my local Saab dealership, Reinertsen Motors. It was $3000, but I traded in my 1 year old Motobecane moped, so net cash was $2400 (plus tax). I later traded that 99 at Reinertsen Motors for a ‘74 Carolina Blue 99 LE like this one because I preferred the utility of the hatchback and it looked more up to date at the time as the 900 was…”

“in all this auction excitement, I’ve devoted a certain amount of my morning coffee time searching the internet for my own Ferrari 288 GTO – a number of which are thankfully within my price range, including Walmart, for about $100.
However, due to their scaled down 1:18 size and non-running status, it’s unlikely I’ll be driving it anywhere other than “my imagination” during this lifetime.
Perhaps my NEXT lifetime.”

“Another interesting fact thanks to Andy is this car was shipped on August 17, 1965 and delivered to Hayward Motors in CA and on the deliver truck were two additional 350’s as well as a prototype GT40….now that would be a cool truck to see driving down the road!!! This car is a statement piece and one of the true great American muscle cars.”

“I knew this was a California car as soon as I saw the chrome wheels. In the 90s, my uncle, who was a doctor in Newport Beach, bought this exact same spec. As a kid who was used to being toted around in spartan Volvos, I thought it was the fanciest car I had ever sat in.
FWIW early 1UZ-FEs are non-interference engines so timing belt failure (which is rare) is not necessarily catastrophic.”

“@gtrdave I really like your comment about how 1967 fits in the Mopar muscle evolution. Up to this point the engineers were designing and building race cars and the styling was irrelevant to their efforts. Marketing was catching on to what was going on with the GTO and subsequent successes by the competition even though Mopar still held the performance advantage. “Scoops and stripes” and cool names were the answer and the 1967 B-bodies nailed it. Even if you couldn’t afford the Hemi the 440…”
