“I’m so excited! I lost a 1998 c43 sedan in a fire 5 years ago and have told myself to wait for the wagon and I finally have one! Plus it’s my birthday next week!”

“This is an absolutely stunning car. We had this one at Macchinissima III and it was a favorite. I had the pleasure to drive it a little bit. It is very approachable but the Ford engine does scream with all the best noises. Condition is on another level of this one.”

“My grandfather bought one of these new back in the day and got a surprise when he picked it up after its first scheduled service at the dealership. The service writer put “Aspen” on the repair order, so my grandfather asked him to correct it. Confused, the service guy walked over to his car and pointed at the “Aspen” badge on the side of the car. They walked around to the drivers side and were greeted by a “Volare” badge! I assume the workers on the assembly line just grabbed the…”

“Thanks P 38. I went to college driving a new R1 with air-conditioning. And automatic. I dated.my wife in a red Avanti. Married in 1965 and sold the Avanti get a car with a bench seat for our daughter’ s car seat. I have known where my original car is but have tried unsuccessfully for 30 years to buy it. When this car came along, I said what the heck. I’m excited to have a supercharged car and relieve some old memories. That is a lot of what the old car hobby is about.”

“I grew up in my family’s Pontiac dealership that opened in 1967. Crazy about high performance Firebirds & GTOs, especially the rare & special round port cars. From RAII in 1968 (356 cars), RAIV in 68 & 69 (1808 cars), 455 H.O. in 71 & 72 (5037 cars) and the last of the Mohicans, SD-455 in 73 & 74 (1296 cars). “I had one 50 years ago. Definitely fun and to say driving is a “vintage experience” doesn’t really cut it. It’s pretty much pre-war in feel, but with more power. You are exposed to the elements to about the same degree as a motorcycle with a windshield, and the chassis is the best British custom: suspension that allows you to drive over a dime and tell if it’s heads or tails, and tires with similar width to a current electric mountain bike.”

“In high school I drove a ’66 mustang with a 289 and a ’66 red convertible 6 cyl similar to this. I always really enjoyed the 6 cyl version. It was much easier to steer, and somehow felt more fun and nimble.
Still have the 289 (notchback, Ivy Green Metallic). It was my Mom’s car from new and has been lovingly taken care of. One day it will pass to my nephew.”

Home will be in NC and R&D testing on the Blue Ridge Parkway then demonstrated at The Vintage! Thanks for a great bidding battle!”

“I made a comment on this auction before an epic 10 day trip to Italy. I’m back. The auction is still going!
I was in northern Italy (Milan and Lake Como) and guess how many Ferraris I saw?
One. One solitary 296… in ten days.
My son: “Dad, where are all the Ferraris?”
    Me: “In the USA.””

“Mezger engine block was literally built to be wailed on at redline for 24 hrs straight, it’s nearly impossible to destroy it, you have to be intentionally holding it past redline for probably 1 hr+.
Reminds me of the old cash for clunkers video where they emptied the oil pan on an 80 series landcruiser, put it in neutral, and floored it. It took like 20+ mins at past redline for the engine to give out with no lubrication.”

If coming west stay off 80 at night when rainy lol. 200’s are the best when on point.”

“A perspective: I own a 911sc converted to an ev with a P100D motor in it. It’s the most fun car i’ve ever owned. I also have a beetle with a 60hp type 1 and that is also super fun. There’s room in the world for all types! I’m certain this 2002 has a soul and personality, will bring smiles to all who get to experience it, and would be a blast to drive. Good luck to the buyer and seller!”

It came second in the Giugiaro class, which (of course) was judged by Giugiaro; best in class was a Ghibli, which he mentioned was his favorite of his designs. The level of meticulous work and knowledge at Chuck’s shop has to be seen to be believed. As Frank said, back then not many knew that these cars even existed. Nice to see them getting their propers.”
