Belgian National Day in Hua Hin brought together more than 100 Belgian expats at Hard Rock Cafe Hua Hin on Tuesday, 21 July.

Michel Parys, Belgium’s ambassador to Thailand, was welcomed to the event by Frank Clovyn and Dirk De Cuyper from Hard Rock Cafe Hua Hin.

“I’m always interested in meeting Belgians and hearing about their experiences, their success stories, their challenges and what they worry about,” Mr Parys said.

The ambassador added that around 300 Belgians living in Hua Hin and the surrounding area are currently registered with the Embassy of Belgium in Thailand.

Guests were served a selection of Thai and Belgian-inspired canapés, including vol-au-vents and Belgian fries.

During his visit, Mr Parys also toured several Belgian-owned businesses in the Hua Hin area, including Baan Fostier Hua-Hin, Brasserie de Paris Hua Hin and Heritage Bakery & Deli Hua Hin.

He also met Hua Hin-based photographer Patrick Jacobs and novelist Michel Dejolier, who each presented him with copies of their books.

The gathering gave members of Hua Hin’s Belgian community an opportunity to celebrate their national day together and meet their country’s ambassador.
