Hua Hin dog quarantine cages to be repaired
Hua Hin Municipality is preparing to repair and possibly expand its dog quarantine cages after complaints about stray dogs and a shortage of space for animals awaiting transfer to a shelter.
Mayor Nopporn Wuttikul chaired a meeting on Wednesday, 17 June, to consider measures to address problems with the city’s existing dog quarantine facilities. The meeting was held at the Mayor’s office at Hua Hin Municipality.
Officials attending included Natthawan Mitdee, Secretary to the Mayor; Chief Petty Officer Likit Noonin, Deputy Municipal Clerk; Thanathat Chaikhao, Director of the Public Health and Environment Division; Wariya Yooyen, Acting Head of the Public Health Services Section and Head of Disease Prevention and Control; and other relevant officers.
Repairs planned for Hua Hin dog quarantine cages
The meeting followed complaints from residents about the number of stray dogs in several areas of the municipality. An inspection found that the current dog quarantine cages, which are used to hold dogs before they are moved to the shelter, were not sufficient for the number of animals being collected.
Officials said the shortage meant the municipality could not continue taking in dogs from areas where complaints had been made.
The meeting proposed repairing the existing damaged cages so they can be used again. If the repaired cages are still not enough, the municipality will consider building additional quarantine cages to increase capacity.
The aim is to allow Hua Hin Municipality to respond more effectively to stray dog complaints and manage the transfer of captured dogs to the shelter in a more orderly way.
