Hua Hin explores CCTV with AI-enabled facial recognition systems
Hua Hin is exploring the use of CCTV with AI-enabled facial recognition systems as part of plans to strengthen public safety and modernise urban management. The proposal was discussed during a meeting chaired by Nopporn Wutthikul on 24 April at Hua Hin City Municipality.
The meeting brought together representatives from several agencies, including Pol. Lt. Col. Samoe Yu Samran, adviser to the mayor; Jeerawat Phrommanee, Municipal Clerk; Isara Poolsawat from the Strategy and Budget Division; and officers from the Tourist Police.
AI-enabled CCTV plans focus on safety and efficiency
Officials discussed plans to expand and upgrade the city’s CCTV network, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence technology. The proposed system would use facial recognition and real-time image analysis to improve monitoring capabilities and support law enforcement operations.
The use of CCTV with AI-enabled facial recognition systems is intended to help authorities respond more quickly to incidents, identify individuals where necessary, and improve overall situational awareness in key areas.
Nopporn said the municipality is prepared to work with all relevant sectors to ensure a coordinated approach. This includes expanding CCTV coverage across important locations and developing systems that are suited to local conditions.
The initiative forms part of efforts to move towards a “Smart City” model, with technology playing a central role in improving public services and safety. Officials said that further investment will be made to increase the number of CCTV cameras and enhance system capabilities over time.
Hua Hin City Municipality added that it will continue to allocate budget for the development of CCTV infrastructure, with the aim of strengthening public confidence and improving quality of life for residents.
