Chinese tourist accused of one-star review scam at Hua Hin noodle shop
A Chinese tourist who had allegedly posted one-star reviews for numerous other eateries in Hua Hin has been accused of refusing to pay for a meal at a local noodle shop, in an incident that drew widespread attention on social media.
The case emerged on 20 March 2026, when users shared a post by the noodle shop Bua Bua Bua Bua Yen Ta Fo Tom Yum in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. Photos accompanying the post showed police officers speaking with a woman who had reportedly eaten at the restaurant but declined to settle the bill. She was later identified as a Chinese national.
According to the shop owner, the woman began eating at around 3pm and remained at the premises until closing time. As staff prepared to shut the restaurant, she allegedly complained that the noodles were too sweet and refused to pay, despite having finished the meal.
The owner also claimed that the woman subsequently left a one-star review for the restaurant.
Police called after alleged refusal to pay
The social media post further alleged that the same tourist had left one-star reviews for numerous eateries across Hua Hin. Police were called to the scene and later took the woman to a police station to resolve the dispute.
The shop owner said the woman continued to refuse payment at the station, reportedly stating that she did not have any money. The owner then asked her to delete the negative reviews she had written about restaurants in the area.
An official daily record of the incident was filed, according to the post.
The incident has since prompted discussion among local residents and business operators about customer disputes and the influence of online reviews on small businesses.
