Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Shah Ghulam Qadir has strongly rejected the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) allegations of election rigging, describing the claims as “baseless” and insisting that the election results genuinely reflect the will of the people.

Addressing party office-bearers and workers from across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as representatives of Kashmiri refugees from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) residing in Pakistan, Qadir congratulated supporters on what he described as a decisive electoral victory for the PML-N.

He said the party was preparing to establish a stable government in AJK under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to Qadir, the upcoming government will focus on accelerating development projects and improving public welfare across the region.

Highlighting the party’s previous tenure, Qadir said that infrastructure and development initiatives undertaken by the PML-N in AJK demonstrate its commitment to serving the people. He added that the party remains determined to address public concerns and deliver essential services at the grassroots level.

With the final phase of polling in Rawalakot Division scheduled for August 10, Qadir appealed to party workers to maintain peace, cooperate with election authorities, and help ensure a smooth electoral process. He expressed confidence that voters in Rawalakot would extend their support to the PML-N, predicting a strong electoral performance in the division.

Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Qadir reiterated that the elections in Mirpur Division, Muzaffarabad Division, and the 12 refugee constituencies reserved for Kashmiris from IIOJK settled in Pakistan were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. He argued that the election results clearly demonstrated public confidence in the PML-N.

Qadir also criticised the PPP, suggesting that the party should focus on addressing governance challenges in Sindh rather than questioning the electoral process in AJK.

The meeting was attended by several senior PML-N leaders, including AJK Legislative Assembly member Raja Muhammad Riasat Khan, former minister Sardar Farooq Sikandar, Kashmir Council member Malik Muhammad Hanif, and other party officials, who congratulated Qadir on the party’s performance in the recently concluded phases of the AJK elections.

Despite missing out on the podium, he remains one of Pakistan’s most successful athletes and has consistently represented the country with distinction at international events. Arshad has previously won medals at major competitions and is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading javelin throwers.     The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all public and private educational institutions on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). According to the Sindh School Education Department an official notification has been issued confirming that all government and private schools across the province will remain closed. Public and private colleges will also observe the holiday. The order applies to all educational institutions in Sindh, and the department has instructed school and college administrations to fully follow the notification. Every year the Sindh government declares a holiday for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). This year’s announcement has been made in advance so that students parents and teachers can plan their schedules accordingly. It is important to note that educational institutions in Sindh are scheduled to reopen on August 3, 2026, after the summer vacation, before closing again the following day for the Chehlum holiday.

    Pakistan urges UN to enforce Gaza peace Plan

    UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to ensure the immediate and complete implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and the UN-backed peace framework, warning that continued delays could jeopardise hopes for lasting peace and the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Speaking during a UN Security Council debate on the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the current situation presented a critical opportunity to advance peace but stressed that urgent action was needed to prevent further deterioration. He said the ceasefire and the internationally endorsed peace initiative offered a pathway to reduce humanitarian suffering and support Palestinian self-determination. However, he cautioned that failure to fully implement the agreement and Security Council Resolution 2803 would seriously undermine efforts to achieve a just and durable settlement. The Pakistani envoy voiced concern over developments in the occupied West Bank, accusing Israel of expanding settlements, establishing new outposts and allowing increased settler violence, which he said was changing the demographic and geographic landscape of the occupied territories. He also criticised the proposed “Crimson Thread” project, describing it as a network of military infrastructure that would isolate Palestinian communities, divide the Jordan Valley from the rest of the West Bank and weaken the prospects of a contiguous Palestinian state. Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Ahmad said conditions remained extremely fragile despite the ceasefire. He noted that millions of Palestinians continued to face severe hardship, with widespread food insecurity, continued civilian casualties and large-scale displacement raising concerns over the full implementation of the peace plan. Pakistan urged the Security Council to take immediate action by ensuring the ceasefire agreement is fully enforced, demanding an end to Israeli settlement expansion, rejecting annexation and forced displacement, providing international protection for Palestinian civilians and ensuring the release of withheld Palestinian revenues to support essential public services. Reaffirming Islamabad’s longstanding position, Ahmad said the only sustainable solution remained the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (East Jerusalem) as its capital. The ambassador also expressed concern over wider instability across the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue to prevent further escalation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and backed diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. Highlighting concerns over attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping routes, Ahmad said such actions threatened regional stability and global trade, while reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty. Concluding his address, the Pakistani envoy said lasting peace in the Middle East would remain impossible as long as occupation continued and the Palestinian people were denied their right to self-determination. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace based on UN resolutions and international law.

The university also highlighted her leadership in establishing the All India Muslim League Women’s Committee in 1937, an initiative that helped spread the message of the Pakistan Movement among women across the subcontinent and strengthened their political participation.     Pakistan unveils four-year Hajj policy

    The government has introduced a four-year Hajj policy covering arrangements from 2027 to 2030. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf presented the policy on Wednesday. He described it as a major step toward improving and modernising Hajj arrangements in Pakistan. Speaking at a briefing, the minister said this was the first time the government had introduced a four-year Hajj policy. He said the initiative would provide a long-term framework for organising the pilgrimage. Yousaf said the policy had been prepared under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It focuses on technology, transparency and improved services for pilgrims. According to the minister, the new framework aims to bring Pakistan’s Hajj arrangements closer to international standards. It will also introduce several new facilities for pilgrims. For the first time, applicants will have access to a registration and waiting-list system. The government expects the system to make the process more organised and transparent. The minister said the government and private Hajj schemes would retain their existing quota division. Sixty per cent of the quota will remain with the government scheme, while private operators will receive 40 per cent. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will continue to oversee and regulate Hajj arrangements. It will also monitor the performance of private Hajj companies. Under the new policy, applicants will be able to enter the pilgrims’ list after paying 10 per cent of the required amount. The government has also planned greater transparency in procurement. Purchases made in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be carried out through transparent procedures. Yousaf said any money remaining after meeting the required expenses would be returned to the pilgrims. The measure is aimed at improving financial transparency and protecting the interests of Hajj applicants. The government also plans to change the way private Hajj companies are monitored. Their registration and oversight will not depend only on the quota allocated to them. Instead, their performance will be an important factor in determining their registration and continued participation in the Hajj programme. A digital complaint-resolution system is also being introduced. Pilgrims will be able to submit complaints and seek quick action through the new system. An appeal mechanism will also be established. This will provide pilgrims with another channel to challenge decisions or seek resolution of their complaints. The minister said the government would also improve training programmes for Hajj pilgrims. The aim is to prepare pilgrims more effectively before their departure for Saudi Arabia. The Hajj Muhafiz Scheme will continue under the new policy. The government considers the scheme an important part of its arrangements for pilgrims. Yousaf said the new policy had been developed in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The framework is intended to improve coordination and service delivery during the pilgrimage. The minister said the government’s objective was not limited to managing logistical arrangements. It also wanted to ensure that Pakistani pilgrims received a dignified and comfortable Hajj experience. The estimated cost of the government Hajj package is expected to remain between Rs1.2 million and Rs1.3 million. However, the final cost may depend on various arrangements and expenses associated with the pilgrimage. Yousaf also clarified that any increase or decrease in Pakistan’s Hajj quota would require a decision from the federal cabinet. He said Pakistan had received recognition and awards for its Hajj arrangements in the past. The government now wants to further improve the system through long-term planning and greater use of technology. The four-year policy is expected to provide greater continuity in Hajj preparations. Officials believe the long-term framework will also make planning easier for both the government and pilgrims.
