    Federal agents arrest armed suspect near Donald Trump’s California golf course

    Federal and local law enforcement officers in California have arrested a 38-year-old man who was observed taking photographs and monitoring security preparations at President Donald Trump’s golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, two days before the president was scheduled to attend a political fundraising dinner at the venue. The suspect, identified as Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California, was taken into custody on Sunday afternoon by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and federal agents. Authorities revealed that Taele had initially been spotted on the grounds of Trump National Golf Club on Friday, wearing an earpiece while filming federal personnel carrying out security assessments. Upon returning to the property on Sunday, Taele allegedly approached federal agents, falsely claimed to work for the US Department of State on a security detail, and admitted to possessing a loaded weapon inside his vehicle. Upon searching the suspect, law enforcement officers recovered a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition from his clothing. A subsequent search of his pickup truck parked on the property yielded a loaded 9mm pistol, additional hollow-point rounds, binoculars, and a fake badge reading “security protection agent”. Officers also determined that Taele was actively wanted in connection with an unrelated robbery investigation conducted by the El Segundo Police Department. Following the arrest, agents from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau executed a search warrant at Taele’s residence in Downey. Investigators seized an illegally modified short-barrelled AR-style rifle, a .45-calibre handgun, body armour, high-capacity magazines, extensive ammunition supplies, and notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements”. Taele, a decorated US Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2008 and 2016, faces both state and federal charges. State prosecutors in Los Angeles County have charged him with second-degree robbery, possession of a short-barrelled rifle, manufacturing or receiving a large-capacity magazine, and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle. He pleaded not guilty to state charges on Tuesday and remains held on $250,000 bail. Federal prosecutors have separately charged Taele with possession of an unregistered short-barrelled rifle, an offence carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. While the Secret Service and the FBI continue to investigate Taele’s motives, officials from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that there is currently no evidence of a direct, ongoing threat to the local community. President Trump proceeded with his planned visit to California, landing at the golf course via helicopter to host the Republican fundraising event.

The taxi driver who transported him also reportedly told investigators that Mir Raza seemed relaxed and was listening to music during the journey. The family has appealed to senior authorities for a transparent and impartial investigation. The investigation has made further progress with the recovery of another CCTV recording showing Mir Raza’s movements before his death. The footage reportedly captures him taking his mobile phone out of his pocket and throwing it away. Investigators are conducting forensic and technical analysis of the video to determine its significance. Police said the preliminary medical examination found that Mir Raza died from a gunshot wound to the chest. However, the firearm used in the incident and the spent bullet casing have not yet been recovered, leaving investigators without key physical evidence. As part of the ongoing investigation, police are also looking into Mir Raza’s financial dealings. Initial inquiries suggest he had borrowed money from several individuals. Authorities are preparing a list of those people and are questioning them to determine whether any financial dispute may have contributed to the incident. Investigators have so far included 12 individuals in the inquiry and recorded statements from 15 people connected to the case. Earlier CCTV footage showed Mir Raza leaving his shop in Bahadurabad during the early hours after taking a security guard’s pistol from a drawer. He later returned home, where he left behind his car, smartwatch, house keys and Rs39,000 before booking an online taxi. Further footage showed him traveling alone to Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Investigators believe he switched off his mobile phone near Johar Mor before reaching Block 2, where he was last traced.

Speaking at the Battery Storage Flexibility 2026 Conference, the minister said the government aims to increase the share of clean energy in Pakistan’s electricity mix to 90% by 2035. He said expanding renewable energy and developing battery storage solutions are key to strengthening the country’s energy security and lowering the import bill for conventional fuels. Leghari said the government is promoting the development of a local battery energy storage industry, encouraging domestic engineering, system integration and battery management software. He added that the Ministry of Industries is finalizing a national policy to support local battery manufacturing. The minister announced that the government is also preparing a National Battery Energy Storage Framework, which will include safety standards, grid connection guidelines and investment regulations to support the growth of the sector. According to Leghari, clean energy now accounts for 55% of Pakistan’s total electricity generation, reflecting significant progress in the country’s transition toward sustainable energy sources. He said a National Steering Committee for Battery Energy Storage Systems has already been established, while technical and regulatory working groups have also been formed to guide policy development and implementation. Leghari further revealed that pilot battery energy storage projects have been approved for electricity distribution companies. The data collected from these projects will help shape future regulatory policies and improve the country’s energy planning. The minister said Pakistan has emerged as one of the world’s fastest-growing distributed energy markets and assured investors that the government will provide a clear, transparent and long-term regulatory framework to encourage investment.
