ICC unveils July’s top cricket stars

The International Cricket Council has announced the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month award for July 2026.

West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves, England captain Harry Brook and Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan have been shortlisted for the award.

All three players produced strong performances for their teams during the month. However, they made their mark in different formats and under different circumstances.

Greaves was one of the standout all-rounders in Test cricket. He impressed during West Indies’ series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

The right-handed batter made a major contribution against Sri Lanka. He scored 180 runs in the opening Test.

West Indies eventually won the two-match series 1-0. The second Test ended in a draw.

Greaves then carried his form into the series against Pakistan. The two-Test series ended in a 1-1 draw.

He delivered an excellent performance with the ball in the opening Test. He claimed five wickets for 27 runs in the first innings.

His overall figures for July were equally impressive.

Greaves scored 215 runs in two Tests. He finished with a batting average of 71.66.

He also took eight wickets. His bowling average was an outstanding 10.25.

His ability to contribute in both departments made him a key player for West Indies.

Brook earned his nomination after producing an exceptional performance in the T20I series against India.

The England captain had a difficult ODI campaign. He scored only 31 runs across three matches.

He quickly turned things around in the T20I format.

Brook scored 229 runs in five matches. He averaged an impressive 114.50.

His strike rate was even more remarkable. He scored at 214.01.

His performances helped England and earned him the Player of the Series award.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan is the third player on the shortlist.

The left-handed batter was in excellent form during Bangladesh’s white-ball tour of Zimbabwe.

He finished as the leading run-scorer across the ODI and T20I series.

Tanzid scored 159 runs in three ODIs. He averaged 53.00.

He also maintained a strike rate of 89.83.

His form continued in the T20I series.

Tanzid added another 140 runs in the T20Is. He averaged 70.00 and struck at 127.27.

He finished the entire white-ball tour as the highest run-scorer.

The three nominees have entered the award race with impressive records.

Greaves’ nomination is based on his strong all-round performances in Test cricket.

Brook’s case is built around his remarkable T20I form against India.

Tanzid has been recognised for his consistency across both ODI and T20I cricket.

The final award will recognise the player who made the biggest impact during July.

    Army captain martyred, seven militants killed in Hangu operation A Pakistan Army captain was martyred during an intelligence-based operation in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while security forces killed seven militants, according to the military’s media wing. He continued pursuing the militants during the firefight and lost his life while performing his duty. Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition from the militants’ possession. The military said the killed militants were involved in attacks against security personnel and law enforcement agencies. They were also linked to attacks targeting civilians. A clearance operation was launched after the main engagement. Security personnel searched the surrounding area to ensure that no militants remained there. Three militants killed in Mastung operation In a separate operation in Balochistan, security forces killed three militants in Mastung district. The operation was conducted in the Kambela and Asimabad areas as part of Operation Rad-ul-Fitna-3. Security forces carried out an extensive search and clearance operation across an area of around 68 square kilometres. Three militants were killed during the operation. The bodies of two of the militants were recovered. Four other militants were injured, including a key commander identified as Shaukat Mama, according to security sources. Security personnel also detained 12 suspects for questioning during the operation. Militant hideouts were dismantled during the clearance activity. Security forces also removed flags associated with the militant group from the cleared areas. The latest operations come amid continued security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Both provinces have witnessed a significant number of militant attacks in recent years. Security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations to target militant networks, their hideouts and support structures.

    Four summoned over posts targeting Sharjeel Memon

    KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned four Karachi residents for questioning over alleged defamatory content posted on social media against Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son. The inquiry was launched following a complaint submitted on behalf of Memon. The complaint relates to social media posts concerning the death of Karachi resident Mir Raza Ali. According to the notices issued by the agency, the respondents have been asked to appear at the NCCIA office in Karachi on August 13 at 11:30am. They have also been directed to bring their original identity cards and any documents or material they intend to use in their defence. The four individuals have also been asked to provide relevant digital devices and record their statements before the investigators. The agency warned that failure to appear could lead to further legal action. The development follows a complaint filed by Memon through his legal representatives. He had approached the cybercrime agency over what he described as false and malicious material being circulated online about him and his son. Memon has denied claims linking him to a guest house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar where Mir Raza Ali was allegedly subjected to violence. He also rejected allegations that his son travelled to London shortly after the incident and was later seen with security personnel. The senior minister said the allegations were not supported by facts or evidence. He alleged that the campaign was aimed at damaging his and his son’s reputation for political reasons. His legal counsel has requested that the agency identify those responsible and take action under applicable cybercrime laws. The complaint also seeks registration of a criminal case if sufficient evidence is found. The Mir Raza case has attracted significant public attention. Ali, who had studied at the Institute of Business Administration and owned a food business, was reported missing on July 28. His body was discovered the following day in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The investigation initially considered the possibility of suicide. However, Ali’s family consistently rejected that theory. They maintained that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and murdered. A second post-mortem examination later raised further questions about the circumstances of his death. The examination indicated that Ali had suffered a gunshot wound to the back, which challenged the earlier theory of suicide. The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, called for changes to the investigation team. He also accused authorities of failing to properly pursue key aspects of the case. A new investigation team was assigned to the case on Sunday. Police also added a murder charge to the first information report.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir also performed Umrah during their visit. The Foreign Office said the prime minister’s visit, scheduled from August 6 to 8, would focus on Pakistan-Saudi relations and major regional and international developments. During the visit, Shehbaz is expected to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Discussions are likely to cover bilateral cooperation, regional security and diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
