Hundreds arrested in France as destructive wildfires spread across Europe

European emergency services are battling fierce wildfires triggered by a record-breaking heatwave, with French authorities arresting nearly 500 individuals on suspicion of starting blazes since July 1. France’s interior ministry reported that 474 people, including 183 minors, have been detained, with approximately 70% suspected of intentional arson. In south-west France, a rapid blaze in the Landes region consumed nearly 1,100 hectares of pine forest in under 24 hours, prompting the emergency evacuation of more than 525 residents from the village of Luglon.

The severe weather conditions have caused destruction and displacement across multiple European countries. In Croatia, a gale-driven wildfire swept through the coastal tourist town of Lokva Rogoznica, leaving one person dead, 40 injured, and forcing 1,200 people to evacuate to emergency shelters. In western Germany, over 2,000 residents fled the village of Gey as a forest fire advanced, while emergency crews faced additional hazards from detonating Second World War ammunition buried in the terrain.

Elsewhere on the continent, military personnel in north-east Spain evacuated the historical remains of three 11th-century kings from the San Juan de la Peña monastery as flames threatened the site. In northern Greece, a fleet of small boats rescued approximately 500 holidaymakers stranded on beaches along the Halkidiki peninsula after a two-mile fire front threatened local resorts. Firefighters in the UK also faced severe conditions, as wildfires across the West Midlands destroyed several residential properties.

The subject has now gained renewed attention following a prediction made by Lala Rukh. The astrologer recently shared a series of predictions in which she reportedly claimed that Rajab Butt could have a future connection with the Sistrology family. Her comments quickly caught the attention of social media users because of the unexpected nature of the prediction. Sistrology is a well-known YouTube family made up of sisters who have built a strong following through their lifestyle and family-oriented vlogs. According to Lala Rukh’s latest prediction, there could be a union between the Rajab Butt family and the Sistrology family. Many appeared surprised by the possibility, while others questioned whether the astrologer’s prediction would eventually prove accurate. Nevertheless, the statement has once again placed Rajab’s personal life in the spotlight and generated considerable discussion across social media. As speculation continues, fans will likely be watching closely for any response from Rajab, Emaan or the Sistrology family. Trial begins in Tupac Shakur murder case after 30 years

The long-running investigation into the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur has reached a major stage, with the trial of former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis beginning in Las Vegas. Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday in Clark County, Nevada. Davis, 63, faces one charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors accuse Davis of playing a leading role in the drive-by shooting that killed Shakur nearly three decades ago. Shakur was 25 when he was shot near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996. He was riding in a car with Marion “Suge” Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records. The shooting became one of the most famous unsolved cases in music history. It also became closely linked to the violent rivalry between East Coast and West Coast rap artists during the 1990s. According to authorities, the incident followed a fight at the MGM Grand casino. The confrontation allegedly involved Shakur and members of his entourage and a man connected to Davis. Investigators believe the shooting was carried out as an act of retaliation. Police have described Davis as a key figure in the alleged plan. Authorities say he helped obtain the weapon and was travelling in a white Cadillac with three other men when the shooting occurred. The Cadillac reportedly followed the vehicle carrying Shakur and Knight. Gunfire was exchanged when the two cars came close to each other. Shakur was struck four times. He was taken to hospital but died six days later from his injuries. Knight, who was driving the vehicle, suffered a minor injury after a bullet fragment grazed his head. The investigation remained unresolved for almost 30 years. Authorities say the case gained new momentum after Davis made a series of public statements about the shooting. His comments reportedly included details about his presence in the Cadillac and his alleged role in obtaining the weapon. Davis also discussed the incident in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend”. According to police, Davis said he was sitting in the front passenger seat and passed the firearm to one of the men in the back of the vehicle. However, the identity of the person who actually fired the shots remains a central issue in the case. The other three men who were reportedly inside the Cadillac have since died. Under Nevada law, a person can face a murder charge for participating in a killing even if they did not personally fire the weapon. The trial is being heard by Judge Carli Kierny at a courthouse in downtown Las Vegas. Proceedings could continue for as long as six weeks. One potential witness is Knight, who was with Shakur on the night of the shooting. Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in an unrelated voluntary manslaughter case. The prosecution’s case is expected to examine the events leading up to the shooting and Davis’s alleged role in the plot. The case has remained a major subject of public interest because of Shakur’s influence on hip-hop. His death occurred during a period of intense rivalry between artists and record labels associated with the East and West coasts of the United States. The killing was followed by the death of another major rapper, Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G., who was shot dead in Los Angeles in March 1997. Wallace’s murder also remains officially unsolved. For years, theories have linked the two killings, with speculation that Wallace’s death was connected to the violence surrounding Shakur’s murder. Davis’s trial now offers prosecutors an opportunity to present their evidence in court after decades of uncertainty surrounding Shakur’s death.

Israel says Hezbollah tunnel network destroyed in southern Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces had destroyed what they described as a major Hezbollah tunnel network in southern Lebanon. According to a joint statement released on Friday, the underground tunnels in the Beaufort area were considered an important part of Hezbollah’s alleged plan to enter communities in northern Israel’s Galilee region. The Israeli government said the military used around 700 tons of explosives to demolish the tunnel system. Officials described the operation as part of Israel’s continuing efforts to eliminate Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in southern Lebanon. They claimed the action was necessary after accusing Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement that had been reached between the two sides. Before the Israeli announcement, Lebanese media reported a series of powerful explosions across several locations in southern Lebanon. Blasts were heard in the town of Hadatha, around Deir Mimas near Beaufort Castle and in the area between Arnoun and Yahmar. Residents said the explosions echoed across nearby districts and caused widespread concern during the night. The military operation comes only weeks after Lebanon and Israel signed a United States backed framework agreement on June 26 aimed at reducing tensions along the border. The deal outlined a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory while the Lebanese army would expand its presence in the south and armed groups would be disarmed. Although Hezbollah was not named directly, the agreement was widely understood to include the group. As part of the first phase of the agreement, the Lebanese army began deploying forces in the town of Zawtar al Gharbiyeh on July 21 after Israeli troops pulled back from the area. The town was selected as one of the first locations for implementing the security arrangements outlined in the agreement. Despite the deal, tensions remain high. Israel continues to maintain a military presence in parts of southern Lebanon. Some of these areas have been occupied for decades while others have been under Israeli control since the conflict that took place during 2023 and 2024. Reports also indicate that Israeli forces recently advanced more than 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory during their latest operations. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, Israeli attacks carried out since March 2 have killed 4,333 people and injured more than 12,200 others. The figures reflect the heavy human cost of the ongoing conflict, which has continued despite diplomatic efforts to restore stability along the border. Lebanon’s National News Agency also reported that large explosions shook the southern regions of Yohmor al Chqif, Arnoun and Kfar Tebnit overnight. The blasts were so powerful that shockwaves were felt in towns far from the affected areas. In the Marjayoun district, explosions near Beaufort Castle reportedly shattered windows and damaged nearby homes in Qlayaa. Residents described strong vibrations and the smell of gunpowder spreading through the area after the blasts. The agency further reported that Israeli forces carried out heavy machine gun fire near al Mansouri and Biyout al Sayyad in the Tyre district while artillery shells struck al Mansouri. Tank movements were also reported near Baraachit hill heading towards Aainata in the Bint Jbeil district as military activity continued across southern Lebanon.

Lab report finds 176 substandard samples of oil, g…

ISLAMABAD: A laboratory assessment has found that 176 out of 491 samples of packaged edible oil, ghee and milk failed to meet national quality standards. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Planning, a total of 491 samples of packaged cooking oil, ghee and milk products were tested. Of these, 315 samples were found to comply with national standards, while 176 were declared substandard. The ministry said approximately 36% of the tested samples failed to meet the required quality standards. The assessment showed significant variations across different products. Of the 204 samples of vanaspati ghee tested, 98 were found to be below the required standards. Similarly, 40 out of 146 samples of blended cooking oil failed the quality assessment, while 26 of 104 samples of packaged liquid milk were declared substandard. The report also found quality concerns in milk powder, refined palm oil and refined canola oil. Eight of the 18 milk powder samples failed to meet national standards, while three of four refined palm oil samples were found to be substandard. In the case of refined canola oil, one out of 13 tested samples did not meet the required standards. The findings have highlighted concerns over the quality of commonly consumed food products and the need for stronger monitoring and enforcement to ensure that packaged edible oils, ghee and dairy products available in the market comply with national quality requirements.

Zendaya praises Tom Holland’s real-life dedication to Spider-Man

Zendaya has opened up about what she admires most in Tom Holland’s take on Spider-Man, pointing to how he handles the role once the cameras stop rolling. Speaking alongside Holland in a joint sit-down with Rotten Tomatoes, the actress, who plays his on-screen love interest MJ, said her favourite part of his portrayal has nothing to do with action scenes or costumes. Instead, she pointed to how seriously he takes the character in everyday life, especially around fans who see him as more than just an actor. She explained that countless people, particularly kids, form a deep bond with Peter Parker, and Holland has managed to carry that responsibility with genuine grace. According to Zendaya, he never loses sight of what the role means to young admirers who look up to him. She went further, telling Holland directly that stepping into the suit comes with real weight because, for those children, he does not just play Spider-Man, he becomes him in their eyes. Zendaya said watching how he embraces that role beyond the screen is something she genuinely admires about her husband. The comments come shortly after Holland reflected on the pressure of stepping back into Peter Parker’s shoes for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a film that went on to earn a massive $927 million at the global box office. Talking to Kino TV, Holland admitted that the success of his earlier Spider-Man outings and his run in the Avengers franchise made him fully grasp how much the character meant to audiences worldwide. He revealed that he felt more nervous returning to set this time around than ever before. Despite those nerves, Holland said the experience turned out to be even more fulfilling, largely because of the pressure he put on himself to get it right. He credited that anxiety with pushing him to deliver a performance that matched the scale of what fans expected from him. Between Zendaya’s praise and Holland’s own reflections, it is clear the actor’s connection to Spider-Man runs far deeper than just another movie role for him.
