Bruce Springsteen biographer Dave Marsh dies at 76

Dave Marsh, the renowned American rock critic, author, and radio personality best known for his work documenting Bruce Springsteen’s career, has died at the age of 76. Marsh passed away late Friday at his home in Connecticut, with news of his death emerging on Saturday, August 15.

His passing was confirmed by Jim Rotolo, the host of the Springsteen-focused SiriusXM program The Wild and The Innocent. Rotolo shared the news on the program’s official Facebook page, describing Marsh as both a longtime friend and an important figure in the world of music journalism.

Marsh dedicated much of his career to chronicling the development of rock music and the artists who shaped the genre. He wrote numerous books throughout his career, producing a body of work that covered some of the biggest names and most important developments in popular music.

He was especially recognized for his extensive writing about Bruce Springsteen. His 1979 book Born to Run examined Springsteen’s early career and became an important work for fans seeking a deeper understanding of the singer-songwriter’s rise to prominence. Marsh went on to write several other books connected to Springsteen, cementing his reputation as one of the artist’s most notable biographers.

Marsh entered music journalism in 1969 when he began working with Creem magazine. His sharp criticism and detailed knowledge of rock music quickly established him as a respected voice within the industry. During the 1970s and early 1980s, he also worked with Rolling Stone, where he contributed reviews and helped shape the publication’s influential approach to music criticism.

His impact was not limited to journalism. Marsh was widely associated with the early use of the phrase “punk rock,” which he used while writing about Question Mark & the Mysterians in 1971. The term would later become closely associated with one of the most influential movements in modern music.

As his career developed, Marsh expanded into radio broadcasting. He was involved in the creation of E Street Radio, a SiriusXM channel dedicated to Springsteen and his music. He also hosted Kick Out the Jams on SiriusXM for 19 years, giving listeners a platform to explore rock music and its history.

Beyond his work as a critic and broadcaster, Marsh also served as a committee member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His involvement reflected his broader influence and knowledge of rock music.

Marsh had increasingly stepped away from public life in his later years. He left broadcasting in 2022 following a prolonged period of declining health. His official cause of death has not been publicly revealed.

News of his death has led to an outpouring of appreciation from those who admired his work and influence. His career spanned more than five decades, during which he documented major artists, movements, and moments in rock history.

For Bruce Springsteen fans in particular, Marsh’s work remains closely connected to the story of one of America’s most celebrated musicians. Through his books, criticism, and broadcasting, he helped preserve important chapters of rock history for future generations.

Marsh’s legacy will live on through his extensive writing and the many listeners and readers influenced by his work. His contribution to music journalism leaves him remembered as a distinctive and influential voice in American rock criticism.

Government will remain responsible for Imran’s h…

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said the government will continue to take responsibility for the health and medical care of PTI founder Imran Khan. Speaking to the media, the minister said the government was already providing the former prime minister with the best available healthcare facilities. He said these facilities were provided without the PTI having to make any formal appeal. Chaudhry said the government was also praying for Imran Khan’s good health. He stressed that the state would continue to fulfil its responsibility regarding his medical treatment. The minister said the government would implement the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Imran Khan in letter and spirit. The Supreme Court has ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment. Chaudhry also criticised what he described as the PTI’s changing position on the judiciary. He said it was encouraging to see PTI members praising the courts. However, he questioned the party’s approach to judicial decisions. He said the judiciary was praised when verdicts went in the PTI’s favour, but faced criticism when decisions went against the party. He maintained that Pakistan’s judiciary was independent and was delivering decisions on merit. The federal minister said the courts remained the legal route for obtaining relief and securing release. He noted that people had received relief through judicial decisions in the past. According to Chaudhry, the prime minister could not use executive authority to act against a court order. He said the government was bound to respect and implement judicial decisions. The minister also spoke about ongoing political contacts with the opposition. He said the opposition leaders involved in the process were not members of the PTI. However, they had the confidence of Imran Khan, according to him. Chaudhry said the government had made its position clear. The opposition leadership taking part in talks should have the confidence of the PTI leadership. He said the government did not want a situation in which it was engaged in negotiations while PTI leaders continued issuing statements against the process. The minister welcomed the PTI parliamentary party’s expression of confidence in the opposition leadership involved in the talks. He further said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was expected to respond to the opposition leader’s letter within one or two days. After the response is sent, the venue for a joint meeting will be decided, he added.

Sardar Yousaf renews call for creation of Hazara p…

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf has reiterated his demand for the creation of a separate Hazara province, saying there is broad political consensus on the issue and that administrative reforms are essential to improve governance and public service delivery. Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad alongside Senator Talha Mahmood, the minister said the movement for Hazara province began in 2010 and has remained a longstanding demand of the region’s people. He said seven young people sacrificed their lives during the movement, adding that their contributions would always be remembered. According to the minister, people from different political parties have consistently supported the establishment of Hazara as a separate province. Sardar Yousaf noted that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed constitutional resolutions in support of Hazara province on three occasions—in 2014, 2018, and 2020. He added that bills seeking the creation of the new province have also been introduced in both the National Assembly and the Senate and have been referred to the relevant standing committees on law and justice. The minister said the creation of new administrative units has become a necessity in view of Pakistan’s growing population, which now exceeds 250 million. He argued that additional provinces would improve governance, revenue collection, and the implementation of development projects. He stressed that the demand for Hazara province is not linked to any single political party but represents a united movement supported by people from all walks of life, including political leaders, lawyers, journalists, students, traders, and religious scholars. Sardar Yousaf said several national political leaders have publicly expressed support for the Hazara province during visits to the region and public gatherings. He maintained that smaller administrative units would bring government services closer to the people, help address public issues more effectively, and strengthen the federation. He also paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the Hazara province movement, noting that Hazara Martyrs’ Day is observed every year on April 12 in their memory.

Yash reveals Radhika’s reaction to Toxic romance

Indian actor Yash has opened up about his wife Radhika Pandit’s reaction to his intimate scenes with actress Kiara Advani in the upcoming action thriller Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups. During an appearance on Rajat Sharma’s popular talk show Aap Ki Adalat, Yash acknowledged that the scenes could make his wife uncomfortable. However, the actor said both he and Radhika understand that such moments are part of an actor’s professional responsibilities when they serve the story. Yash, whose real name is Naveen Kumar, explained that he also had to move beyond his own comfort zone while working on the film. According to him, certain scenes may not be easy for actors personally, but they can become necessary when they are important to the character and the overall narrative. The K.G.F. star said he believes every partner could naturally feel uncomfortable seeing their spouse perform intimate scenes with another actor. However, he stressed that acting requires performers to separate their personal relationships from the characters they portray on screen. Yash also pointed out that Radhika is an actress herself and therefore understands the demands and challenges of the profession. He said she may not necessarily be pleased with the scenes, but she trusts him and understands that he is performing as an actor rather than appearing as her husband in those moments. The actor further revealed that Toxic has been designed with younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, in mind. He suggested that the film explores generational differences and issues relevant to young people while presenting them through an action-driven story. Yash and Radhika’s relationship dates back to their time working together on the television show Nanda Gokula in 2007. Their professional association eventually developed into a personal relationship. They became engaged in 2016 and married later that year. The couple have two children, daughter Ayra and son Yatharv. Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups features Yash in a dual role, portraying both a father and his son. Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi are also part of the cast. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the highly anticipated pan-India action thriller is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26, 2026.

Officers arriving at the scene discovered three people dead and a fourth victim seriously wounded. The injured person was taken to hospital and remained in critical condition, police said. Iran threatens action over US economic support

Iran’s National Security Council chief Mohsen Rezaei has warned that the interests of countries assisting the United States in its economic war against Iran could be targeted. In an interview, Major General Mohsen Rezaei urged Iran’s neighbouring countries not to cooperate with Washington against Tehran. He warned that Iran could consider them hostile if they joined the US economic campaign. Rezaei said Iran did not want to escalate the conflict. However, he warned that any neighbouring country supporting the economic war could face attacks on its interests. He also threatened to prevent even a single drop of oil from passing through the Persian Gulf or the Strait of Hormuz. He said other routes used to import oil through the Persian Gulf could also be targeted. Rezaei further warned that locations linked to Iranian opposition groups could also come under attack if the United States continued meeting groups opposed to the Iranian government. According to Rezaei, the US had expected to end the conflict within a few days and take control of Iran’s oil and gas resources. He claimed that around 1,200 oil tankers had become unusable during the conflict, affecting 15 per cent of the global fleet. He said Tehran should reconsider its approach to the conflict and its diplomatic engagement with the international community. Rezaei accused Washington of failing to honour its commitments. Rezaei said Iran was no longer the same country it was before the conflict. He described new military appointments by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei as a sign that Iran was preparing for war. He added that the perception of the United States among Iranian youth had also changed. According to him, many young Iranians no longer view America as a country committed to peace. Rezaei accused Washington of betraying negotiations, diplomacy and agreements it had signed. He also warned that US policies could encourage more countries to seek nuclear weapons. He criticised US President Donald Trump and claimed that the world had begun viewing Iran differently. Rezaei said Iran would change its approach to warfare and use the lessons learned from the current conflict in any future war. Asked about the Makkah agreement involving Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, Rezaei said it indicated that the United States had informed those countries of its intention to leave the region. On former Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, Rezaei said those who believed his return would turn Iran into a “paradise” should reconsider their view. He claimed that bringing Pahlavi back to power could instead lead to Iran being divided into five parts.
