Moroccan migrants return home after failed bid to reach Europe

Thousands of Moroccan migrants who entered Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta this week have begun returning home after their hopes of reaching mainland Europe faded. Many said they were driven back by hunger, exhaustion and difficult living conditions, while others claimed they faced hostility after arriving in the Spanish territory.

Several returnees said they had decided to cross into Ceuta after watching viral social media videos and receiving messages from friends claiming the heavily guarded border could be breached. Believing they had a chance to build a better future in Europe, many left their jobs and travelled to the border.

However, after reaching Ceuta, migrants discovered there was no clear route to mainland Spain. Many said they became stranded in the enclave with limited access to food, water and shelter.

One migrant said he survived for three days by drinking only water because he could not afford food. He described the cost of basic meals as extremely high and said life in Ceuta was far more difficult than he had expected.

Returning migrants also claimed that many supermarkets and shops remained closed, making it difficult to buy essential supplies. Some spent days in wet clothes after swimming across the border and struggled to find safe places to rest.

Several migrants alleged they were forced to leave certain neighbourhoods by local residents, although those claims could not be independently verified. Spanish authorities confirmed that two people suffered minor injuries in separate knife attacks and said one suspect had been arrested. Officials added that no deaths linked to the incidents had been reported.

The large influx also affected businesses on both sides of the border. In the Moroccan border city of Fnideq, hotels and restaurants faced staff shortages after several workers crossed into Ceuta. Some employers have already begun looking for replacement workers as many employees remain missing.

Meanwhile, daily life in Ceuta has gradually started returning to normal. Cafes have reopened in parts of the city, while police continue to maintain a strong security presence. Many businesses, however, remain closed as authorities monitor the situation.

Aid workers said migrant reception facilities are operating at full capacity, with thousands of people still believed to be inside the enclave awaiting assistance or decisions on their future.

Local residents expressed mixed emotions over the crisis. While many admitted the sudden arrival of thousands of migrants created fear and uncertainty, others said they sympathised with the young people, arguing they had been misled by false hopes of an easier route into Europe.

Grammys review Asian Pop category after BTS withdrawal

The Recording Academy is reconsidering its newly introduced Asian Pop category after K-pop superstars BTS announced that they would not submit music for the 2027 Grammy Awards. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said the organisation had held discussions with artists and other stakeholders following the group’s decision. He acknowledged that some musicians believe the new category does not adequately represent the music and artists it was created to recognise. Mason said the Academy’s goal is to ensure that musicians from different communities feel properly represented and heard. He added that feedback from artists in the Asian music scene had prompted the organisation to reassess the category. The review comes shortly after BTS confirmed that the group would not enter music for next year’s Grammy ceremony. BTS leader RM announced the decision last month, saying the group wanted music to be appreciated without being divided according to language or geographical region. The band has a huge international following and has played a major role in bringing K-pop to audiences around the world. Its decision not to participate in the upcoming Grammy process has therefore drawn considerable attention within the global music industry. The Recording Academy has not yet announced what changes could be made to the Asian Pop category. However, Mason indicated that the organisation’s management and board are committed to responding to concerns raised by musicians. The new category was intended to broaden recognition of Asian music within the Grammys and provide artists with a dedicated platform. The Academy’s latest review could lead to changes in how the category is structured or which styles and artists it covers. BTS’ withdrawal has also renewed discussion about how major international music awards classify artists and genres in an increasingly global music industry.

Zardari leaves Lahore quietly, Bilawal’s whereab…

LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari has left Lahore after spending around two days in the city without meeting the local leadership of his Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), adding to speculation surrounding the political situation within the party. Zardari departed for Islamabad on Sunday after a low-profile visit during which he reportedly held no formal meetings with PPP leaders in Lahore. His stay has drawn particular attention amid unconfirmed reports that PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari may have left Pakistan. A senior party figure close to the leadership said the president’s visit was not intended for meetings with the party’s local leadership. According to the source, Zardari had come to Lahore to deal with sensitive and urgent matters away from public attention. The same source acknowledged hearing reports about Bilawal’s possible departure but said he could neither confirm nor reject them. During his stay, Zardari was reported to have held only one known meeting, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was accompanied by businessman Gohar Ejaz. The president’s arrival also appeared to catch several PPP leaders off guard, with party members saying they had not been informed beforehand. Some PPP leaders reportedly sought meetings with Zardari but were unable to secure appointments. The president’s visit comes at a politically sensitive time for the PPP, which has recently taken a strong position against the creation of new administrative units and criticised the PML-N government over what it describes as excessive reliance on the establishment. Zardari has also recently withheld his assent to the elevation of judges, adding another layer to the growing political tensions. Attempts were made to contact PPP leaders Nadeem Afzal Chan and Shazia Marri for clarification about the reports concerning Bilawal, but no response was received before the report was filed. Meanwhile, PPP Kashmir leader Chaudhary Riaz said Bilawal had left the Kashmir Valley but added that he did not know where the party chairman was currently located.

In a candid interview with British Vogue, the Oscar-winning actress reflected on the end of her nearly 20-year marriage and described the experience as a major adjustment. Kidman said there was a time when she felt “very fearful and deeply vulnerable” as she faced an unfamiliar chapter of her life. (RTE) The actress explained that before her split from Urban, she had a clear idea of what her life would look like. Now, that certainty has disappeared. “I had a very different view of what my life was going to be,” Kidman said, according to reports from the interview. She added that her future currently feels “completely unknown,” leaving her to adjust to circumstances she never expected. (People.com) Kidman and Urban married in June 2006 after meeting the previous year. During their 19-year marriage, they welcomed two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret. Their relationship became one of Hollywood and country music’s best-known celebrity marriages. However, Kidman filed for divorce in Nashville on September 30, 2025, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple’s divorce was finalized on January 6, 2026. Their settlement included a parenting plan for their daughters, while both agreed to waive spousal and child support. (People.com) For Kidman, starting over has meant accepting that life does not always follow the plan a person creates. Rather than trying to predict every step ahead, she appears to be learning to trust herself and remain open to whatever comes next. The actress also described herself as someone who tends to lead with her feelings. That emotional approach has helped her deal with difficult moments and continue moving forward instead of becoming consumed by uncertainty. (InStyle) Despite the pain surrounding the end of her marriage, Kidman is not allowing the experience to define the rest of her life. She continues to focus on her family and her successful acting career, with several projects keeping her busy. Her upcoming work includes Practical Magic 2, alongside Sandra Bullock, as well as other film and television projects. (People.com) Kidman’s latest comments offer a rare look at the woman behind the glamorous Hollywood image. After nearly two decades of marriage, she is facing a future she never expected—but she is choosing to meet it with honesty, resilience and an openness to new possibilities. For someone who once felt certain about where life was heading, Kidman now appears ready to embrace the uncertainty rather than fear it.

Rabya Kulsoom demands action over leaked drama footage

KARACHI: Pakistani actor Rabya Kulsoom has called for stronger measures against the unauthorised release of footage from television drama sets, saying such leaks should carry legal consequences. The actor raised the issue after unreleased footage from the popular drama Zanjeerain appeared online. The clip reportedly features actors Sajal Ali and Danyal Zafar in a scene that had not yet been broadcast. Kulsoom stressed that actors and production teams should have control over how material recorded on a drama set is used or shared. She argued that private conversations, behind-the-scenes moments and scenes connected to future storylines should not be circulated without consent. In a social media post, the actor urged production houses and television channels to introduce stricter rules to prevent unauthorised recordings from reaching the public. She said repeated leaks could create problems for actors, directors, writers and other members of a production team. According to her, sharing sensitive set material without permission can affect both the privacy of those involved and the impact of an upcoming storyline. Actor Usman Javed, who is also part of Zanjeerain, criticised the leak and questioned how the footage was obtained. He called on those responsible to stop sharing unauthorised material, saying such actions undermine the efforts of the entire cast and crew. The incident has also drawn reactions from viewers, with several fans supporting calls for greater protection of unreleased drama content and actors’ privacy. The leak comes as Zanjeerain approaches its conclusion. The drama has so far aired 29 episodes, with eight episodes remaining before the finale. With several major developments still expected in the remaining episodes, the unauthorised release of footage has raised concerns that future plot points could be revealed before their scheduled broadcast.

Trial begins in Tupac Shakur murder case after 30 years

The long-running investigation into the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur has reached a major stage, with the trial of former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis beginning in Las Vegas. Jury selection is scheduled to start Monday in Clark County, Nevada. Davis, 63, faces one charge of murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors accuse Davis of playing a leading role in the drive-by shooting that killed Shakur nearly three decades ago. Shakur was 25 when he was shot near the Las Vegas Strip on September 7, 1996. He was riding in a car with Marion “Suge” Knight, the co-founder of Death Row Records. The shooting became one of the most famous unsolved cases in music history. It also became closely linked to the violent rivalry between East Coast and West Coast rap artists during the 1990s. According to authorities, the incident followed a fight at the MGM Grand casino. The confrontation allegedly involved Shakur and members of his entourage and a man connected to Davis. Investigators believe the shooting was carried out as an act of retaliation. Police have described Davis as a key figure in the alleged plan. Authorities say he helped obtain the weapon and was travelling in a white Cadillac with three other men when the shooting occurred. The Cadillac reportedly followed the vehicle carrying Shakur and Knight. Gunfire was exchanged when the two cars came close to each other. Shakur was struck four times. He was taken to hospital but died six days later from his injuries. Knight, who was driving the vehicle, suffered a minor injury after a bullet fragment grazed his head. The investigation remained unresolved for almost 30 years. Authorities say the case gained new momentum after Davis made a series of public statements about the shooting. His comments reportedly included details about his presence in the Cadillac and his alleged role in obtaining the weapon. Davis also discussed the incident in his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend”. According to police, Davis said he was sitting in the front passenger seat and passed the firearm to one of the men in the back of the vehicle. However, the identity of the person who actually fired the shots remains a central issue in the case. The other three men who were reportedly inside the Cadillac have since died. Under Nevada law, a person can face a murder charge for participating in a killing even if they did not personally fire the weapon. The trial is being heard by Judge Carli Kierny at a courthouse in downtown Las Vegas. Proceedings could continue for as long as six weeks. One potential witness is Knight, who was with Shakur on the night of the shooting. Knight is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in an unrelated voluntary manslaughter case. The prosecution’s case is expected to examine the events leading up to the shooting and Davis’s alleged role in the plot. The case has remained a major subject of public interest because of Shakur’s influence on hip-hop. His death occurred during a period of intense rivalry between artists and record labels associated with the East and West coasts of the United States. The killing was followed by the death of another major rapper, Christopher Wallace, better known as The Notorious B.I.G., who was shot dead in Los Angeles in March 1997. Wallace’s murder also remains officially unsolved. For years, theories have linked the two killings, with speculation that Wallace’s death was connected to the violence surrounding Shakur’s murder. Davis’s trial now offers prosecutors an opportunity to present their evidence in court after decades of uncertainty surrounding Shakur’s death.

Ronaldo, Georgina plan grand wedding after intimat…

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and his longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez are planning a lavish wedding celebration after quietly getting married in an intimate ceremony at their home in Portugal. The couple reportedly tied the knot on August 11, marking the 10th anniversary of the day they first met at a store in Madrid in 2016. Their private ceremony was attended only by their children, reflecting their decision to keep the occasion away from the public spotlight. Georgina recently opened up about the marriage in an interview with British fashion magazine Vogue, explaining that their demanding schedules led them to choose a simple ceremony at home. She revealed that the couple intends to organise a much larger celebration in the future, allowing their relatives and close friends to share the special occasion with them. Georgina also recalled that she once dreamed of a fairytale wedding featuring a grand palace, a royal carriage, a long wedding dress and a diamond-studded crown. However, she said her priorities have changed with time, and she now values a peaceful and private celebration with Ronaldo and their children. Following their wedding, Ronaldo and Georgina reportedly travelled for about an hour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, where they paid their respects. The couple’s low-key wedding has attracted widespread attention, while their plans for a larger celebration are expected to generate further excitement among fans around the world. Moreover, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez have given fans an intimate glimpse into their long-awaited wedding, with the first photograph from their private ceremony quickly attracting attention online. The Portuguese football superstar and his longtime partner reportedly tied the knot on Aug 11 in a civil ceremony at their home in Cascais, Portugal. Rather than organising a lavish celebrity wedding, the couple chose a quiet family gathering surrounded by their five children and a small circle of loved ones. The setting was reportedly their living room, adding an unusually personal touch to an event that could easily have become one of the world’s most extravagant celebrity weddings. A meaningful Gucci choice Ronaldo and Georgina also made a fashion statement with their wedding outfits, both choosing the luxury Italian brand Gucci. Georgina opted for an elegant white silk skirt suit instead of a traditional bridal gown, while Ronaldo wore a light khaki-coloured suit. Their children were dressed in soft, coordinated shades, giving the family portrait a simple yet polished appearance. The Gucci connection carries special meaning for the couple. Ronaldo and Georgina first met in 2016 at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina was working as a sales assistant. What began as an encounter at a fashion store eventually developed into one of the most closely followed relationships in international sport and entertainment. Why the couple chose simplicity Despite their glamorous lifestyle, Georgina has previously spoken about wanting a more personal family celebration rather than an elaborate wedding. She explained that as a child she had imagined a grand wedding involving a palace, a large procession and a long bridal dress. Her priorities changed over time, however, and she came to value a quiet celebration with her partner and children more than luxury or spectacle. The intimate ceremony appears to have reflected that wish, keeping the focus firmly on family. Is Ronaldo nearing retirement? The wedding news also coincides with renewed attention surrounding Ronaldo’s football future. At 41, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has indicated that the 2026-27 season could potentially be the final campaign of his remarkable career. Ronaldo has said he wants to leave football with a strong legacy, although he has not formally announced his retirement.
