LAHORE: Police have made significant progress in the investigation into the murder of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket-holder Abdullah Tahir, who was shot dead in Lahore on July 29. Investigators say fresh evidence has led to changes in the direction of the probe, while efforts are underway to arrest all those allegedly involved in the killing.

According to police officials, the investigation has been reassigned after the suspected shooters were identified during the inquiry. The case was initially being handled by the Investigation Wing of Ghalib Market Police Station. However, investigators decided to revise the probe after obtaining new information about the suspects and their alleged roles in the incident.

Police said the alleged main facilitator, Arsalan Jatt, played a key role in the planning and execution of the attack. Investigators claim he transported the suspected shooters from Gujranwala to Lahore in a vehicle before the murder took place. Authorities believe this journey was part of a pre-planned operation carried out before the attack on Abdullah Tahir.

Officials further stated that the prime suspect accused of masterminding the murder, identified as Gogi Butt, is currently outside Pakistan. Police said legal proceedings have been initiated to secure his return to the country. Authorities plan to seek the issuance of an international Red Notice to facilitate his arrest and extradition through the relevant international law enforcement agencies.

Investigators are also working to trace the remaining suspects believed to have participated in the crime. Police teams are analysing evidence, questioning witnesses and reviewing available records to establish the complete sequence of events and identify everyone involved in the planning and execution of the attack.

Police officials said the investigation is continuing on multiple fronts and further arrests are expected as more evidence is collected. Authorities have expressed confidence that all individuals responsible for the murder will be brought before the courts.

He expressed these views while inaugurating the Urs Mubarak of Hazrat Pir Makki Sharif (RA) and participating in the traditional chadar poshi ceremony. Secretary/Chief Administrator Auqaf Punjab Dr. Ehsan Bhutta, Director General Religious Affairs Hafiz Anees ur Rehman, Director Administration Shakir Sandhu, officers of the Auqaf Department, and a large number of devotees and followers were also present. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ehsan Bhutta said that Hazrat Pir Makki Sharif (RA), whose real name was Hazrat Sheikh Syed Ali Qadri (RA), also known as Sheikh Syed Ali Makki, is regarded among the prominent and earliest renowned Sufi saints associated with Lahore. He said that the title “Makki” reflects his traditional association with Makkah Mukarramah, from where he is believed to have travelled to Lahore. His association is traced to the Ghaznavid era, around the 11th century CE/5th century AH. Hazrat Pir Makki Sharif (RA) devoted his life to the propagation of Islamic teachings, purification of the soul, social reform and service to humanity, and his spiritual and moral legacy continues to guide and inspire devotees in Lahore and across Pakistan. Dr. Ehsan Bhutta further emphasized that the teachings of Hazrat Pir Makki Sharif (RA) underscore a strong relationship with Allah Almighty, righteousness, humility and compassion for His creation, and that their practical implementation can help build a peaceful, morally upright and exemplary society. He said that the Khanqahs and shrines of the saints are an integral part of Pakistan’s rich religious and spiritual heritage, serving as centres for the dissemination of peace, love, tolerance, brotherhood and service to humanity. He stressed that transmitting the noble teachings of Hazrat Pir Makki Sharif (RA) to the younger generation is a collective responsibility so that youth remain connected with their spiritual heritage and incorporate its positive and reformative message into their daily lives. He added that the Government of Punjab, in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is taking effective measures to provide devotees visiting the shrines of saints with the best possible facilities, cleanliness, security and other essential arrangements. On the occasion, a 50-pound cake was cut, while a large-scale Langar distribution was also formally inaugurated for devotees and visitors. The ceremony concluded with special prayers for the security, peace, prosperity and stability of Pakistan, the safety of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, and the unity, solidarity and progress of the Muslim Ummah.

He has previously hinted that the new instalment will lean into an even darker tone and direction. Speaking to Variety, Muschietti described the atmosphere fans should expect from the Depression-era setting. He explained that hardship and desperation would run through the characters, as everyone struggles to survive their circumstances, often resorting to increasingly extreme choices. He added that the show wouldn’t shy away from the harsher social and cultural realities of the period. According to Muschietti, those darker historical elements will sit at the very core of the story, not on its edges. While casting details for the new season have not been revealed yet, Brad Caleb Kane has been confirmed as solo showrunner for season two. His role marks a shift in creative leadership as the series moves forward. “It: Welcome to Derry” first premiered last October as a prequel to the film franchise based on Stephen King’s iconic horror novel “It.” The series quickly earned a strong response from both critics and audiences.     US-Iran strikes pause as diplomacy gains ground

    The United States and Iran have temporarily halted their latest military strikes, creating a fresh opportunity for diplomatic efforts to end the growing conflict. The pause followed nearly two weeks of repeated US airstrikes and Iranian retaliatory attacks. He indicated that Washington wanted negotiations to have a chance before considering further military escalation. Reports from US media also suggested that concerns about the availability of missile-defence systems played a role in the decision. American officials have reportedly been assessing supplies of Patriot interceptors and other defensive weapons amid fears that a prolonged conflict could put additional pressure on US military resources. The pause has also encouraged regional mediation. Pakistan and Qatar have reportedly increased communication between Washington and Tehran as they seek to help both sides reach an understanding. Sources familiar with the diplomatic efforts said a joint proposal calls on the United States and Iran to return to positions held before July 9. The move could create conditions for the resumption of direct or indirect negotiations. Iranian officials confirmed that messages were still being exchanged with Washington through intermediaries. Tehran has also continued discussions with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Despite the diplomatic activity, the conflict remains highly volatile. Fighting has spread beyond direct US-Iran confrontations, affecting regional shipping, military bases and Gulf states. Iranian military officials have warned that the conflict could expand if American strikes restart. At the same time, Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed attacks on Saudi energy facilities following Saudi strikes against Houthi positions. Saudi air defences reportedly intercepted ballistic missiles and a drone over Yanbu. Another incident was reported in the Strait of Hormuz, where an oil tanker was said to have exploded after hitting a naval mine outside an Iranian-designated shipping route. Iranian authorities had not immediately confirmed the incident. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected claims that Tehran was responsible for the latest escalation between Yemen and Saudi Arabia. He also offered Iran’s assistance in facilitating dialogue between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
