The mega-event is expected to welcome approximately 50,000 visitors daily and generate a massive economic lift for the Kingdom’s tourism sector.

Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul announced that the ministry projects the festival will generate about 6 billion baht in economic activity for the current year. Thailand has successfully secured a comprehensive five-year agreement to host the prestigious event, with the total economic impact anticipated to exceed 30 billion baht over the lifespan of the contract. This long-term partnership underscores the government’s strategic push to position the country as a premier global destination for large-scale entertainment and music tourism.

The demand for the festival has been unprecedented, with all 150,000 tickets for the inaugural three-day event selling out almost immediately after sales opened. According to the ministry, the demographic breakdown of the attendees highlights the event’s massive international draw. Approximately 85 percent of the ticket buyers are international visitors, while the remaining 15 percent are domestic attendees. Tourism officials anticipate that the vast majority of these international guests will extend their stays in Thailand beyond the festival dates, providing a significant multiplier effect that will further boost spending across the hospitality, retail, and aviation sectors.

Beyond the direct financial injections, the festival is poised to generate substantial employment opportunities. Authorities estimate that the event will create approximately 4,000 jobs, spanning both the extensive preparation period leading up to the festival and the operational phase of the event itself. This job creation will provide a vital stimulus to the local workforce in the Chon Buri area and the broader Eastern Economic Corridor.

To accommodate the massive influx of attendees and ensure a seamless experience, authorities have implemented comprehensive logistical and safety measures. The operational plan includes enhanced public transport networks, a dedicated fleet of shuttle buses to transport guests to and from the venue, and a large-scale deployment of police officers assigned specifically to the event. Officials emphasized that the meticulous planning and execution of Tomorrowland Thailand are designed to set a new, higher standard for safety management and crowd control at major festivals across the country.

    Police recover Rs17.5 million silver after Muzaffa…

    MUZAFFARGARH: Police have arrested five suspects in connection with a major robbery involving 18 kilograms of silver worth Rs17.5 million. All of the stolen silver has been recovered. Police also seized illegal weapons allegedly used during the robbery. District Police Officer (DPO) Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah shared the details during a press conference at the district police office. According to the DPO, the robbery took place in the jurisdiction of City Muzaffargarh police station. The incident occurred near Darbar Piran Shah in Mahmood Kot, close to Thermal Road. The complainant was travelling by truck from Pishin towards Multan when six armed men allegedly intercepted the vehicle. The suspects took the silver at gunpoint and fled from the scene. Police registered a case against six unidentified suspects based on the complainant’s statement. Investigators then began tracing the vehicle allegedly used in the crime. Police identified the car and found that it was registered in the name of the brother of one of the suspected main perpetrators. This breakthrough helped investigators move closer to the suspects. After the arrest of the key suspect, police traced other people allegedly involved in the robbery. Police teams conducted raids in different areas as the investigation progressed. Five suspects were eventually arrested. During the operation, police recovered the entire 18 kilograms of stolen silver. The recovered silver was valued at Rs17.5 million. Illegal weapons allegedly used in the robbery were also seized from the suspects. DPO Ghazanfar Ali Shah said the case was solved through professional investigation and the use of modern information technology. He praised the police team of City Muzaffargarh for its efforts. The team worked under the supervision of SDPO City Circle Muhammad Zafar Wattoo. The DPO also appreciated the role of the Special Branch Muzaffargarh and Crime Control Department (CCD) officials. He said their assistance was important in tracing the suspects and recovering the stolen property. Police officials said further investigation into the case is continuing. The DPO announced that the police personnel involved in solving the case would receive cash rewards and certificates of appreciation.

The refusal highlights the growing friction between the two long-standing allies as Pakistan struggles to navigate a staggering power-sector circular debt that continues to drag down its broader economy. The unpaid dues owed to 18 Chinese-backed power generation projects established under the CPEC have now increased to approximately Rs 423 billion. The financial bottleneck stems from a combination of structural inefficiencies within Pakistan’s domestic energy distribution network and systemic delays in clearing operational invoices. Under the original 2015 CPEC Energy Framework Agreement, Pakistan was legally obligated to ensure full and timely payments to power producers, backed by a designated revolving fund to cushion investors against domestic liquidity shortfalls. As payment deadlines were repeatedly missed over recent years due to severe foreign exchange constraints, contractual interest penalties accumulated to the tune of Rs 170 billion. While local power suppliers previously accepted debt-restructuring deals and fee write-offs to ease the burden on state coffers, Chinese energy firms have maintained a strict stance, citing global precedent and financial commitments to their own institutional lenders. This refusal creates an immediate impasse for Pakistan’s Ministry of Energy and financial regulators. The federal government had structured a massive Rs 1.225 trillion banking facility intended to retire the country’s broader circular debt stock. However, disbursement terms mandated that power producers accept renegotiated terms or offer discounts on late-payment fees before receiving principal clearances. Because the Chinese IPPs declined to waive the surcharges or offer similar concessions, billions in funds remain locked, leaving power plant operators facing severe liquidity squeezes that threaten regular fuel procurement and plant operation. Total Outstanding Dues: Rs 423 Billion. Requested Surcharge Waiver (Rejected): Rs 170 Billion. Principal Energy Cost Owed: Rs 253+ Billion. Pakistani negotiators are exploring alternative financial maneuvers to manage the expensive debt burden. Seeking low-interest bilateral funding including potential long-term loan packages in the range of $6 billion to $10 billion from partner nations like Saudi Arabia to retire high-cost Chinese energy loans. Requesting cabinet approval for extensions on expiring domestic banking facilities to prevent immediate default claims. Balancing the debt burden through structured tariff pass-throughs, though consumer capacity to absorb higher electricity prices remains extremely strained. The dispute underscores a delicate transition in the CPEC bilateral relationship. While both nations remain deeply committed to long-term strategic partnership and Phase-Two infrastructure development, commercial reality is setting a firmer baseline. Moving forward, resolving the sovereign debt backlog will require transparent structural reforms within Pakistan’s power distribution setup rather than relying on debt waivers from foreign investors.

    ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has fixed September 16 for hearing a contempt petition filed by Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding his medical treatment. The petition was submitted after the government took Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of shifting him to Shifa International Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court in its August 18 order. The court had also directed arrangements for regular meetings between Imran Khan and his family. PTI had challenged the government’s decision and filed a contempt petition through Uzma Khanum. The petition was returned after the Supreme Court registrar raised certain objections. The party later resubmitted it after addressing the objections. Speaking outside the Supreme Court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said the party wanted the matter to be heard at the earliest. He said the PTI founder’s health remained the party’s primary concern. Gohar urged the authorities to facilitate meetings between Imran Khan and his family members. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order had not been implemented in its original form. Uzma Khanum also submitted an application seeking an early hearing. She expressed concern over what she described as a deterioration in Imran Khan’s health and argued that further delay could have serious consequences. The application alleged that the government had failed to follow the Supreme Court’s directions. It maintained that if authorities required clarification about the order, they should have approached the court instead of taking a different course of action. The government, meanwhile, has filed a review petition challenging the August 18 order. It has described the directive as discriminatory and sought its reconsideration. Imran Khan was taken to PIMS on August 21 for a medical examination and was later returned to Adiala Jail after doctors declared him medically fit. The government has maintained that security concerns prompted the decision to use PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the security situation involving PTI workers affected the planned transfer. The Supreme Court had also declined an immediate hearing of petitions seeking contempt proceedings and review of its August 18 order. The government’s review petition is therefore expected to be heard according to the court’s schedule. Gohar said PTI wanted Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma, and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, to be included in the medical board. He also called for the medical tests recommended by Imran Khan’s doctors to be conducted. The PTI chairman said the party was currently focusing on Imran Khan’s health rather than political matters. He described the issue as a humanitarian concern and urged the authorities to implement the Supreme Court’s directions. Gohar also questioned the detention of Imran Khan’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, who was taken to Shifa International Hospital. He asked why the doctor was detained for several hours while Imran Khan was not transferred to the same facility. He reiterated that a Supreme Court order should be followed unless the court itself modifies, reviews or suspends it. Gohar said PTI also recognised the importance of security arrangements and did not want any violation of security protocols. However, he claimed the party had not been informed in advance that security concerns would prevent Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital.
