SC fixes Sept 16 hearing on Imran’s medical tran…

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has fixed September 16 for hearing a contempt petition filed by Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding his medical treatment.

The petition was submitted after the government took Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of shifting him to Shifa International Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court in its August 18 order.

The court had also directed arrangements for regular meetings between Imran Khan and his family.

PTI had challenged the government’s decision and filed a contempt petition through Uzma Khanum. The petition was returned after the Supreme Court registrar raised certain objections. The party later resubmitted it after addressing the objections.

Speaking outside the Supreme Court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said the party wanted the matter to be heard at the earliest. He said the PTI founder’s health remained the party’s primary concern.

Gohar urged the authorities to facilitate meetings between Imran Khan and his family members. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order had not been implemented in its original form.

Uzma Khanum also submitted an application seeking an early hearing. She expressed concern over what she described as a deterioration in Imran Khan’s health and argued that further delay could have serious consequences.

The application alleged that the government had failed to follow the Supreme Court’s directions. It maintained that if authorities required clarification about the order, they should have approached the court instead of taking a different course of action.

The government, meanwhile, has filed a review petition challenging the August 18 order. It has described the directive as discriminatory and sought its reconsideration.

Imran Khan was taken to PIMS on August 21 for a medical examination and was later returned to Adiala Jail after doctors declared him medically fit.

The government has maintained that security concerns prompted the decision to use PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the security situation involving PTI workers affected the planned transfer.

The Supreme Court had also declined an immediate hearing of petitions seeking contempt proceedings and review of its August 18 order. The government’s review petition is therefore expected to be heard according to the court’s schedule.

Gohar said PTI wanted Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma, and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, to be included in the medical board. He also called for the medical tests recommended by Imran Khan’s doctors to be conducted.

The PTI chairman said the party was currently focusing on Imran Khan’s health rather than political matters. He described the issue as a humanitarian concern and urged the authorities to implement the Supreme Court’s directions.

Gohar also questioned the detention of Imran Khan’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, who was taken to Shifa International Hospital. He asked why the doctor was detained for several hours while Imran Khan was not transferred to the same facility.

He reiterated that a Supreme Court order should be followed unless the court itself modifies, reviews or suspends it.

Gohar said PTI also recognised the importance of security arrangements and did not want any violation of security protocols. However, he claimed the party had not been informed in advance that security concerns would prevent Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

Polling is underway at 57 polling stations in Muzaffarabad for two constituencies of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, LA-27 and LA-28, following a one-day delay caused by adverse weather conditions. Voting in the two constituencies was postponed on Sunday after bad weather disrupted the electoral process. Polling has now resumed, with voters turning out to cast their ballots and choose their representatives. Election staff and security personnel have been deployed at the polling stations to facilitate voters and maintain law and order throughout the voting process. The elections are being held in phases across Azad Jammu and Kashmir. According to unofficial and preliminary results announced so far, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won 14 constituencies, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured victories in five constituencies. The results remain unofficial until the relevant election authorities complete the formal process and announce the final outcome. The overall electoral picture is expected to become clearer as polling concludes in the remaining constituencies and official results are compiled. The division includes four districts—Rawalakot, Poonch, Bagh and Haveli—and comprises 11 Legislative Assembly constituencies, ranging from LA-14 to LA-24. Election authorities have urged voters to exercise their right to vote peacefully and follow the established electoral procedures. The final results from all phases will provide a complete picture of the electoral mandate and determine the political balance in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

    Here’s why Disney+ cancelled Marvel’s Wonder Man

Marvel Studios has reportedly cancelled Wonder Man after its first season, with the Disney+ series not expected to return for a second instalment as the company continues reshaping its television strategy. According to Variety, Marvel never planned to move forward with a second season in the traditional way. A source told the publication that a writers’ room for a follow-up season was never opened, and members of the creative team have since been released from the project. The comedy-drama starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as aspiring actor Simon Williams, alongside Ben Kingsley, who reprised his Marvel role as Trevor Slattery. The cast also included X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed and Olivia Thirlby. The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. Cretton directed the opening two episodes, while Guest served as the show’s executive producer and showrunner. Despite its reported cancellation, Wonder Man received a strong response from critics. The show’s first season earned a 91% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of Marvel Television’s best-reviewed recent projects. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also received an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance. The nomination marked another milestone in his career, making him the first live-action performer to receive Emmy recognition for both Marvel and DC projects after previously winning for HBO’s Watchmen. Television critic Alison Herman praised the performances of the two lead actors, writing, “Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley make their characters equally ridiculous and romantic, urged on by a motivation more intimate and individual than saving the world.” Marvel described the series through its official synopsis, stating, “Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Abdul Mateen) is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery (Kingsley), an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him, Simon learns legendary director Von Kovak (Burić) is remaking the superhero film ‘Wonder Man.’” The synopsis continues, “These two actors at opposite ends of their careers doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.” Although Disney has not released official streaming figures, Wonder Man briefly reached No. 8 on Nielsen’s Streaming Originals chart during its debut week before dropping out of the rankings the following week. The reported cancellation comes as Disney continues reducing its Marvel television output in favour of fewer, more focused productions. The studio has increasingly shifted away from producing a large number of interconnected streaming series, instead prioritising projects with stronger long-term potential. The latest development is particularly surprising because Wonder Man had reportedly been greenlit for a second season in March, only weeks after its debut. However, according to Variety, those plans ultimately did not progress into active development, with no writers’ room ever being assembled. While Marvel Studios has not officially commented on the report, the decision signals another step in Disney’s broader effort to streamline its Marvel Television slate despite the show’s positive reviews and award recognition.

Billy Strings reacts after fan throws object onstage

Billy Strings has opened up about a shocking moment during his recent concert in Indiana after a fan threw an object at him while he was performing on stage. The incident took place on Thursday, August 6, during one of the bluegrass musician’s sold-out shows in Fishers, Indiana. Strings was in the middle of addressing the audience when an object, reportedly believed to be a lighter, was thrown toward him and struck him on the head. The unexpected incident came just as the singer was expressing his excitement about being back in Indiana. Strings had previously been forced to postpone a performance, making the return particularly meaningful for him. “Thank you so much, I’m so glad I can make it down here. To make up for last time,” he told the audience before the object hit him. Clearly frustrated by what had happened, Strings immediately reacted from the stage. He questioned why anyone would throw something at him, especially when he had been preparing to tell the crowd how happy he was to perform for them. “What the hell, man? Maybe not. Maybe I shouldn’t have come back,” the musician said in an angry response. He went on to express his disappointment, pointing out that he had been feeling positive about the crowd before the incident interrupted the moment. “I was just getting ready to say how much I’m happy to be here, and I love you guys,” Strings said while addressing the person responsible. The musician’s reaction became one of the most talked-about moments from the concert, as fans expressed concern over the decision to throw an object toward a performer. Strings appeared determined not to let the incident completely derail the show, but the experience clearly left him frustrated. In a later remark, he made a strong statement about identifying the person who had thrown the object. Following the incident, Strings also appeared on stage wearing protective headgear, seemingly taking extra precautions during his performances. The Indiana concert was particularly notable as it marked an important return to the stage for Strings following his previous major performances. He had most recently performed during Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour stop in Spokane, Washington. During that appearance, Strings paid tribute to legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, who was also present at the event and performed “All Along the Watchtower.” Strings has also experienced deeply emotional moments during his career. Months after that performance, he paid tribute to his late mother during an emotional concert in Lexington, reportedly taking the stage only hours after learning about her death. Despite the difficult moments surrounding his recent performances, Strings has continued connecting with audiences through his music. However, the incident in Indiana has highlighted the risks performers can face when audience members behave unpredictably during live shows.

According to police, the alleged assault took place overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday on Brighton seafront. Officers responded to reports of the incident and immediately secured the area near the Brighton i360 tower, where forensic specialists examined the scene and gathered evidence. A significant police presence remained at the location while investigations were carried out. Sussex Police confirmed that a 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of rape. Authorities said the man remains under investigation and has not yet been formally charged. Under UK legal procedures, suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court. Police have not released the identity of either the suspect or the victim. Officials also declined to disclose the suspect’s nationality, explaining that such information is generally not made public before formal charges are filed. The force said the woman is receiving support from specially trained officers and victim support services as the investigation continues. Authorities emphasized that protecting the victim’s privacy remains a priority. Investigators have appealed to members of the public who were in the Brighton Beach or Brighton i360 area at the time of the alleged incident to come forward with any information. Sussex Police stressed that the investigation is still in its early stages and that further updates will be released as more information becomes available. Officers urged the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are ongoing. The latest investigation comes only weeks after another high-profile criminal case involving a sexual assault on Brighton Beach concluded in court. In that separate case, three men were convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the rape of an unconscious woman. That case is unrelated to the current investigation but has drawn renewed attention to public safety along the popular seaside destination. Police have reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the latest allegations and ensuring that anyone with relevant information contacts the authorities. The outcome of the case will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
