Pattaya Condo Fire Forces Early Morning Evacuation; Cat Suspected of Accidentally Turning On Electric Stove

PATTAYA, Thailand – August 4, 2026 – A fire broke out in the early hours of Tuesday at a popular condo in Soi Thappraya 7, causing a chaotic early morning evacuation of residents.

At 2:36 a.m., the Pattaya City Land Disaster Relief Radio Center received a report of a residential fire. Officials immediately coordinated with Pattaya City Police Station, Banglamung District administrative officers, volunteer rescue workers and firefighters, who rushed to the scene.

Flames were found raging heavily in Room 610 on the sixth floor of Building D, with thick smoke filling the area. Firefighters and responders quickly evacuated both Thai and foreign residents from the building amid confusion and panic. Crews used water hoses to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading. The fire was brought under control after approximately two hours, leaving the interior of the unit completely destroyed. No one was injured.

The room’s owner, identified only as a Thai woman named May, said she was asleep when she suddenly woke to a strong burning smell. She discovered the fire originating from the electric stove in the kitchen, grabbed her phone and cat, and fled, seeking help from a neighboring resident and condominium staff. The flames spread rapidly, forcing everyone to escape down the building.

May said she suspects her cat may have accidentally stepped on the stove’s power switch, noting that similar incidents had occurred before. However, she added that the exact cause would be determined by investigators from the Region 2 Forensic Science Division in Chonburi Province, who are examining the scene.
