Takhian Tia Mayor Launches Local Wisdom Project Focusing on Coconut Coffee, Natural-Dye Tie-Dye Fabrics, and Gua Sha Massages to Boost Community Identity and Sustainable Income
TAKHIAN TIA – August 4th, 2026 – Mayor Mitchai Prakobtham of Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality led the opening ceremony of a project promoting learning activities based on local knowledge sources and traditional wisdom. The event took place at Suan Fa Sai Aiko in Village No. 2 in the Takhian Tia Subdistrict.
Deputy Mayor Wachira Suthoe, along with municipal executives, the deputy permanent secretary, council members, education division officials, community leaders and more than 50 residents attended the ceremony.
Mayor Mitchai stated that the municipality prioritizes the preservation and continuation of local wisdom alongside improving residents’ quality of life. The goal is to encourage communities to adapt ancestral knowledge for everyday use, create occupations and generate additional household income, thereby strengthening the local grassroots economy.
“Society, lifestyles and values are changing rapidly, causing many forms of local wisdom to be overlooked and less frequently passed on to younger generations,” the mayor said. “Takhian Tia Subdistrict Municipality recognizes the importance of conserving community learning sources and promoting experiential learning so that people can appreciate this knowledge, apply it productively and develop sustainable livelihoods.”
Activities that drew strong interest included hands-on workshops on making fabric bags using natural-dye tie-dye techniques that showcase traditional handicrafts; demonstrations and practical training in proper gua sha massage to relieve muscle aches and locked fingers; and lessons on coconut coffee, a distinctive local product unique to Takhian Tia with its characteristic flavor.
Dr. Malinee Singhasuwich, a Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization council member and president of the Bang Saen Lions Club, attended the event. She expressed support for community-based tourism and encouraged the Takhian Tia community enterprise group to develop local products for wider recognition.
Members of the community enterprise group and the owner of Suan Fa Sai Aiko served as instructors, sharing knowledge and recommending how to enjoy the signature coconut coffee. They advised drinking it within three hours of preparation to experience its optimal taste and aroma, the special charm that impresses visitors.
Dr. Malinee said she was delighted to join the activity and impressed by Takhian Tia’s potential. “The community possesses outstanding local wisdom and products like coconut coffee, natural-dye tie-dye fabrics and gua sha massages. These valuable assets can be further developed to generate income and creative tourism,” she noted. She invited the public and tourists to experience the community’s unique attractions, support local products and help promote them more widely to create sustainable economic value.
