Lahore: The family of late Pakistani comedian Allah Rakha, popularly known as Allah Rakha Pepsi, has appealed to veteran actor and comedian Sohail Ahmed to refrain from making personal remarks about the late entertainer, saying such comments have caused them pain.

In a recent interview, Allah Rakha’s daughters expressed disappointment over Sohail Ahmed’s public statements, urging him to respect their father’s memory. One of his daughters recalled that her father had introduced Sohail Ahmed to the family as someone they should regard like an uncle, making the recent remarks especially hurtful.

She requested that their family’s dignity be respected and asked that her father’s name not be dragged into public discussions. She added that Allah Rakha had faced many hardships during his lifetime and deserved to rest in peace after his passing.

The response came after Sohail Ahmed praised Allah Rakha as a talented performer but also spoke publicly about the circumstances surrounding his death, claiming the comedian suffered a heart attack while filming and was under emotional stress due to concerns about his daughter’s divorce.

Allah Rakha Pepsi passed away last month after suffering a heart attack during a shooting session, leaving behind a legacy as one of Pakistan’s beloved comedians.

    JAKARTA: At least 47 people were killed after a powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia on Saturday, triggering dozens of aftershocks, landslides and a brief tsunami warning, authorities said. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported widespread damage across the affected region, while rescue operations were hampered by blocked roads and disrupted communications. Teams were still unable to reach Nagekeo, the area closest to the epicentre, because landslides had cut off road access. In the port town of Maumere, rescuers recovered 20 bodies and found six injured people, while two others remained trapped beneath rubble. Officials said residents were also trapped in damaged buildings in other parts of the region. Tsunami waves measuring less than one metre were recorded in several coastal areas following the early-morning quake. Authorities lifted the tsunami warning around three hours later. Around 2,000 people in Nagekeo were evacuated as homes, warehouses and government buildings suffered damage. Power outages and severe traffic disruptions were also reported. Rescue teams were attempting to reach isolated communities by alternative routes, including ferry services, as authorities continued assessing the full scale of the disaster.

They maintained that the new pricing mechanism would improve market operations and ensure a more transparent process for consumers and industry stakeholders. The negotiations were attended by Chairman of the Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association Humayun Khan, Vice Chairman Atif Butt and other representatives of petroleum dealers. After detailed discussions, both sides agreed to continue consultations instead of moving ahead with the planned strike. Following the successful talks, the Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association and the Dealers Association officially announced the postponement of their nationwide protest. The decision removed the immediate threat of fuel shortages that could have affected transport, businesses and the general public. Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik thanked petrol pump owners and dealers for choosing dialogue over confrontation. He said the government values the role of petroleum sector stakeholders and remains committed to resolving outstanding issues through mutual consultation. The minister said Pakistan has been facing difficult regional circumstances in recent months, creating economic challenges and uncertainty. He added that the prime minister is fully aware of the hardships being faced by citizens and is committed to protecting the public from additional financial burdens. Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government has already provided subsidies worth hundreds of billions of rupees to support consumers. He added that a targeted subsidy mechanism has been developed to ensure assistance reaches those who need it most.     JAZAN: Firefighters have extinguished a blaze that erupted early Sunday at a facility within Saudi Aramco’s Jazan refinery in southwestern Saudi Arabia, with authorities confirming that no injuries were reported. The Saudi Energy Ministry said Aramco’s industrial security teams quickly brought the fire under control. Relevant authorities were subsequently working to complete procedures related to the incident. The ministry did not disclose what caused the fire or provide details about the extent of any damage. Located on the Red Sea near Saudi Arabia’s border with Yemen, the Jazan refinery has a processing capacity of around 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The facility produces several refined petroleum products, including gasoline and ultra-low-sulfur diesel. The latest incident comes shortly after the refinery was shut down following an attack in late July that Saudi authorities attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement. The attack reportedly damaged parts of the refinery’s integrated gasification complex and tank storage facilities.     The Sindh High Court has dismissed a petition seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party leader and National Assembly member Shazia Marri over an alleged fake degree. The court announced its decision after the case remained pending for around 13 years. The petition was declared not maintainable and subsequently rejected. The court said the High Court does not have constitutional authority to disqualify a member of Parliament. According to the court, such matters must be dealt with through the relevant constitutional and electoral forums. The court also noted that a similar objection had previously been raised during the 2018 general elections. The matter was taken before an election tribunal at that time. The Election Commission later rejected the objection concerning Marri’s degree in 2022. An appeal against the tribunal’s decision was subsequently filed before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal in 2023 after it was withdrawn. During the latest proceedings, Marri’s lawyer argued that the degree issue had already been examined by the Election Commission. He told the court that evidence relating to the qualification had been presented before the commission. The lawyer maintained that the Election Commission had already rejected the petition concerning Marri’s degree. The court also discussed the constitutional requirements for disqualification. It observed that a person cannot be disqualified simply through a constitutional petition. The court said the authority to determine whether a person meets the required constitutional standards rests with the appropriate judicial and electoral forums. It further stated that the courts cannot declare an individual truthful and trustworthy outside the constitutional procedure provided for such matters. The judges also referred to previous orders of the Supreme Court while determining the maintainability of the petition. Based on these considerations, the court concluded that the petition could not be entertained. The decision brings an end to a legal challenge that had remained pending for more than a decade. The case had focused on allegations concerning Marri’s educational qualification. However, the Election Commission had already rejected the related objection. The latest ruling also reinforces the distinction between the powers of the High Court and those of election tribunals and other constitutional forums in matters involving parliamentary eligibility. The court’s decision means that the petition seeking Marri’s disqualification has been dismissed without granting the requested relief.
