Atif Aslam says he misses Indian fans amid music ban

Atif Aslam remains one of Pakistan’s most celebrated and internationally recognised singers, with a massive fan base extending far beyond the country.

Known for his soulful voice, emotional delivery and remarkable vocal range, the singer has built a successful career through numerous hit songs, including Aadat, Kuch Is Tarha, Ba Khuda and Dil Diyan Gallan.

His popularity has also earned him a huge social media following of more than 11 million fans.

Atif Aslam is currently in Dubai for his professional music commitments, where he has also been making appearances on podcasts and speaking with digital creators.

During one of his recent interviews, the singer opened up about his connection with his Indian audience and admitted that he misses his fans across the border.

Atif appeared on Kris Fade’s podcast, One on One with Kris Fade, where he discussed his upcoming musical projects, his career and his plans for creating new music.

While speaking about his latest work, the singer also addressed the restrictions affecting Pakistani artists working in India.

Atif revealed that he is currently working on a new project titled Borderless Music. According to the singer, the project will bring together a wide range of musicians and creatives, including young emerging artists, senior performers, legendary musicians, composers and songwriters.

He explained that audiences can expect plenty of new music from the project and used the opportunity to send a heartfelt message to his Indian fans.

Addressing them directly, Atif said that they should not feel disappointed or saddened by the current ban. He emphasised that although he misses his Indian fans, he does not necessarily miss working in India itself.

The singer reflected on the important role that playback singing in India played in shaping his musical journey.

He explained that his experience in playback singing taught him a great deal and contributed significantly to his growth as an artist.

Atif further suggested that the circumstances surrounding the ban eventually encouraged him to focus more strongly on producing his own music.

He acknowledged that without the change in circumstances, he may not have had the same opportunity to explore and develop his own musical projects.

Despite the professional restrictions, Atif expressed gratitude towards his Indian audience for continuing to support him. He appreciated the fact that his fans remained connected to him and stood by him during a difficult period.

His comments highlight the lasting bond he shares with listeners in India, where his songs have enjoyed considerable popularity over the years.

Even though Pakistani artists currently face restrictions on working in the Indian entertainment industry, Atif’s message showed that his appreciation for his Indian fans remains unchanged.

With Borderless Music in the works, the singer appears focused on exploring new collaborations and expanding his musical horizons. His upcoming project is expected to bring together artists from different backgrounds while allowing Atif to further establish himself as an independent music creator.

    ISLAMABAD: The federal government is preparing a wide-ranging reform package aimed at revitalising Pakistan’s construction industry, improving regulatory oversight and attracting greater investment in modern infrastructure. The proposed measures include the establishment of a Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB), consideration of a specialised Construction Development Bank (CDB), targeted tax reforms and changes to import and export policies. The proposals were discussed during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Establishment Division Senator Ahad Khan Cheema. The meeting brought together senior government officials, representatives of the Construction Association of Pakistan and other stakeholders to examine the sector’s financial, regulatory and operational challenges. Under the proposed framework, the CIDB would promote the development of the construction industry while also regulating contractors, consultants and industry standards. The body would include representatives from both the public and private sectors and would seek to establish more consistent construction standards across the country. Senator Cheema said the government and the Construction Association of Pakistan were in agreement over the need for a dedicated regulatory and development body. The proposed framework will be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval. The government also plans to introduce targeted tax incentives and rationalise import and export policies to encourage the use of modern construction technologies and strengthen local production capacity. In a significant move to improve the quality and durability of public infrastructure, the standard Defect Liability Period for public development projects is expected to increase from one year to three years, with a longer-term plan to extend it to five years. The proposed reforms would also increase accountability for consultants. Unlike contractors, who can face penalties for poor performance, consultants currently have limited direct legal accountability. Under the new framework, consultants could be subjected to regulatory oversight and held financially and legally responsible for design defects and technical errors. The government is also examining the construction industry’s difficulties in obtaining financial and performance guarantees. Senator Cheema directed Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani to consult the State Bank of Pakistan and Pakistan Banks Association on these issues and assess the feasibility of establishing a dedicated Construction Development Bank. The government says the reforms are intended to ensure that public infrastructure projects deliver better value for money, remain durable and meet higher technical standards. Officials believe stronger regulation and accountability could reduce disputes, improve construction quality and bring Pakistan’s industry closer to international standards.

According to SUPARCO, the chances of sighting the moon are very low as it will be approximately 20 hours and 53 minutes old at sunset. SUPARCO said Rabi-ul-Awwal 1 is likely to fall on Saturday. However, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is the competent authority to make the final announcement regarding the sighting or non-sighting of the moon.

    ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has offered himself for accountability following the deaths of newborns in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), as criticism over the tragedy intensified. Speaking to the media outside PIMS on Wednesday, Kamal said he had placed himself before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for accountability and would accept whatever decision the premier makes. “I have presented myself before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for accountability. He is my boss and will decide my fate,” the minister said. Kamal also assured that action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence or any other mistake linked to the incident. The minister said preliminary CCTV footage had provided investigators with an indication of how the fire started. According to him, the footage showed a spark near an air conditioner at around 6:38am. People were seen leaving the area shortly afterwards. He said the presence of oxygen in the ward caused the flames to intensify rapidly. Kamal maintained that the government would not conceal any information related to the incident and that those responsible would be dealt with according to the findings of the investigation. The minister faced protests and angry reactions from people gathered outside the hospital while speaking to reporters. The situation became tense, forcing him to leave the premises. The tragedy has triggered demands for a transparent investigation and accountability of all officials and staff whose actions or omissions may have contributed to the deaths. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Sherry Rehman also called for the health minister’s resignation, saying serious questions had emerged about emergency arrangements at the hospital. Rehman claimed that the emergency department’s door was locked after the fire and that people had to break windows to gain access. She also questioned the reported absence of doctors at the scene. The PPP senator said her party was not seeking to politicise the tragedy but had a responsibility to ask questions about the circumstances that led to the loss of newborn lives. “The minister responsible should resign,” Rehman said. Another senior PPP leader, Nayer Hussain Bokhari, said the Health Ministry must answer questions surrounding the incident. He argued that holding only a single secretary responsible would not be sufficient if the investigation identifies wider administrative failures. The incident has placed renewed focus on safety measures, emergency preparedness and accountability at major public hospitals. Authorities are expected to determine the exact cause of the fire and establish whether negligence, equipment failure or administrative shortcomings contributed to the deaths.

    Pakistan’s Saqib and Jawad punch their way into GAMMA MMA finals

    Pakistan has two fighters through to the finals of the GAMMA Asian MMA Championship 2026. Muhammad Saqib and Muhammad Jawad both delivered strong performances on Wednesday to book their places in the title matches of their respective weight categories. The event, formally known as the 2nd GAMMA Asian MMA Championships, is currently underway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It runs from July 28 through August 2, 2026. The tournament is organized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts and brings together elite fighters from across the continent, spanning both youth and senior divisions, all competing for gold. Getting to the finals was not easy. Both Pakistani athletes had to get past tough opponents from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan in earlier rounds. They did so by showing sharp technical skill, real determination, and a fighting spirit that stood out throughout the competition. Saqib will step into the Under-18 category final, where he will face a fighter from Kazakhstan. Jawad, meanwhile, has his own final lined up in the Under-16 category, also against a Kazakh opponent. This is not a new territory for Saqib, either. He already has an impressive résumé, having won gold at the GAMMA World MMA Championship back in 2024, along with several other international successes representing Pakistan. Their progress has not gone unnoticed back home. Zulfiqar Ali, who heads the Pakistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation, spoke highly of both fighters following their wins. He said the federation feels genuine pride in watching these young athletes compete, and he extended that praise to their coaches and the broader national team as well. According to Ali, both Saqib and Jawad have represented Pakistan with serious dedication. He pointed to their training and mental toughness as key reasons for their success so far in the tournament. He didn’t stop there, either. Ali went on to wish both fighters well ahead of their upcoming final bouts, saying the whole country would be cheering them on. He added that he expects both athletes to carry the same energy and focus into their finals that got them this far.     Kerosene price reduced as government extends relief on petroleum products

    The federal government has extended the latest reduction in petroleum prices by lowering the cost of kerosene oil, providing additional relief to consumers who rely on the fuel for household and commercial use, particularly in remote and off-grid areas. According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of kerosene has been reduced by Rs3.58 per litre. Following the latest revision, the new retail price of kerosene has been fixed at Rs301.64 per litre, down from the previous rate of Rs305.22 per litre. The reduction comes as part of the government’s broader revision of petroleum product prices aimed at passing on the benefit of changes in international oil markets to consumers. Earlier, the Petroleum Division announced fresh prices for major petroleum products effective from August 4, confirming a decrease in the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel. Under the revised rates, petrol has become cheaper by Rs4.80 per litre, bringing its new price down to Rs331.95 per litre. Likewise, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs2.45 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs389.93 per litre. The latest cuts are expected to provide modest relief to motorists, transporters, and businesses facing high operating costs, while the reduction in kerosene prices is likely to benefit households in regions where the fuel remains a primary source for cooking, heating, and lighting.
