Iran denies holding talks with US

Iran has dismissed reports of ongoing negotiations with the United States, saying there are currently no direct talks between the two countries, while confirming that discussions with Oman are focused solely on establishing a temporary maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the consultations with Oman are aimed at ensuring safe navigation in the strategic waterway and should not be interpreted as an agreement to fully reopen the strait. He maintained that the security situation in the region remains unchanged and insisted that any broader decision regarding the Strait of Hormuz would depend on regional developments.

Baghaei also said there are no plans for Iranian or American delegations to meet in the coming days, rejecting speculation that formal negotiations are currently underway.

His remarks came after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington expected to begin talks with Iran and suggested that diplomatic efforts had prompted him to cancel a planned military operation. Trump said discussions involving Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Iran had encouraged the United States to pursue diplomacy instead of military action.

The US president said he preferred reaching a negotiated settlement but warned that military options remained available if diplomacy failed. He expressed hope that an agreement could eventually address both navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.

Meanwhile, regional tensions remain high despite renewed diplomatic efforts. Reports emerged that an explosion occurred near a commercial tanker off the coast of Oman. Maritime authorities said the vessel and its crew were safe, while an investigation into the incident is underway.

In another development, Iraq’s state oil marketing company reportedly offered significant discounts on Basrah crude exports to encourage buyers to lift cargoes from facilities inside the Strait of Hormuz, reflecting continuing uncertainty in regional energy markets.

Iran also announced the execution of two men convicted of spying for Israel’s intelligence agency, saying they had provided sensitive military information to foreign operatives.

The uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continues to affect global energy markets. The waterway handles a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, making any disruption a major concern for international trade and energy security.

Passengers walking through the red-carpeted Terminal 3 no longer need to show travel documents or stop for manual checks. They only need to complete registration before arriving at Dubai Airport so that their passport details and facial images can be identified. The system completes passenger clearance in just 3.4 seconds. According to Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths, the airport has invested in camera technology allowing passengers to enter or leave the country without carrying a passport, passing through gate readers or facing difficulties during the process. He further stated that the new technology is currently being tested on first-class passengers and will gradually be made available to all passengers.

    TAXILA: A female TikTok content creator was shot dead and her teenage sister critically wounded in a broad-daylight attack near the Taxila bypass on GT Road, police said. According to police sources, the sisters were travelling in their car when a motorcyclist intercepted them near the bypass and opened fire. Both sustained multiple bullet wounds, while their vehicle lost control and crashed into a dumper. The content creator died at the scene, while her critically injured sister was initially taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Taxila, before being shifted to Islamabad for further treatment. The victim’s brother told police that he had nominated two suspects in the case, alleging that a financial dispute between the woman and the accused had led to the targeted attack. Police registered a case and launched an investigation into the shooting. In a separate incident in Attock, police registered a target-killing case following the shooting deaths of two brothers in Malho village, within the jurisdiction of Rango Police Station in Hazro. Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a village pond in the Chappri area of Jand. Rescue 1122 officials recovered the boy’s body and shifted it to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital. Police registered a case and began an investigation into the incident.

    J-10C jets downed six Indian aircraft: report

    Pakistan Air Force’s J-10C fighter jets reportedly engaged Indian aircraft during the May 2025 aerial confrontation without direct support from airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft. The jets were reportedly able to track targets from a distance of around 200 kilometres. The report claimed that six Indian aircraft were shot down during the confrontation. It included three Rafale fighter jets among the aircraft allegedly destroyed. The report said the Pakistani fighters did not require direct targeting assistance from AEW&C aircraft during the reported engagements. Instead, the J-10Cs reportedly used their own radar systems to identify and track targets. The KLJ-7A is an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar designed for modern air combat. It can detect and track multiple targets and provide information needed for air-to-air engagements. The report’s claims have drawn attention because AEW&C aircraft are normally used to provide wider-area surveillance and help fighter jets detect threats at longer ranges. The reported use of the J-10C’s onboard radar suggests that the aircraft could conduct long-range engagements with greater independence from airborne surveillance platforms. The May 2025 confrontation involved intense aerial activity between Pakistan and India. Both sides made competing claims about losses and the effectiveness of their military operations. The claim that six Indian aircraft were destroyed, including three Rafales, has not been independently verified. India has also disputed Pakistan’s claims about aircraft losses.
