Karachi’s cycle ambulance goes viral amid online…

KARACHI: A cycle ambulance service in Karachi has gained widespread attention on social media after videos of the emergency response initiative went viral, sparking both criticism and appreciation online.

Several users mocked the pedal-powered ambulance, comparing it with advanced emergency services used in other countries. Some social media posts also incorrectly linked the launch of the initiative to Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab.

However, the cycle ambulance programme was introduced in May 2025 by the Sindh Integrated Emergency and Health Services (SIEHS-1122) as a pilot project. It was designed to provide faster medical assistance in densely populated areas of Karachi where narrow streets and heavy traffic can delay conventional ambulances.

The specially equipped bicycles allow trained emergency responders to reach patients quickly and provide immediate medical support before a regular ambulance arrives.

Each cycle ambulance carries essential medical equipment, including first-aid supplies, oxygen masks, nebulisers and blood sugar testing devices. Responders use the equipment to stabilise patients and provide initial care during emergencies.

The initiative also involved trained female volunteers, aiming to improve access to emergency healthcare services and encourage women’s participation in community rescue operations.

While the project became the subject of online jokes and criticism, supporters highlighted its practical value, especially in crowded neighbourhoods where traditional ambulances may face difficulties reaching patients on time.

Officials and supporters of the programme said the cycle ambulance service is not intended to replace standard ambulances but to act as a rapid-response solution for immediate assistance in areas with access challenges.

India reclaim No. 1 T20I ranking after Zimbabwe series win

HARARE: India have climbed back to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I team rankings after taking an unassailable lead in their three-match series against Zimbabwe, quickly reclaiming the position they had lost earlier this month. The reigning T20 world champions moved to No. 1 after defeating Zimbabwe by 90 runs in the second T20I at Harare on Saturday. The victory gave India a 2-0 lead in the series and pushed them ahead of England in the rankings. India had slipped to second after a difficult tour of England, where they suffered a heavy series defeat. England had subsequently taken over the top spot after India’s long reign at No. 1 came to an end. The return to the summit has come quickly, with India showing a strong response against Zimbabwe. In the second T20I, India posted 219 for five, powered by Ishan Kishan’s 81 from 44 balls and an unbeaten 60 from Tilak Varma. Zimbabwe were then dismissed for 129 in 17.5 overs as India completed a convincing victory. The first match had also gone India’s way. They chased down Zimbabwe’s 125 for seven in just 13.2 overs, winning by seven wickets, with young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hitting a rapid 50 from only 19 deliveries. India’s return to No. 1 underlines the competitiveness at the top of the T20I rankings. Before the Zimbabwe series, England were ranked first with India second, while Australia, New Zealand and South Africa occupied the next three places. Pakistan remain sixth, followed by West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in the top 10. With the series already secured, India entered the third T20I with an opportunity to complete a clean sweep. The result could also prove important in what is currently a closely contested battle for the top ranking. For India, however, the immediate message is clear: “after a brief fall from the summit, the world champions are back at No. 1.”

Barrister Gohar again seeks permission to meet PTI…

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has once again appealed for permission to meet the party’s founding chairman, saying that he has not met him since October 15, 2025. Barrister Gohar said he was once again requesting the authorities to allow him to meet the PTI founder. He strongly denied reports or claims suggesting that he had met the party founder after October 15, 2025. “I once again request that I be allowed to meet the founding chairman,” Barrister Gohar said, reiterating his demand for access to the incarcerated PTI leader. The PTI chairman clarified that he had not met the party founder since October 15 last year and categorically rejected any suggestion that a meeting had taken place after that date. According to him, despite repeatedly submitting requests for a meeting, he had neither been offered an opportunity nor granted permission to meet the former prime minister. Barrister Gohar said that his repeated requests had not resulted in any meeting being arranged. He maintained that he had made several attempts to obtain permission but had not received a positive response from the relevant authorities. The PTI chairman said he would once again submit a request for permission to meet the party founder. He also stressed the importance of allowing the founder’s family members and legal team to meet him. His remarks come amid continued political and legal developments surrounding the PTI founder, whose access to family members, lawyers and party leadership has remained a subject of political discussion. Barrister Gohar’s statement also seeks to clarify his own position regarding reports about his alleged meetings with the PTI founder. By specifying October 15, 2025 as the date of his last meeting, he rejected any claims that he had subsequently met the party leader. The PTI chairman emphasized that he had not been given even a single opportunity to meet the founder despite repeatedly requesting permission. He therefore appealed again to the authorities to facilitate a meeting. The issue of access to political leaders in custody has remained particularly significant for their parties, as meetings with senior leadership allow them to discuss political strategy, legal matters and organizational issues. For PTI, communication with its founder is especially important because party members have frequently sought his guidance on political and legal matters. Barrister Gohar’s latest comments indicate that he intends to continue pursuing permission for a meeting. He did not indicate that any such permission had been granted. He also called for the founder’s family and lawyers to be given access, underscoring their role in maintaining communication and handling his legal affairs. The PTI chairman concluded by reiterating his request for permission to meet the party founder. His statement makes clear that, according to his account, no meeting has taken place between the two since October 15, 2025. The development is likely to attract further political attention as PTI continues to seek access to its founder and maintain communication with him regarding the party’s political and legal affairs.

PPP resents Punjab’s development says Uzma Bukha…

Lahore: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is fully aware of why the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) harbors resentment toward Punjab, adding that the province’s rapid development has become difficult for its political opponents to accept. Responding to recent statements made by PPP spokespersons in Lahore, Bukhari said that the Punjab government is utilizing public funds for the welfare and development of the people of Punjab, which, according to her, is the real source of the PPP’s criticism. She remarked that the “Nawabs of Larkana” are unable to digest the fact that Punjab’s resources are being spent on improving the lives of its citizens. The Punjab information minister also addressed PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, urging him to refrain from promoting what she described as politics of hatred and division. She said that as the chairman of a major political party, Bilawal should be mindful of the responsibilities associated with his position and avoid making statements that could deepen political polarization. Bukhari questioned why PPP representatives from Sindh rarely highlight the performance of their own provincial government. Instead of criticizing Punjab, she suggested, they should focus on informing the public about the achievements and governance record of the Sindh administration, which has remained under PPP leadership for several years. Highlighting the performance of the Punjab government, Bukhari said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ensured that development projects and public resources are distributed across the province without discrimination. According to her, the government has extended development initiatives from Attock in northern Punjab to Rahim Yar Khan in the south, and from Rawalpindi to Vehari, ensuring that all regions benefit equally from provincial resources. She stated that the current administration is committed to improving public services, infrastructure, and the overall quality of life for people across Punjab. Bukhari added that those who are envious of Punjab’s progress and prosperity would continue to criticize, but such criticism would not hinder the government’s commitment to development.   Referring to the PPP’s political standing in Punjab, Bukhari claimed that the party currently ranks fourth in terms of public support in the province. She said this was not the fault of the PML-N but rather a reflection of the people’s confidence in the performance of the provincial government. According to her, Punjab’s residents continue to express satisfaction with the governance and development initiatives undertaken by the PML-N administration. In her remarks, Bukhari also referred to Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, saying that when he visited Lahore to learn from the city’s governance and development model, the Punjab government welcomed him openly. She added that the same level of development, progress, and prosperity witnessed in Punjab should also be achieved in Sindh for the benefit of its people. The minister concluded by reaffirming that the Punjab government remains focused on serving the public through transparent governance and equitable development. She maintained that political criticism would not distract the administration from its objective of ensuring sustained progress and improving living standards throughout the province.

Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem join students at Delhi protest

Actors Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem visited the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi during the early hours of Thursday, expressing support for demonstrators calling for accountability over alleged irregularities in the country’s education system. The sibling duo was accompanied by actor Rachit Singh as they walked alongside students who have been camping at the protest site for weeks. The demonstrators are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging misconduct and irregularities linked to the NEET examination process. Videos circulating on social media showed the actors arriving at the protest around 2:13 a.m. Huma, dressed casually in a black top and blue jeans, was seen interacting with protesters and walking through the gathering with a smile. Rachit Singh, wearing a white shirt, stayed close to her, while Saqib Saleem was also spotted joining the march and speaking with students. The visit quickly drew attention online, with many social media users praising the actors for showing solidarity with the students during the late-night demonstration. Others viewed their presence as a significant show of support from members of the film industry for a movement that has continued to gain momentum across the country. Huma and Rachit recently collaborated on the film Baby Do Die Do, which was produced by Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem under their production banner. Their appearance together at the protest marked an unexpected reunion, this time in support of a public cause rather than a film project. The student demonstrations, reportedly led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), have expanded to several cities in recent weeks. Protesters have continued to demand greater transparency and accountability regarding the alleged examination irregularities, while urging authorities to address their concerns. Organisers have maintained that the movement will continue until their demands are met. In a statement shared on social media, representatives of the protest said they would remain united in their campaign and continue pressing for action. The protests have witnessed moments of heightened tension. Earlier this week, clashes reportedly broke out after police attempted to disperse demonstrators using batons and tear gas. Several protesters were removed from protest sites during security operations, while opposition leaders participating in demonstrations outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence were also detained during a separate sit-in. Despite the tense atmosphere, student groups have continued their demonstrations, attracting support from activists, public figures and members of the entertainment industry. The appearance of Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem adds to the growing list of Bollywood personalities who have publicly voiced solidarity with the students and their demands. As the protests continue, attention remains focused on the government’s response and whether officials will address the concerns raised by demonstrators. With public support growing and demonstrations showing no signs of slowing down, the movement has become one of the country’s most closely watched developments in recent weeks.
