Khawaja Asif calls bureaucracy Pakistan’s real r…

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has criticised Pakistan’s bureaucracy. He described it as the country’s “real and permanent rulers.”

Asif said bureaucrats had remained largely beyond effective accountability during Pakistan’s 78-year history. He said politicians had faced accountability on numerous occasions. Other powerful groups had also been held accountable at different times.

However, he said it was difficult to find similar examples involving senior bureaucrats.

The defence minister made the remarks while sharing a social media post about alleged financial corruption involving a senior bureaucrat.

Asif said the bureaucracy had gradually become a powerful and largely untouchable class. He questioned why bureaucrats had not been subjected to the same level of scrutiny as politicians.

According to Asif, politicians themselves were partly responsible for the situation. He said political leaders had failed to establish an effective system to hold the bureaucracy accountable.

The minister also referred to a former bureaucratic ruler while discussing the influence of senior officials in Pakistan.

He said the former official used highly inappropriate and insulting language against politicians. Despite this behaviour, politicians continued to tolerate him, according to Asif.

Asif’s comments highlight his criticism of the imbalance in accountability among powerful sections of Pakistani society. His remarks also raise questions about the role of the bureaucracy in governance and decision-making.

The minister maintained that stronger accountability was needed for all powerful groups. He suggested that politicians could not blame bureaucrats alone for the existing system because political leaders had also contributed to its continuation.

SEF, Sindh Boy Scouts launch initiative to expand scouting across Foundation-assisted schools*

KARACHI: The Sindh Education Foundation (SEF), Government of Sindh has initiated a collaboration with the Sindh Boy Scouts Association by holding a Group Scout Leadership Seminar aimed at promoting leadership, discipline and community service among students enrolled in Foundation Assisted Schools. The seminar, held at the Sindh Boy Scouts Association headquarters in Karachi, brought together representatives from 32 Foundation Assisted Schools, including head teachers, faculty members and students. The event was attended by SEF Managing Director Gahanwer Ali Laghari, Deputy Managing Director Shahpara Rizvi, Regional Head Karachi Ashfaque Hussain Meerani, senior directors, assistant directors and other officials. The Sindh Boy Scouts Association was represented by Provincial Scout Secretary Syed Akhter Meer, and other office-bearers. Addressing the seminar, Provincial Scout Secretary Syed Akhter Meer welcomed the participation of SEF schools and said introducing students to the history and values of scouting would encourage them to become part of a global movement focused on leadership, character building and service. He also recalled the support extended to the scouting movement by the late Prof Dr Anita Ghulam Ali during her tenure at SEF, saying it was encouraging to witness the Foundation continuing the same commitment under the leadership of Managing Director Gahanwer Ali Laghari. Participants were also briefed on the history of the scouting movement in Sindh, its achievements and future roadmap through a presentation highlighting the organisation’s contribution to youth development. Former senior bureaucrat Ghulam Ali Pasha said leadership and discipline could not be developed through classroom education alone, stressing that scouting provides young people with practical exposure to teamwork, responsibility and community service. He described such initiatives as essential for preparing students to become confident and responsible leaders. Speaking on the occasion, SEF Managing Director Gahanwer Ali Laghari said the Foundation’s mandate extended beyond improving access to education and academic outcomes. “Alongside quality education, we want our students to develop leadership, discipline and a sense of responsibility. Through scouting, they will have an opportunity to become part of an international movement that promotes these values,” he said. Laghari announced that SEF and the Sindh Boy Scouts Association would jointly organise a series of scouting activities across Foundation Assisted Schools throughout the province. He said the initiative had been launched with schools in Karachi and would gradually be expanded to all SEF-supported schools. “Our objective is to engage the entire network of Foundation Assisted Schools, and we are hopeful that within the next one-and-a-half years, scouting activities will be introduced across the province,” he added. The initiative is expected to provide students with greater opportunities for leadership development, teamwork and community engagement alongside their academic education.

Zanjeerain takes a dramatic turn as Sarbuland and Rabia marry

Pakistani prime-time drama Zanjeerain has continued to attract strong attention from viewers with its emotional storyline, intense conflicts and unexpected twists. The Hum TV drama, directed by Shahzad Kashmiri and written by Farhat Ishtiaq, explores tribal traditions and family conflicts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The drama has gained significant popularity following several heartbreaking developments, particularly the deaths of Sher Dil, Mudassir and Bano. These events changed the direction of the story and left viewers wondering how the surviving characters would move forward. After airing 30 episodes, Zanjeerain has now reached another major turning point. In the latest episodes, the jirga made a surprising decision involving Sarbuland and Rabia. As part of the traditional practice of Khoon Baha, Sarbuland was expected to marry Rabia, a decision that came as a shock to many viewers. The much-discussed twist finally reached its conclusion in Episode 30 when Sarbuland and Rabia’s Nikah was solemnized. Their marriage has generated a strong reaction online, particularly among fans who had been hoping to see the two characters together following Bano’s tragic death. Many viewers celebrated what they saw as the much-awaited Sarbiya pairing, while others questioned the sudden development and its implications for the story. Some fans were amused by how quickly the characters moved toward marriage despite the tragic events that had taken place before it. One viewer jokingly pointed out that after so many deaths and tragedies, the characters suddenly got married without much difficulty. Another fan expressed excitement over the unexpected development, saying the twist was so surprising that they wanted to celebrate. However, not everyone was pleased with the storyline. Several viewers felt that the marriage did not fit naturally with the emotional journey of the characters. Some questioned what the development meant for Mudassir and Bano, arguing that the story appeared to move on from their relationship too quickly. Others criticised the makers for turning Mudassir’s wish to protect Rabia into a marriage between her and Sarbuland. One disappointed viewer argued that Mudassir had only asked Sarbuland to keep Rabia safe, rather than marry her. Despite the mixed reactions, the Sarbuland-Rabia Nikah has clearly become one of the most talked-about developments in Zanjeerain. The unexpected turn has left fans divided, with many now eager to see how the newly married couple’s relationship unfolds in the upcoming episodes.

Following reports of differences in her second marriage, Pakistani actress and model Nimra Khan has shared advice for parents about what they should consider before marrying their daughters. Nimra Khan has been a prominent figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry for several years. Throughout her career, she has remained in the spotlight for both her professional achievements and personal experiences. She previously made headlines after surviving a serious traffic accident and has also spoken publicly about difficulties surrounding her first marriage, including allegations of domestic abuse. More recently, Nimra Khan surprised fans by announcing her second marriage and sharing moments of happiness with her followers. However, speculation about problems in the relationship began circulating after both she and her current husband appeared to share cryptic posts on social media. While their posts have fueled discussions about their relationship, neither of them has made a clear or official announcement confirming a separation. Amid the ongoing speculation, Nimra has increasingly shared messages about unhealthy relationships and emotionally painful behavior. Her recent posts appear to emphasize the importance of self-respect, independence and making careful decisions when choosing a life partner. The actress has also suggested that women should not feel pressured to remain in an unhappy relationship simply because they are married. According to the message she has been promoting, living independently can sometimes be a better choice than spending life with the wrong person. In her latest social media activity, Nimra Khan reshared a message from a father addressing parents of daughters. The viral message advised parents to be careful when selecting a husband for their daughters and warned them against marrying their children to men who are financially dependent on others. The message used the term “beggars” to describe men who continually rely on others financially. Its central point was that parents should assess a potential groom’s financial circumstances and ability to take responsibility before finalizing a marriage. Nimra appeared to agree with the message and supported the idea that financial stability should be considered when families are discussing a marriage proposal. Her reaction has drawn attention because it comes at a time when her own personal life has become the subject of considerable public speculation. Compatibility, character, emotional maturity, mutual respect, responsibility and the ability to maintain a healthy relationship are also important factors that families and individuals can consider before marriage.
