Muay Thai Saturday Superfight returns to Legend Arena
Muay Thai Saturday Superfight returned to The Legend Arena at Bluport Hua Hin on Saturday, 23 May, with organisers saying the monthly event is aimed at promoting Muay Thai and creating more opportunities for fighters in Hua Hin.
The event drew Thai spectators and foreign visitors, with supporters gathering around the ring to watch a series of bouts featuring local fighters, young boxers and foreign athletes training in Thailand.
The fight night is being promoted as a regular Muay Thai stage for the city, with bouts scheduled during the third week of every month.
Organisers said the event gives young and emerging fighters the chance to gain experience in a live competitive setting, while also allowing foreign fighters who are learning Muay Thai in Thailand to take part in real bouts.
The latest event included several competitive contests. In the fourth bout, a young Canadian fighter, fighting under the name Majjurat Khao Sor Kriangkrai, won on points against Thanulek Sit Phet Chatchai after an entertaining contest that drew strong support from the crowd.
The main event saw Thanaphatsak Lukphu win on points against Phet Fah Sai King of Muay Thai in the final bout of the programme.
The event is led by Yaowapha “View” Buraphonchai, a former Thai national taekwondo athlete, Olympic bronze medallist and Muay Thai promoter.
Yaowapha said the aim was to create a stage that is accessible, entertaining and useful for fighters at different levels, including local boxers, children, young people and foreign fighters with an interest in Muay Thai.
“We want this stage to be a place that creates opportunities for Thai boxers, local fighters, children, young people and foreign fighters who love Muay Thai to compete for real, learn through real experience and experience the charm of Muay Thai up close,” she said.
She also thanked Bluport Hua Hin for supporting the event and its wider aim of promoting Muay Thai in the city.
“This allows us to create positive activities for Hua Hin and help promote Muay Thai among both Thai and foreign tourists,” she said.
Organisers said Muay Thai Saturday Superfight is intended to support sports tourism in Hua Hin and help promote Thailand’s national sport to a wider audience.
The event is held every third week of the month at The Legend Arena, 3rd floor, Bluport Hua Hin.
