OIC welcomes ‘historic’ Saudi-Pakistan-Türkiy…

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the joint defence agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, calling it an important strategic step toward strengthening regional security and stability.

OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed strong appreciation for the agreement, describing it as a significant development that reflects the three countries’ commitment to closer cooperation.

In a statement, the OIC said the agreement could serve as an important pillar for promoting security and stability in the region and across the wider Muslim world. The organisation also highlighted the pact’s potential to strengthen coordination among its member states in response to growing security challenges.

Taha praised the leadership and efforts of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye, saying the agreement demonstrated their shared determination to enhance collective security and constructive partnerships.

The OIC secretary-general also expressed hope that the new arrangement would contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.

The agreement was signed on Friday during a trilateral summit in Makkah, bringing together the leadership of the three countries. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the pact at the Al-Safa Palace during the summit.

Under the agreement, the three countries have committed to strengthening collective security and expanding defence cooperation. The pact has also been presented as part of broader efforts to promote peace and stability.

The agreement comes amid growing security concerns across the region, making closer coordination between major Muslim countries particularly significant.

The OIC’s endorsement gives the agreement additional diplomatic weight and underlines the organisation’s support for greater cooperation among its member states.

With Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye seeking deeper strategic ties, the new defence framework could become an important platform for future cooperation in security and defence, while its broader impact on regional stability will be closely watched.

Transporters join fuel dealers’ strike against d…

Transport associations across Pakistan have announced support for the Petroleum Dealers Association’s demands and warned of a possible suspension of transport services following a planned shutdown of petrol pumps. The All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Association said public transport operations could also come to a halt if fuel stations close at midnight. Association President Nadeem Hussain said the transport sector would support the petrol dealers’ stance against the government’s policy of fixing petrol and diesel prices on a daily basis. He demanded that the government withdraw the daily fuel pricing mechanism, saying it has created uncertainty and increased financial pressure on transport operators. Hussain said frequent changes in fuel prices directly affect transport businesses because fuel is one of the biggest operating costs for public transport owners. He warned that a continued increase in petroleum prices could further burden both transporters and passengers. The Pakistan Mini Mazda Goods Transport Association also announced its support for the strike call by petrol station owners. Association President Sher Ali Chaudhry said mini Mazda vehicles would stop operating from midnight as part of the protest against daily increases in petroleum prices. He criticized the government’s decision to revise fuel prices regularly, saying it has made it difficult for transporters to manage expenses and maintain their services. Chaudhry said rising fuel costs have severely affected the transport sector, increasing operational expenses and reducing the income of vehicle owners and drivers. Both transport associations urged the government to reconsider the current fuel pricing policy and take steps to provide relief to transporters.

Becky G opens up about embracing complicated ideas…

Becky G is entering a new chapter in her music career, and she is no longer interested in fitting herself into just one box. The Mexican-American singer, whose birth name is Rebbeca Marie Gomez, recently opened up about the personal ideas behind her fifth studio album, Baraja Bendita. Released on August 14, 2026, the 17-track project explores identity, culture, womanhood and the complicated experiences that have shaped her. (KUNC) For Becky, the album is about embracing every part of herself rather than choosing one identity over another. She has often described herself as being “200%” — both American and Mexican. That duality has influenced her career, from her language and music to the expectations placed on her as a Latina artist. With Baraja Bendita, she decided to make that complexity part of the story. In a recent interview, Becky explained that the album represents a meeting point between Becky G, the public performer, and Rebbeca, the person behind the stage name. She described the project as a personal collaboration between those two sides of herself. (KUNC) That honesty also appears in the subjects she tackles through her songs. One example is “EPA,” a track that addresses the difficult political climate surrounding Latino communities. Rather than avoiding uncomfortable subjects, Becky uses music to create a sense of joy and safety for people who may be dealing with uncertainty. She has emphasized that Latino communities deserve spaces where they can experience happiness, even when the world around them feels heavy. (HipLatina) Other songs explore more intimate sides of her identity. Tracks such as “CHULA” embrace confidence, sensuality and womanhood, while other songs move through vulnerability, relationships and emotional complexity. The album allows those different moods to exist together instead of forcing Becky into a single image. (FemMusic) That approach is especially meaningful for an artist who began working in entertainment as a teenager. After years of being publicly defined by her language, genre and cultural background, Becky now appears determined to define herself on her own terms. The album also moves freely between musical styles, including Latin, pop, electronic and urban influences. Becky has said she does not want to be restricted to one genre or language, embracing Spanglish as another natural part of who she is. (LOS40) Ultimately, Baraja Bendita is less about becoming a new Becky G and more about accepting the woman she has always been. Through complicated ideas, personal stories and cultural themes, she is showing listeners that identity does not have to be simple. Sometimes, the most honest version of yourself is made up of many different sides.

  • PML-N wins key refugee seat in Gujrat’s political backyard

GUJRAT: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Chaudhry Zeeshan Younas has officially won the LA-38 (Jammu-V) seat in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, a result that is being viewed as politically significant in Gujrat, where the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) maintains a strong political foothold. According to the official results, Zeeshan Younas secured 13,652 votes, defeating the Pakistan Muslim League (AJK) candidate Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim, who polled 9,523 votes. The constituency is one of the 12 refugee seats reserved for Jammu and Kashmir refugees residing in different districts of Punjab. The outcome has generated considerable political discussion in Gujrat as LA-38 falls within the political sphere of NA-63, represented in the National Assembly by PML-Q leader Hussain Elahi. The district is widely regarded as one of the strongest political bases of the Chaudhry family, with PML-Q also holding representation in the Punjab cabinet. During the election campaign, Hussain Elahi personally led the campaign for Chaudhry Akbar Ibrahim, addressing public meetings, corner gatherings and mobilising party workers across the constituency. Senior PML-Q leaders remained actively engaged in an effort to retain the seat. In response, the PML-N launched an extensive campaign led by Divisional President Chaudhry Abid Raza, District President Nawabzada Tahir-ul-Mulk, and Youth Wing Coordinator Chaudhry Ali Warraich, who remained active throughout the campaign by organising corner meetings, interacting with voters and coordinating election activities. Political analysts believe the result carries significance beyond the AJK elections, as it reflects the continuing political rivalry between PML-N and PML-Q in Gujrat. Despite PML-Q’s longstanding influence in the district and its representation in both the National Assembly and the Punjab government, PML-N managed to secure a convincing victory in the refugee constituency. Polling for LA-38 was held as part of the second phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections, during which voting took place on 21 constituencies. Of these, 12 refugee seats represent Jammu and Kashmir refugees settled in various districts of Punjab, while the remaining seats are located in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Following the announcement of the official results, PML-N workers celebrated the victory in different parts of Gujrat, describing it as an important political achievement in a district traditionally considered a stronghold of PML-Q. Political observers believe the result is likely to further intensify competition between the two parties in future electoral contests. The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has released the official results, confirming Chaudhry Zeeshan Younas as the returned candidate from LA-38 (Jammu-V).

Pakistan’s inflation falls to single digits in J…

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s inflation rate returned to single digits in July, offering some relief to consumers after remaining in double-digit territory for three consecutive months. According to the latest monthly inflation report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the annual inflation rate fell to 9.2% in July 2026, compared with 11.1% in June 2026 The latest figures mark a notable change in the country’s inflation trend as the new fiscal year began. Inflation had remained above the 10% mark throughout April, May and June 2026, but the rate dropped below double digits in July. The decline in the annual inflation rate indicates a slowdown in the pace at which prices increased compared with the same period last year. However, consumers continue to face pressure from the high cost of essential goods and household expenses. The July reading also reflects a month-on-month improvement in inflationary pressures, although the overall cost of living remains a major concern for households across the country. Economists and policymakers closely monitor inflation figures as they influence decisions on interest rates, economic policy and household purchasing power. A sustained decline in inflation could provide some relief to consumers and businesses, but the government will need to maintain price stability to ensure that the downward trend continues in the coming months.

    Pakistan unveils four-year Hajj policy

The government has introduced a four-year Hajj policy covering arrangements from 2027 to 2030. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf presented the policy on Wednesday. He described it as a major step toward improving and modernising Hajj arrangements in Pakistan. Speaking at a briefing, the minister said this was the first time the government had introduced a four-year Hajj policy. He said the initiative would provide a long-term framework for organising the pilgrimage. Yousaf said the policy had been prepared under the guidance of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. It focuses on technology, transparency and improved services for pilgrims. According to the minister, the new framework aims to bring Pakistan’s Hajj arrangements closer to international standards. It will also introduce several new facilities for pilgrims. For the first time, applicants will have access to a registration and waiting-list system. The government expects the system to make the process more organised and transparent. The minister said the government and private Hajj schemes would retain their existing quota division. Sixty per cent of the quota will remain with the government scheme, while private operators will receive 40 per cent. The Ministry of Religious Affairs will continue to oversee and regulate Hajj arrangements. It will also monitor the performance of private Hajj companies. Under the new policy, applicants will be able to enter the pilgrims’ list after paying 10 per cent of the required amount. The government has also planned greater transparency in procurement. Purchases made in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will be carried out through transparent procedures. Yousaf said any money remaining after meeting the required expenses would be returned to the pilgrims. The measure is aimed at improving financial transparency and protecting the interests of Hajj applicants. The government also plans to change the way private Hajj companies are monitored. Their registration and oversight will not depend only on the quota allocated to them. Instead, their performance will be an important factor in determining their registration and continued participation in the Hajj programme. A digital complaint-resolution system is also being introduced. Pilgrims will be able to submit complaints and seek quick action through the new system. An appeal mechanism will also be established. This will provide pilgrims with another channel to challenge decisions or seek resolution of their complaints. The minister said the government would also improve training programmes for Hajj pilgrims. The aim is to prepare pilgrims more effectively before their departure for Saudi Arabia. The Hajj Muhafiz Scheme will continue under the new policy. The government considers the scheme an important part of its arrangements for pilgrims. Yousaf said the new policy had been developed in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. The framework is intended to improve coordination and service delivery during the pilgrimage. The minister said the government’s objective was not limited to managing logistical arrangements. It also wanted to ensure that Pakistani pilgrims received a dignified and comfortable Hajj experience. The estimated cost of the government Hajj package is expected to remain between Rs1.2 million and Rs1.3 million. However, the final cost may depend on various arrangements and expenses associated with the pilgrimage. Yousaf also clarified that any increase or decrease in Pakistan’s Hajj quota would require a decision from the federal cabinet. He said Pakistan had received recognition and awards for its Hajj arrangements in the past. The government now wants to further improve the system through long-term planning and greater use of technology. The four-year policy is expected to provide greater continuity in Hajj preparations. Officials believe the long-term framework will also make planning easier for both the government and pilgrims.

Shah Rukh Khan’s King set for major box office clash in December

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action thriller King is gearing up for one of the biggest box office battles of the year as its scheduled December release places it alongside several highly anticipated Hollywood blockbusters. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is set to arrive in cinemas on December 24, a date that will also see the release of major international films including Avengers: Doomsday, Dune 3, and Jumanji: Open World. The crowded release window is expected to create intense competition both in India and overseas, making it one of the most closely watched clashes of the holiday season. Among the Hollywood titles, Avengers: Doomsday is widely expected to be the strongest rival. The Marvel franchise has built an enormous fan base in India over the years, with several of its previous films enjoying record-breaking openings and impressive box office collections. Its popularity could present a significant challenge for King, particularly when it comes to attracting audiences during the festive period. The competition is expected to be even tougher in international markets. With three major Hollywood franchises arriving simultaneously, exhibitors may face difficult decisions regarding screen allocation and show timings. Large-scale global releases often dominate multiplex schedules, leaving less room for other films, even those led by major stars. Despite these challenges, the makers of King have shown confidence in the film’s potential and have reportedly decided to stick with the planned release date. Rather than avoiding the clash, the production team appears determined to let the film compete head-to-head with some of the biggest releases of the year. Industry observers believe that only a project of King’s scale, backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s global popularity, has the ability to stand alongside such powerful Hollywood franchises. The actor remains one of India’s biggest box office draws, and expectations surrounding the film have continued to grow since its announcement. Adding to the excitement is the fact that King will mark the first full-fledged on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan. Fans are eager to see the father-daughter duo share screen space in what is expected to be a high-octane action entertainer. The film also boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Raghav Juyal, and Rani Mukerji in key roles, further raising anticipation among moviegoers. International distribution is being handled by Yash Raj Films, whose extensive global network and experience in releasing Indian films overseas could help maximize the film’s reach. Their expertise is expected to play an important role in securing favorable screens and show schedules across key international territories. As the countdown to December begins, King is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Whether it can hold its own against three major Hollywood franchises remains to be seen, but the film’s star power, large-scale production, and strong cast have positioned it as a formidable contender in what promises to be an exciting holiday box office showdown.
