Phetchaburi Ratchaburi highway opens to traffic
New four-lane highway opens between Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi
A new four-lane highway section has opened in Phetchaburi, improving transport links between Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi and providing better access to several western tourism areas.
The Department of Highways has completed work on Highways 3206 and 3510, covering the Ban Huai Yang Thon to Nong Ya Plong district junction route, Section 2, in Phetchaburi province.
Piyapong Jiwattanakulpaiboon, director-general of the Department of Highways under the Ministry of Transport, said the project was aimed at improving the efficiency of the highway network and preparing for future increases in traffic.
The project covers 11.425 kilometres and was completed with a budget of 649.382 million baht.
The road has been expanded from two lanes to four lanes, with two lanes in each direction. The route has also been upgraded to special highway standard, with lighting and safety equipment installed along the full length of the section.
Officials said the route is an important link between the western areas of Phetchaburi and Ratchaburi, particularly Nong Ya Plong, Kaeng Krachan and Suan Phueng districts.
The area is used by local residents, transport operators and visitors travelling to natural tourism destinations in the west of the two provinces.
The upgraded road is also expected to serve as an alternative western route for travel towards southern Thailand.
According to the Department of Highways, the new section will help improve journey times, road safety and the movement of goods in the area. It is also expected to help reduce transport costs for local residents and businesses.
The department said the route had become increasingly important due to heavier traffic volumes. The four-lane upgrade is intended to make travel more convenient and allow the road network to handle future demand more effectively.
The Department of Highways said the project forms part of its policy to develop a road network that is safer, faster and more convenient, while supporting long-term economic and social development.
