Police have arrested a close relative after a one-and-a-half-year-old girl died during treatment following an alleged sexual assault in Karachi’s Qayyumabad area.

According to police officials, the incident came to light after an emergency call was received, prompting officers to reach the scene and begin an investigation.

Family members told investigators that the suspect, who is a close relative of the child, had taken the toddler outside for a walk. When she was brought home, she was reportedly in critical condition. The child was immediately shifted to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries despite medical efforts to save her.

A doctor involved in the case said the initial medical assessment indicated signs consistent with sexual assault. However, authorities said the final cause and nature of the injuries will be determined after the completion of the medico-legal examination and forensic reports.

Following the preliminary investigation, police arrested the suspect from his residence in Karachi. The accused remains in custody, and investigators are questioning him as part of the ongoing probe.

Law enforcement officials said evidence is being collected and statements from family members and other witnesses are being recorded. Further legal action will depend on the findings of the medical and forensic examinations.

The child’s funeral prayers were offered before she was laid to rest at a local cemetery in Karachi.

Police said the investigation is continuing and assured that the case will be pursued in accordance with the law. The incident has drawn widespread concern, with calls for a thorough investigation and strict action against anyone found responsible.

Ayeza Khan and Danish Taimoor spark divorce rumours

Ayeza Khan, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated television actresses, has once again found herself at the centre of public attention following a social media post that has sparked speculation about her marriage to actor Danish Taimoor. Ayeza is widely admired for her performances in popular dramas including Pyarey Afzal, Mere Paas Tum Ho, Chupke Chupke, and Mein. She is married to Danish Taimoor, one of Pakistan’s most popular male television stars. Danish has recently been enjoying a successful run on television, with several of his projects receiving strong audience responses and achieving impressive viewership figures. While Danish continues to appear in major projects, Ayeza has currently taken a break from acting. Recently, Danish celebrated the finale of his hit drama Humrahi with a special screening at Nueplex Cinema in Karachi. However, fans quickly noticed that Ayeza was not present at the event. Her absence attracted further attention because the couple also did not publicly celebrate their Nikah anniversary on August 8. Neither Ayeza nor Danish appeared to share a post publicly wishing each other on the occasion, prompting some social media users to question whether everything was well between the two. The speculation grew after Ayeza shared a new black-and-white photograph on social media. In the picture, the actress appeared in a nightgown with a serious and expressionless look. She covered both of her ears with her hands while posing in a dramatic and seemingly detached manner. Although Ayeza did not directly mention her marriage or Danish in the post, its timing and intense imagery led some followers to interpret it as a possible message about her personal life. Several fans began discussing the possibility of problems between the couple, while others urged people not to draw conclusions based solely on social media activity. Some users also pointed out that the couple did not appear to share family photographs around August 14, another date associated with their wedding celebrations. A few followers connected this absence with Ayeza’s decision not to attend the Humrahi finale screening. Amid the growing discussion, some social media users went as far as suggesting that Ayeza and Danish could be considering separation. Others speculated that Danish might be distancing himself from his wife, while some interpreted Ayeza’s recent post as a sign that she was choosing to focus on herself. However, neither Ayeza Khan nor Danish Taimoor has confirmed any issues in their marriage. The divorce rumours currently remain unverified speculation based largely on their social media activity, public appearances, and fans’ interpretations. For now, the couple has not made any official statement addressing the rumours, leaving fans waiting for clarification about the situation.

Hungary shuts only nuclear plant amid drought

BUDAPEST: Hungary has taken the unprecedented step of shutting down its only nuclear power plant after severe drought pushed the Danube River to critically low levels, threatening the facility’s ability to safely cool its reactors and raising fears of an energy crisis during an intense summer heatwave. The closure of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant marks the first complete shutdown in the facility’s 44-year history. The plant, which typically supplies between one-third and 40 percent of Hungary’s electricity, has been forced offline as water levels in the Danube continue to fall amid one of Central Europe’s worst droughts in recent decades. Prime Minister Peter Magyar warned that the country now faces its “most critical five days,” with temperatures expected to climb to around 40 degrees Celsius just as electricity demand peaks. In a video message shared on social media, Magyar said the shutdown would place enormous pressure on Hungary’s electricity grid, public services and essential infrastructure. “Tomorrow, the Paks power plant will not be generating, while the hottest days are still ahead,” he said, urging citizens and businesses to reduce electricity consumption during evening peak hours between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. The 2-gigawatt facility operates four Russian-built reactors that rely on water from the Danube for cooling. With river levels dropping to record lows, authorities determined that continuing operations could compromise reactor safety. Officials have also warned that the plant could remain offline for several weeks if weather conditions fail to improve. The drought has affected more than just power generation. Falling water levels have disrupted river transport, slowed tourism and prompted water-use restrictions in over 100 cities and villages, including areas surrounding Budapest. To maintain electricity supplies, Hungary has begun importing emergency power from neighboring countries while considering additional measures to stabilize the grid. The government is also weighing mandatory electricity restrictions for large industrial consumers if conditions worsen. Officials estimate the crisis could cost the country between 100 billion and 200 billion forints (approximately $315 million to $630 million) because of soaring electricity import prices. Climate experts say the situation highlights the growing vulnerability of Europe’s energy infrastructure to extreme weather events linked to climate change. Nuclear power plants across the continent depend on rivers and lakes for cooling, making prolonged droughts an increasingly serious operational challenge. For now, authorities remain focused on conserving electricity and closely monitoring the Danube’s water levels. With scorching temperatures forecast to continue, Hungary faces a difficult balancing act between ensuring public safety, maintaining energy security and managing one of the country’s most severe climate-related emergencies in decades.

Ariana Grande’s Petal visuals ignite concern over her health

The release of Ariana Grande’s latest music video for the title track of her new album, Petal, has sparked an emotional conversation online, with fans praising its powerful message while also expressing deep concern over the singer’s appearance. The music video, which explores themes of identity, self-acceptance and breaking free from constant public judgment, portrays Grande as someone living under relentless scrutiny. Throughout the visuals, she reflects on the pressure of meeting expectations from critics, the media and even her own fans. While many viewers connected with the emotional storytelling and vulnerable lyrics, one particular scene quickly became the focus of widespread discussion. Several fans pointed to close-up shots in which Grande appeared noticeably thinner than before, saying the visuals were difficult to watch. Instead of discussing the song’s message, social media users began debating the singer’s physical health and wellbeing. The reaction quickly spread across platforms, with thousands of fans posting messages urging the pop star to prioritize her health and take care of herself. Many expressed sadness rather than criticism, saying they hoped Grande was surrounded by people who genuinely supported her. The conversation soon extended beyond fans, with celebrities also sharing their concerns. Actress and activist Jameela Jamil publicly reacted to the music video, saying she was worried about Grande’s wellbeing and questioned whether the imagery should have been presented in that way. Model and body positivity advocate Charli Howard also commented on the visuals, posting a clip from the video on social media alongside a lengthy message discussing body image, public pressure and the responsibility of the entertainment industry. The intense online discussion surrounding Grande’s appearance eventually coincided with another major announcement. The singer confirmed that she plans to step away from the public spotlight after completing her ongoing Eternal Sunshine Tour. According to a statement released by her representative, Grande will take a break from public appearances once the tour concludes. The statement explained that she wants to finish the tour on a positive note before enjoying a well-earned period away from constant public attention. Her representative also noted that the singer has cherished every moment of performing for fans during the tour but has endured years of continuous public scrutiny. The upcoming hiatus is intended to allow her time to rest and focus on herself after completing her professional commitments. The announcement received mixed reactions online. Many fans applauded Grande’s decision, calling it a necessary step after years of intense media attention and demanding work schedules. Others continued speculating about her health, asking whether there was an underlying reason behind her noticeably slimmer appearance. Grande has long been recognized for her petite frame and youthful appearance. However, many fans believe her weight has changed significantly over the past few years. Public discussion around her appearance became especially prominent during the filming and promotional campaign for Wicked: For Good, with social media users frequently commenting on her body. Those conversations often fueled online speculation, with some people attempting to link her appearance to different aspects of her personal or professional life. However, none of those claims have been confirmed, and Grande herself has not publicly explained the reason for any changes in her weight. As a result, numerous theories have circulated online, including speculation about the pressures faced by performers in the entertainment industry. Still, there is no verified evidence supporting these claims, and any assumptions about Grande’s health remain unconfirmed. Despite the concern surrounding her recent appearance and temporary break from public life, Grande’s career continues to move forward. Fans can next see the Grammy-winning singer on the big screen in Focker-in-Law, where she stars alongside Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller. The highly anticipated comedy is scheduled to arrive in theatres on November 25, 2026. For now, many of Grande’s supporters hope her planned hiatus will provide the privacy and rest she has requested, while allowing attention to eventually return to the music and message behind Petal rather than ongoing speculation about her personal health.
