Sam Ao Legends festival set for 27–29 March in Prachuap
The Sam Ao Legends cultural festival will take place from 27 to 29 March at King Rama IX Commemorative Park in front of Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Hall, with free entry offered throughout the three-day event.
Preparations were reviewed on 23 March during a planning meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Preeda Sukjai at the provincial hall. Provincial Tourism and Sports Officer Lt. Sitthichai Tantasit, heads of government departments and representatives from related agencies attended as officials finalised arrangements for the festival.
The Sam Ao Legends event aims to showcase Prachuap Khiri Khan’s multicultural identity, promote local tourist attractions and support cultural tourism that can generate income for communities and businesses.
Cultural performances and exhibitions planned at Sam Ao Legends
Activities will be held across two main areas, the Halal Stage and the Multicultural Stage, with programmes beginning daily from 4pm.
Highlights on the Halal Stage include Anasheed singing performances, Halal Talk discussions, demonstrations of traditional food preparation and cultural showcases such as a Muslim nikah wedding role-play, Qur’an recitation sessions and Pencak Silat martial arts displays.
Meanwhile, the Multicultural Stage will feature performances including khon masked dance drama, Karen (Pga K’nyau) shows from Pa Mak and Pa La-U, Thai Song Dam On Son dance, Nora dance from southern Thailand, nang talung shadow puppetry, lion dance displays, Muay Thai competitions and Chinese opera.
Visitors can also explore exhibitions and interactive displays across the event grounds, including a historical “Multicultural Sam Ao Time Gate” exhibition, showcases on pineapple and coconut production in the province, halal lifestyle displays and Sweet Heritage workshops on making traditional desserts. Food stalls, OTOP product vendors, decorative light installations and photo check-in points will also be available.
