The Traditional Sports & Games Pakistan Association (TSGPA) has officially appointed civil award recipient Mohsin Nawaz as its Official Sports Psychologist.

This marks the first time in Pakistan’s history that TSGPA has formally appointed a sports psychologist to support its national sporting contingent. The historic decision represents a significant structural shift in how Pakistan prepares its athletes for international multi-sport competitions, recognizing the vital role of mental preparation and psychological resilience alongside physical performance.

Nawaz, who was honored with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan, is also an official Brand Ambassador for Austrian-based Kahles Optics, South African-based Peregrine Bullets, and the HawkSmith Gun Club in DHA, Karachi. He brings a wealth of expertise in high-performance conditioning, stress control, and elite cognitive training. TSGPA highlighted that his extensive background in athlete performance management and psychological resilience was the primary catalyst behind his selection.

Following the announcement, TSGPA Chairman and Head of Delegation Mr. Nawab Furqan Khan, alongside President of Horseback Archery and Board Member of TSGPA, Aurangzeb Mubashar, formally welcomed Nawaz into the national contingent’s core leadership setup.

Sports officials emphasized that this marks the first time in Pakistan’s history that a dedicated sports body has embedded a qualified sports psychologist directly into its official administrative and coaching roster. While high-performance mental training and psychological preparation have long been standard protocols across mainstream international federations, the practice is a pioneering milestone for Pakistan’s traditional sports ecosystem.

Under his official mandate, Nawaz will formulate, build, and execute structured sports psychology programs for TSGPA athletes. His core focus will center on performance optimization, maintaining composure under intense pressure, focus retention, and confidence-building frameworks tailored specifically for high-stakes international platforms. Additionally, Nawaz will collaborate directly with athletes, coaches, and technical officials on mental well-being initiatives while helping structure team dynamics ahead of major domestic and international events.

This strategic development comes at a pivotal moment as Pakistan finalizes preparations to send a 100-member national contingent, spanning 23 competitive sports disciplines, to the upcoming 6th World Nomad Games 2026. Often referred to as the “Olympics of traditional sports,” the World Nomad Games bring together thousands of athletes from 106 countries competing in historical, culturally rooted sports. The NBP has stepped forward as the official corporate sponsor for the Horseback Archery team and Pakistan’s participation in the World Nomad Games.

Pakistan’s horseback archery squad will feature four premier athletes, Arham Ahsan, Gohar Mustafa, Arshaq Naeem, and Aamina Shifa, alongside Rehana Altaf, who complete the competitive team lineup representing the nation in this high-precision equestrian discipline.

“Pakistan’s participation in the World Nomad Games is an important opportunity to showcase our indigenous sporting talent, strengthen international relations, and present a positive soft image on the global stage,” stated TSGPA Chairman Nawab Furqan Khan. “Integrating a scientific approach to mental health and performance preparation ensures that our athletes are supported holistically, both physically and mentally, to face the pressure of world-class competition.”

Beyond competitive participation across disciplines like belt wrestling, horseback archery, and traditional strength sports, the Pakistan contingent will feature showcase demonstrations of traditional heritage, including Kabaddi, Kite Flying, Desi Kushti (demonstrated by Sajjad Hussain Awan), and Naiza Bazi (demonstrated by equestrian athlete Aurangzeb Mubashar).

With Deputy Director General Mr. Muhammad Shahid serving as Chef de Mission and Chairman Nawab Furqan Khan leading the delegation, TSGPA’s scientific shift toward comprehensive mental preparation and corporate partnerships sets a strong precedent for traditional sports management across the country.

Pakistan won the match by eight wickets, securing an away Test victory after a wait of more than three years and levelling the two-match series 1-1. Babar made a significant contribution in the decisive match, scoring 88 runs in Pakistan’s first innings before finishing unbeaten on 24 during the successful chase. He also climbed five spots to 32nd in the Test all-rounders’ rankings. At the top of the batting chart, Australia’s Travis Head retained the No. 1 position, while India’s Jasprit Bumrah remained the leading Test bowler. India’s Ravindra Jadeja continued to dominate the Test all-rounders’ rankings. Babar’s return to the top 10 gives Pakistan another reason for optimism, while Shafique’s rapid rise underlines the growing depth of the team’s batting options.

    UEFA welcomes FIFA investment plan withdrawal

    UEFA has welcomed FIFA’s decision to abandon its controversial private investment proposal, calling the move “a victory for the whole game” while declaring that it has lost confidence in FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s leadership. The governing body for European football made the remarks after FIFA officially scrapped plans to sell stakes in its competitions following widespread opposition from football associations around the world. On August 1, FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that the proposal to bring private investors into FIFA tournaments had been withdrawn after facing intense backlash and threats of a boycott. The plan had sparked strong criticism from UEFA, which argued that football’s global competitions should not be treated as commercial assets. Before the proposal was abandoned, UEFA had firmly opposed the idea, stating: “Football is not FIFA’s to sell.” Following FIFA’s decision to withdraw the proposal, UEFA issued another strongly worded statement welcoming the outcome while criticising Infantino’s leadership. The statement read: “The current FIFA leadership has not only lost UEFA’s confidence but also that of many other members of the football family.” UEFA also reminded members of the promises Infantino made when he first sought election as FIFA president in 2016. Quoting his campaign pledge, the organisation said: “When Gianni Infantino asked for the trust and the votes of FIFA’s member associations to elect him as their president in 2016, he said: ‘Of course we have to be transparent.’” The European governing body accused Infantino of failing to live up to that commitment, claiming he had handled FIFA’s finances without sufficient transparency and had treated the organisation’s money as though it belonged to him personally. The controversy began on July 29, when Infantino reportedly offered each of FIFA’s 211 member associations$40 million in exchange for supporting a proposal that would allow private investment in FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s World Cups. UEFA responded swiftly by announcing it would boycott future World Cups if the proposal moved forward. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) also declared that it “stands in solidarity” with UEFA and Concacaf, adding further pressure on FIFA to reconsider the plan. The criticism did not stop there. FIFA chief operating officer Kevin Lamour reportedly admitted that the organisation’s own administration had been “deceived” about the investment project. Meanwhile, FIFA senior adviser on global strategy and governance Carlos Cordeiro resigned over the proposal, describing it as: “A bad deal for football” He also warned that it would: “Mortgage football’s future.” The episode has created fresh uncertainty around Infantino’s leadership ahead of FIFA’s next presidential election. Infantino, who was first elected FIFA president in 2016 after defeating AFC president Sheikh Salman al-Khalifa by 115 votes to 88, is expected to seek another term. FIFA’s next president will be confirmed at the organisation’s 77th Congress in Morocco next March, with candidates required to submit their nominations by November 18.

Thitikul sank seven birdies in a faultless round, including three straight birdies on the front nine and difficult par saves. “Winning one [major] doesn’t mean I am going to have a really good, successful career,” Thitikul said. “Winning one doesn’t mean much, I would rather be a consistent player, more than just winning one and then gone. Sometimes I had a hard time dealing with all the noise.” South Korea’s Haeran Ryu, aiming to become only the fifth woman in history to claim three majors in a calendar year, is tied for second alongside Japan’s Shiho Kuwaki on five under. Ryu, 25, claimed her second major in the space of two weeks at the Evian Championship earlier this month. That form continued as four birdies on the front nine quickly took her to the top of the leaderboard. Despite a bogey on the 15th, Ryu finished with two birdies in the last three holes. England’s Lottie Woad and Charley Hull are both on two under, while compatriot Alice Hewson led the tournament in the morning and finished one under.     MULTAN: Shaheen Shah Afridi produced a match-winning bowling performance as Pakistan Gold defeated Pakistan Whites by five wickets to book their place in the National Champions Cup 2026 final at Multan Cricket Stadium. Chasing 173, Gold reached their target in just 28 overs, although they lost five wickets along the way. Haider Ali led the chase with an impressive 69 off 48 balls, smashing seven fours and three sixes in an aggressive innings. The victory was particularly striking because Gold had entered the match after suffering two defeats and sitting at the bottom of the table. Their superior net run rate, however, kept their qualification hopes alive, and they capitalised when it mattered most. Gold faced early trouble during the chase, slipping to 61-3 after 10 overs.
