Under the new policy, raw polysilicon is set at a minimum price floor of $21 per kilogram, while polysilicon ingots and wafers are capped at a floor of $100 per kilogram. Solar cells face a minimum price of $0.22 per watt, and finished solar modules or panels carry a minimum threshold of $0.38 per watt. The order also directs the Commerce Department to establish targeted incentive programs for domestic companies investing in polysilicon production facilities. While semiconductor manufacturing accounts for roughly 2.4 per cent of global polysilicon demand, the material’s economic viability depends directly on the volume scale maintained by solar manufacturing. US solar manufacturers and polysilicon producers, including Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor, Wacker Chemie, First Solar, and Qcells, welcomed the strategic protections as essential for safeguarding domestic supply chains necessary for advanced computing and renewable energy. The new trade protections take effect on 4 December 2026, granting buyers a four-month window to adjust existing supply contracts before the higher price thresholds apply.

    Cher ordered to pay over $1 million in legal fees

The dispute centred on whether Cher’s contractual rights established through the divorce agreement could continue despite copyright termination provisions. Cher maintained that the divorce settlement remained valid and enforceable, while Mary Bono challenged those claims. In May 2024, the court ruled in Cher’s favour on the central issue. The judge found that she was entitled to unpaid royalty payments and awarded her more than $418,000 in damages for royalties that had been withheld. Following that victory, Cher sought to recover the legal costs she had accumulated while pursuing the case. In January 2026, she filed a request asking the court to award her $1,023,605.30 in attorney’s fees. Her legal team argued that the case involved a common set of facts across multiple claims and counterclaims, making it unnecessary to separate the legal costs for each issue individually. They also contended that any work related to Mary Bono’s partially successful counterclaim represented only a minimal portion of the overall litigation. However, the judge rejected Cher’s request for attorney’s fees in a ruling issued on July 17. The court concluded that the case was fundamentally a contract dispute rather than one arising under federal copyright law. Because of that distinction, the judge determined that Cher was not entitled to recover her legal expenses from the opposing side. As a result of the ruling, Cher will have to cover more than $1 million in attorney’s fees herself, despite winning the underlying royalties dispute. Court filings also indicated that approximately $10,000 in additional legal costs was expected to be incurred for her representation. The case marks the latest chapter in a years-long legal battle involving the financial legacy of Sonny & Cher, one of the most influential entertainment duos of the 1960s and 1970s. Cher and Sonny Bono rose to international fame with a string of hit songs before expanding into television with The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, which became one of the era’s most popular variety shows. Eight detained in Nablus In Nablus, Israeli forces entered the Ras al-Ain neighbourhood and stormed three buildings. Soldiers searched several homes before detaining eight Palestinians, including a woman, local sources said. The operation reportedly involved searches of residential properties, with residents subjected to questioning before the detainees were taken away. The raid was part of a wider military campaign across the northern West Bank, where Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out overnight and early-morning operations. Raids reported in Tubas and Jenin In Tubas province, Israeli troops entered the town of Tammun and remained there for several hours before withdrawing. No arrests were reported from the operation. Meanwhile, in the Jenin area, Israeli forces entered Al-Yamoun, where they arrested a former Palestinian prisoner from Jenin city. Another Palestinian was detained in Deir Ghazaleh, located northeast of Jenin, according to local sources. The arrests added to growing concerns over the continuing military pressure on Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank. More arrests in Tulkarm Further arrests were reported in the Tulkarm area. Israeli forces detained a Palestinian customs police officer and a young man from Irtah, a suburb south of Tulkarm. Two other Palestinians were also arrested following raids and searches of homes in the village of Far’un. The latest operations come against a backdrop of escalating violence in the West Bank. Reuters reported this week that Palestinian residents have described mounting pressure from military raids and settler attacks, warning that the situation is approaching a breaking point. At the same time, reports of demolitions have added another layer to the tensions. Anadolu Agency reported that three Palestinian homes were demolished during the wider military campaign, with Israeli authorities citing claims related to construction permits. The developments are likely to fuel further concern over the security and humanitarian situation in the occupied West Bank, where repeated raids, arrests, demolitions and clashes have continued to affect Palestinian communities.
