Here’s google Pixel 12 Pro Fold could match iPhone Ultra in one key way
Google’s next foldable phone, the Pixel 12 Pro Fold, has been tipped to emulate the iPhone Ultra where one key component is concerned.
While the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a solid foldable, it feels a little behind the times. Half-baked HiLight system aside, it’s scarcely any different to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which already felt a little hefty compared to the competition.
Google may be looking to move things forward with the follow-up, if industry rumours from South Korea are to be believed. The Elec claims that Google – together with rivals/partners Oppo and Vivo – are looking to adopt dual ultra-thin glass (UTG) structures for their next generation of foldables.
Apple will be the first to utilise this screen technology when it launches the iPhone Ultra next week.

Following Apple’s lead
The approach places one sheet of UTG above the OLED panel and another below. The long and short of it is that this dual approach, with each layer sporting different properties, reduces the visibility of the crease on the display above the hinge.
Now Samsung Display is said to be producing dual-UTG OLED prototypes specifically tailored to Google’s specifications, with mass production set for next year.
That’s interesting, because Samsung itself adopted a different approach to reducing the crease on its latest Galaxy Z Fold 8 phones. Those foldables employed a titanium alloy film and plate under the OLED panel for rigidity.
It’ll be interesting to see which approach produces better results in 2027 – and if that’s the extent of Google’s meaningful changes for its next foldable.
