Samsung Galaxy phones hit with battery life drop after One UI 9 update
Samsung has recently begun rolling out One UI 9, which is based on Android 17, to older Galaxy mobiles. Some users have reported that it’s causing battery life issues.
According to Phone Arena, one Galaxy S24 Ultra owner reported that battery level dropped by 95 per cent in just over five hours, even though the screen had only been active for three hours and 15 minutes. Others describe the battery draining unusually quickly even when the phone is not in use.
Similar complaints have emerged from owners of the Galaxy S25 series as well. Samsung’s support forum contains numerous complaints specifically about battery life in One UI 9. One user, for example, stated that the phone now needs to be charged three to four times a day.
At the same time, there are many users who have not noticed any deterioration. The reports are limited so far, and it hasn’t been established whether the problems share a common cause.

Samsung has not yet publicly confirmed any general battery fault linked to One UI 9.
If your battery life has deteriorated following the update, it may be worth restarting your phone and checking which apps are using the most power in the battery settings. If problems persist, it may also be worth backing up your data and factory resetting your phone.
Also bear in mind that a major system update may temporarily have a negative impact on battery consumption while apps and system data are being processed in the background. This usually resolves itself once everything is complete.
