“Call me crazy, but I prefer this over the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. You simply can’t use the Bugatti nor remotely explore the limits. This Prelude you can drive at 10/10 and have a blast. Driving a slow car fast is more appealing and easily doable during everyday driving.”

“What a wonderful surprise to see John’s Outlaw 356 here on BaT!
I met John at Amelia Island when he brought the car to the Concours Show.
He was spending time with my old pal, Jean Jennings (Jean Knows Cars) whom I had met years earlier at the Hilton Head Concours Show when we spent the day together with Jay Ward (Pixar)
What a great memory…
This example is obviously one of the best builds I have ever seen and my best to John and all the folks who made it possible.

“1st real job at the age of 15 in North Hollywood CA was pumping gas at the Texaco station. Sky Chief (the premium blend) was 29.9¢ per gallon, and I’d check your oil and tire pressure and clean your windshield, if you wanted. I still remember the guy in the ‘56 Chevy that let me struggle for a while trying to find the gas cap. He finally laughed and told me to try opening the driver’s side tail light. Good times.”

“Any compact two door wagon is cool in its own right and being a Stude ensures it’ll be the only one anywhere it goes. What’s most unique and exciting about this rarity though is the engine build. I had no idea there was an array of speed equipment for the flathead six, particularly to the level of a high compression aluminum head. Reading the attached Cathcart article (from 1999!) suggests at least 140HP from this little 169ci flattie. It’s got to be a light car, I’m guessing under 3K lbs…”

“I owned two 1976 Trans Ams back in the ’80s and ’90s: a 400 4spd and a 455 4spd. They are really special cars. I often notice TA owners leave the shaker hood scoops sealed, and I wonder why. It takes a few minutes to remove the plate and the intake noise completely changes the driving experience and adds some power. My friends would ask me to get on it just so they could hear the roar from the shaker scoop which sounded like it would suck in animals and small children if they were too close.…”

“The previous owner was a good friend of mine that has now gone to the garage in the sky. Seeing this brings up some great memories and I like to think he’s watching the auction from above. This was his final sale before he passed, he was pretty much in his last days during the auction. I was so pleased the auction went so well for him at the time. “I was 13, accompanying my dad when he drove his ’76 308 GTB Vetroresina to Los Gatos Ferrari for a service appointment. I wandered into the showroom, saw the F355’s… and right smack dab in the middle of the room was this car. Not this exact same one, but an Azure Blue-over-Magnolia Esprit V8. I had never even heard of Lotus before that moment, but I was mesmerized. I sat in the driver’s seat, smelled the leather, saw the red V8 in back… and suddenly forgot that I was surrounded by yellow…”

“Reviewing the Marti Report on this beautiful F250 it appears that Teague Ford ordered it without a rear bumper. That was typical with Ford dealers in rural eastern Washington areas like Walla Walla. The factory installed rear bumpers offered by Ford at the time were considered inadequate for the kind of heavy duty usage intended by many customers – who were often farmers. Most often dealers in the area ordered pickups without rear bumpers to allow customers to select their preferred style from…”

“That Sport Top is an incredibly rare accessory. Not many were sold and few have survived in good condition. I’ve only seen one other intact one. The Model Prefix indicates it was built as a Utility trimmed Travel Top but somewhere along the line, the bulkhead and Sport Top were added. I wonder if it was the original owner. Interesting 800!”
