“I worked for AMC/Renault during development of this vehicle. Renault engineers would trailer them out to MIS (where I worked) and we would run top speed over and over and over after component and tuning changes. I don’t recall the top speed. I do remember that they would huddle around and discuss the current results and then ask us to make a change – then they would look at me and say, ‘encore, s’il vous plait”. It was a dirty job but someone had to do it.”

“In the world of VW owners who loved their sporty cars in the 1980s there will always be Golf/GTI owners and Scirocco owners. I was very proudly the latter.
I am a 3x Scirocco loyalist and owned a 1977, a 1982, and lastly a 1988 16v. To me the Scirocco stood apart from the rest of the VW lineup and the styling was a huge draw to it. “These Z71’s were tanks! Had a white 2003 (ironically bought it from original owner in Scarsdale as well!!). It was unfortunately totaled when my wife got into a bad accident with it the day after Xmas 2020. Rolled 3 times, but that roof rack saved her as it remained fairly intact.”

The dealership marked $5k off all of them on the windshield and had a $500 bonus commission for the salespeople if they could sell them. “Wow! What a lovely monster! Given there are more dirt roads than paved in Nevada and given the fact this truck has been driven 220K miles, it is obvious that whoever owned the truck loved it enough to take meticulously good care of it. I keep telling myself I don’t need a truck this big but every time I look at the photos I have this irrational desire to hit the “bid” button!”

“@200mph Garner actually drove while shooting the Grand Prix and in the Rockford Files. The F1 drivers at the time said that he could have been a professional driver and he drove the Firebird during stunts (ex. J-Turns) better than the professionals, so they let him do it. Even with 2 bad knees.”
