Here’s bYD’s Qin Max flash-charging sedan to launch on August 13
- The Qin Max is the flagship of the Qin family, positioned above the Qin L, and supports BYD’s latest flash-charging technology.
- Sales of the Qin series have fallen sharply this year, with 162,291 units delivered in January-July, down 50.55 percent year-on-year.
BYD (HKEX: 1211) said its all-new B-segment sedan, the Qin Max, will go on sale on August 13, with the launch event starting at 7:30 pm that day.
The company announced the plan on Weibo on Wednesday, wrapping up a teaser campaign that has run for nearly a month.
The Qin Max is the flagship of BYD’s hot-selling Qin family, positioned above the Qin L and aimed mainly at younger consumers.
Lu Tian, general manager of the sales division of BYD’s Dynasty network, first teased the model on July 13, calling it the Qin family’s “super large cup.”
He subsequently released official images of the car’s light pink exterior and an interior color called “Dawn Purple,” with display units arriving at stores from late July.
The new model comes with BYD’s flash-charging technology as well as the God’s Eye B driver assistance system.
Flash charging is BYD’s name for its ultra-fast charging technology. In March this year, the company unveiled a new-generation solution with a peak single-gun charging power of 1,500 kW.
According to the company, vehicles equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery can be charged from 10 percent to 97 percent in nine minutes.
The Qin Max has already appeared in a filing catalog from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), in both all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
The car is 4,866 mm long, 1,880 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, making it slightly larger than the Qin L.
The all-electric version has a motor with a peak power of 240 kW (322 hp) or 120 kW, while the plug-in hybrid version pairs a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a 175 kW motor.
The filing information also shows that the all-electric version can be optioned with “Da Qin” or “Qin Ultra” badging.
The Qin family currently consists of the Qin Plus and the Qin L, both offered in all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions. The Qin Max will expand the lineup to three models.
The Qin series sold 661,090 units in 2025, making it one of BYD’s best-selling model families, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.
The series has weakened markedly this year, however. It sold 13,117 units in July, down 75.67 percent year-on-year, and 162,291 units in January-July, down 50.55 percent.
The Qin Max launch is part of a recent wave of new models from BYD. On August 11, the company launched the 2027 Seal 06 sedan in its Ocean lineup.
