A few of the comments that stood out to us yesterday:

“Son of the late owner here. My dad found and imported this car (and a few others, including the recent Woodie Fiat Topolino on BaT). He had a collection of several dozen vintage European cars, including many Ferraris, Alfa’s, Lancia, Fiats, Porsches, etc. He was a perfectionist when it came to cars and became more interested in hot rods like this one as time went on because they were more fun to drive on the gorgeous NY back roads. “I just want to say that this car has brought so many good moments to my husband and I through the years. So many shout outs……fun at car shows…..he drove it to our wedding….we rode home in it after. It’s been a part of most of our life celebrations in some way. He passed away this year and it feels time to let someone else make a memory with it. Whomever gets it, I hope you enjoy it as much as we have ❤️”

So while we were setting up Rally 1
Mike Z who ran the Saleen shop floor set up a red door complete with gurney bubble on a small dolly door stand. For display and option for people coming to have your door converted.
Of course vin 1314 / signature car owner / Me wanted it that day to swap on my red car for the event!
The door was display only because it was a blemish / defect door and not complete , hence the parts missing on this door!
I think Bony had the first bubble after Gurney…”

People obviously differ regarding what they want from a car, but for me, it really doesn’t get much better than this among modern cars. “In the summer of 1971, my parents took my brother, sister and me across country in a 67 Camaro 327 Sport Coupe towing a U-Haul covered trailer from Los Angeles to New Jersey. We were 13, 11 and 6 years old and it was tight back there, but an adventure. So yeah, people put a hitch on anything with a V8 back in the day. Beautiful car. I can’t help but wonder if someone will go stock, or create a Bullitt clone.”

“In the spring of 1969, I was at Stark Hickey Ford, 7 Mile and Grand River in Detroit getting my 1969 Mach 1 serviced. At the same time, a new Boss 9 was rolling off the car hauler and into the service bay isle. Black Jade. Everything stopped for a few minutes as every Tech in the dealership came over to check out that magnificent vehicle. Good times.”

“As a restorer of over 100 vintage trailers I can comment on the lack of a bathroom. As I understand it, many states banned full bathrooms in trailers until 1953. That was due to fears that people would just let them dump to the ground in parks, so the intention was to have them use bath houses at the campground or park. If they did have a toilet, they didn’t have holding tanks, they had to be hooked to a sewer system… mostly designed as park models that were semi-permanently set. Toilets…”

“I’ve owned my S1 since 1979, worked as a mechanic at a Lotus dealer 1972 – 1974. When I drive and park my Elan in Elkhart Lake, it draws a crowd. Driving the back roads around Elkhart along with the old race track is such a pleasure, little to no traffic, no semi’s. Life is good with a Lotus Elan.”
