“I was a teenager HS student working at the corner service station. We had a local Dr that had one of these, his was the beautiful dark blue with matching padded top. He would pull in for gas, 27 gallon tank. After putting the car in “Park” he would tilt the wheel which would almost go horizontal on these and throw a small towel that covered the wheel from rim edge to edge. Gas up. The history of the car is so well documented. Jan wanted a factory car and Al new Dr. Falk from the early days of the FOC and when the car came up it was a good fit.
I did go to Luppi personally while on a trip to Italy in 2003 to get the materials for the interior.
Reading through this listing brings back a lot of great memories.

What perhaps doesn’t come through in the videos is all the audible feedback. The boost comes on hard when the hammer is down, yet seems controlled when the throttle is feathered in a turn. “I bought this car intending to enjoy driving it, and I did. I’ve owned this Viper since April 2000 and have kept it longer than any other car I’ve owned. It has spent its life just south of Houston. I’ve enjoyed it enormously over the past 26 years, including four driving schools and 5-6 autocross events. I’m selling it because I’m almost 70 and the Viper has become harder for me to get in and out of and to drive without pain (2 surgeries on the ball of my left foot). I hope its next owner…”

“My dad had one of these back in the day. The drivetrain was something else. We owned it to about 250k miles before selling it on the original clutch, transmission, turbo, head gasket, diffs, etc. It’d been chip tuned the whole time to almost 300hp for most of that.
Not that it was cheap or easy to keep the rest of the car in shape around that drivetrain….but still, this was Audi at its best.”
