“In the 70’s my Dad owned/operated a MB repair garage in CA. I used to work with him off/on to assist. His biggest job was a 300 SL roadster a client brought in to have the engine, transmission and differential rebuilt prior to shipping the car off to do the complete renovation. When my Dad completed all of the mechanical work, he asked if I’d like to take the SL out for its first test drive. I was surprised and happy to. I took it easy, went through the gears and put about 5 miles on it.…”

“This is a staggering amount of engineering. To the casual observer it will be hard to detect as the person / team that did this, did it to an OEM standard where you can’t tell where the custom parts start and stop.
Just getting the new long block into the correct position (clears the hood, cross member, firewall, etc.) is hours of trial and error, design work and then fabricating. Then there are all the ancillary items that have to fitted, plumbed and wired, shift linkage, gauges, drive…”

“I saw a red one at a car show in Woodley Park: I thought this was such a beautiful car
I asked the owner if he would sell it: he said $65K
I told him I would think about it: you know how that goes: this was around 1985
Well many years later: I bought a white one LHD at the Gooding auction for a little over
$300,000: a record price at that time
All my car friends said what a stupid purchase!!!
6 months later there was on on the cover of Sports Car magazine that sold for $1.1 million in yellow…”

Kudos to the seller for showing us what this thing can really do.. Here’s a rig that cuts through all pretense with unapologetic utility. Mainstream automakers take note.”

Forgive me for recycling one of my comments from 2014, which I hope is appropriate and appreciated again:

“In 1967, my dad informed me that he had purchased, with my savings, 1960 Falcon with 60K miles for $325.00.
While it would not have been my choice, I was excited to enter the world of independence from walking, bicycling and public transportation.
The 144 ci engine didn’t last long with my heavy foot and the constant diet of re-refined oil I fed it from our local Site gas station.
