“This was the first car I ever bought new from a dealer when I was 20. I was driving a beat up old Ford F150 with bad linkage that I had bought for $150. The dealer offered a $5k of discount for anything you could push pull or drag in, so the Ford made his last journey.
My father had a terminal diagnosis at the time and provided the remaining $10k needed to make sure his little girl would have a new car after he was gone.

I was hired by Hooters at the start of the 92 season to take the car to many of the Hooters restaurants for display. “Ford used the turbo fours in the mid-80’s to position themselves for higher gas prices. Fantastic, future-focused cars like the Mustang SVO, Merkur XR4Ti, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe…and then gas prices fell and the Mustang GT became the star. The SVO has one of the most unique (and short-lived, and polarizing) front end designs in Mustang history. This is a great example and should be fun to watch!”

“I worked a security detail guarding this car and the others Mr. Yamagata was painting at his Malibu studio. The cars were stored in a multi level parking garage overlooking the Pacific. All the cars were painted in various tropical scenes. Quite a sight to see all of them together.”

“Love seeing this. Although the sedans were more practical (we had the Regency 4 door in this color combo), the look of these fabulous coupes makes it appear to go on forever. My father was a senior design engineer at Olds, and he was part of this design team. Brings back memories of my childhood anticipating the new car show every year to see what was new about each line, and what the taillights were going to look like with each new model year.

I remember in the early 2000s when all the trade rags showed the new Mustang. they were beautiful. I would periodically go and test drive them. I remember once driving a GT with a 3.73 rear end and a 5-speed manual and that thing had some git up and go!
