“The Shelby Shadows are the one Whittier issue I never owned. But I did have a Shadow ES 4dr with the VNT Turbo lV which is even more rare. The variable nozzle turbo was magic, with low RPM response and torque to match the top end. It was also brave of Garrett to put a dynamic turbo housing into a production car with the vicious heat cycle. Mine grenaded when fortunately I was able to find a complete new one off the shelf.

“I was a dispatcher at Greyhound in the 80s just after the last Buffalos were retired. One thing you used to see in ads for used buses was “Never a Greyhound,” meant to say it was never thrashed in daily Dog service and probably wouldn’t have chicken bones shoved into all the heater outlets. “Fun memory. I purchased a very clean, low milage `64 Galaxie 500XL
R-Code 427 4 speed when I returned from Vietnam in `67.
Paid $1700, 59 years ago, when these were just very nice “Used Cars”.
Now, these survivors are the best of the full size “Muscle Cars” extant.”

“I drove one of these on the Lotus Factory test track, a phenomenal car. This has the touring suspension which makes it a nice daily driver. I did not drive an Emira with the sport suspension but from what I hear it is still very streetable. I have a friend with an Emira so far the only repairs are software updates.”

Also, did you know that the ’84, with it’s hold over “SC interior” is the lightest of the ’84 to ’89 Carreras? Going through the paperwork, I found the title, with Axl Rose’s name on it. Guns ‘n Roses’ Axl Rose.
So I washed it a bit, advertised it in The Recycler and flipped it for $2000. Felt like a genius.
