“This example is all steel. The Fulvia coupe 1.2 were all steel up to VIN 018988 and all aluminium panels to the last one VIN 021436 So 2448 coupe 1.2 with aluminium panels.
This one looks very original througout. For now I can only see that the tyres are not the original height 185/70R14 The original size is 145/80R14.”

“Transmission is an M6 presto-matic WITH fluid drive. 2 gears in low range and 2 gears in high range. Rumor is it 2 gears in reverse but I have never attempted it in my 50 Chrysler equipped with the same trans. Fluid drive is the coupler between the trans and engine which works as an early torque converter basically allowing to come to a stop without taking out gear. Most people start in high range (Where 3rd is like a 3 on the tree) and at 12-18 MPH you just lift your foot off the gas and wait…”

“Lets talk about tires. It was noted that I spend tons of money restoring these Elans and then use cheap tires. There is a very limited selection of 13″ tires available. You can’t just go to Tire Rack and get Michelin Pilot Sports. They just don’t make them in 13”.
The original tire on an early Elan was a bias ply 145 series. Very narrow. Although you can get some 145 or 165X80 series tires, I prefer the slightly wider but not any taller 165X65X13 tires. They fit the wheel well and still have…”

“Man oh man, nobody writes any more like these guys did. Never knew it was anything other than as-expected and normal when I’d wait for my Car and Driver, Road & Track and Auto Week magazines to arrive in the mail to immediately read from front to back beginning as a 6 or 7 year old in the 70’s.
No wonder I became a car nut. It can be attributed to the brilliant authors of the articles written by these guys.

“Over the past fifty years, we’ve owned too many Saabs to count and a few Porsches along the way. An older perfectly maintained low miles Porsche comes through BaT every week. “Happy 9/28! I’ve owned many cars since I started driving in 2009, and the 928 remains my favorite car of all time. I’ll occasionally go lengthy periods without driving one (months at a time), and begin to question whether something else is worthy of that mantle in my own mind. Then I’ll hop into one and go for a drive, immediately erasing any doubt that it remains top dog.”

“There have been a lot of good comments on cooling and radiators.
My Griffith was upgraded with all of the mentioned modifications but nothing worked until I installed a chin spoiler under the radiator. All cars today have chin spoilers, for a reason.
Regarding cabin temperatures, my headers are ceramic coated and there is proper insulation under the carpet, keeping me cool as a cucumber, even on the hottest days.
This is all for my Griffith but a 2500M is basically the same only…”

“Every time I get off of mine, I think to myself what a great machine it is! These also look so much better than the brand new RT, at least to my eye. For prospective buyers, it’s worth knowing that BMW pays for driveshaft service every 12,000 miles, with replacement at their cost somewhere in the 36,000 mile range. It might take some time for this low mileage example to get there, but knowing they service it free is added peace of mind. I’m so impressed by my 2015.”

“Not an uncommon swap in the late 1980s. I recall reading a Pontiac Magazine from that era where someone restored a ’69 Firebird that had the Chevy motor in it. There were far more parts available for small block Chevys either through catalogs like J.C. Whitney, or in junkyards, which were chock full of them. And, hey, if it ain’t broke…why fix it? If it gets to the point where the 350 needs to be pulled, then you can start thinking about putting a proper Pontiac motor back in. But,…”
