“I bought mine new in June of 1986….I was 24……I ordered it…….the last time it had 77 miles on it was 3 days after i bought it. I put 230,000 on it by….1998 ish. Never had it apart, but used synthetic oil from 10,000 on. Sold it for….$3600. GLWA”

One of my best friends ordered a ‘63 Galaxie 500 XL Oxford Blue convertible with the 406/405 Tri-Power engine …By the time it arrived it had the new upgraded 427/425 Dual Quad engine..I can vividly remember the first time opening the hood and seeing those chrome valve covers marked 427-T ….I believe the “T” was for transistor ignition.
The ‘63 Galaxie has always been my favorite Ford, especially the
“R” code Fastback version.”

“Transmission is an M6 presto-matic WITH fluid drive. 2 gears in low range and 2 gears in high range. Rumor is it 2 gears in reverse but I have never attempted it in my 50 Chrysler equipped with the same trans. Fluid drive is the coupler between the trans and engine which works as an early torque converter basically allowing to come to a stop without taking out gear. Most people start in high range (Where 3rd is like a 3 on the tree) and at 12-18 MPH you just lift your foot off the gas and wait…”
