    “I kind of feel like the 997.2 Turbo S is a hidden menu item. So many people talk about 997.1 Turbos and 991.1 Turbos, but this remains akin to a secret for enthusiasts.
    It has the smaller, more nimble feel of the 997 chassis coupled with the ferocity and traction of the PDK and AWD, and although these aren’t the Mezger engines they are stout.
    This generation remains somewhat of a ‘if you know you know’ type of Porsche, and there is SO MUCH to absolutely love about it. GLWTA!”

    “John Weinberger had one of these in white at Continental Imports in La Grange, IL back in 1970. My dad was considering buying it, but I think at 5’-11” he couldn’t get comfortable in it. He ended up buying the fly yellow De Tomaso Mangusta John had, instead. That’s the car in which he picked me up at Orange County Airport when I was discharged from the Army in 1971. Sure wish he’d kept that car, or either of the two E-Types he owned (one of which he’d bought from Mr. Weinberger).”

  • BaT Auction Success Story: Seller Turned Buyer with a STS-V You Should Know

    After selling six vehicles, BaT member loganpopo celebrated his first win in September 2025: a 2007 Cadillac STS-V auctioned by skillda1. loganpopo recently wrote in to tell us about his road trip home with the car.
    Anything with an engine has always been a part of my life—cars, dirt bikes, jet skis, and boats. These things filled my childhood thanks to my father. These childhood moments were more than just about the machines themselves—they were lessons. He taught my brother and me to respect them and how to shop for them. He also taught us how to communicate with a seller, what details to pay attention to, and more importantly, that you buy the seller and the story as much as you evaluate the condition of the car.

    “I love brown cars, probs because my mom’s car when I was a kid was a 1970 Tobacco Brown MB 250 base model. No A/C, but it did have a sunroof. I learned how to drive in that car by driving it across the USA when we moved from Cleveland to Colorado Springs in 1977 on a learner’s permit.     I inched the TT up to the starting line, stopping when the steward waved his hand. I squinted through the windshield at the course laid out in front of me—hundreds of orange traffic cones dutifully showing the way I should go and the way I shouldn’t. The goal was to complete all the twists and turns and short straights as fast as I could without hitting any of the cones or spinning out or worse. It would be a race against the clock, the most ruthless opponent of any racer, and my heart was pounding. I shook my head clear, reminding myself it was my first autocross ever and that I had to lowball my expectations. Temper my approach. Drive within my limits. Not be too eager or aggressive. Rely on my half-century of driving fast in all sorts of cars and conditions and let the seat of my pants be my guide. Easy peasy, right? Right. So I looked over at the steward. Gave him a thumbs-up and he gave me a nod back then signaled the starter to switch on the Christmas tree. Gulp.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: Mini Trail, Major Memories — Explained

    The Honda Z50 represents more than just a mini-bike to BaT user IndieRockBassPlayer, who won this 1968 Z50A Mini Trail from AJDiMizio in a July 2025 BaT auction. He wrote to tell us more about it:
    Years ago, my mother—tired of the brutal Wisconsin winters—moved my family from Madison, Wisconsin, to San Diego, California. I was only 13 at the time. Ten years earlier, she had relocated to the Midwest in 1967 with three kids in tow to be closer to family after the untimely death of my father, who was a naval aviator. I was only three years old then. The 10 years I lived in Madison will always represent a magical time in my life, filled with special memories of the never-ending drowsy summer skies. Time stood still for every child, and none of us had a care in the world, never realizing that each of those days was a gift and that real life (and all its challenges) was only right around the corner.

    We’re back to announce the winner for our Question of the Week, where our victor will accept a $25 credit for a hat or T-shirt from the BaT Gear Store and the acclaim of their peers.

    Our question this week was: What’s the coolest art car?

    Thanks to everyone who chimed in! These kinds of questions typically invite perspectives from across the BaT community, and your responses certainly ran the gamut. Of course, we’re not the kind of art snobs who tell you what you should like, so this week’s winner goes to the nomination with the most likes—our People’s Choice!
