“Awesome! Thanks @cbjeep and team for saving it, but not overdoing it. I really appreciate the BaT community’s comments throughout this auction; they really helped me form a more fulsome picture of the car. The debate on condition is always entertaining, and really a personal preference thing. To me, this is as cool as it gets: a (nearly) guilt-free driver with character that’s impossible to replicate. It will look great next to Freiburger’s Disgustang!”

“Nice to see car I built in the 80sdid all metal and paint for John did what he wanted. Twisted my arm hard to modify being I like to restore to original builds. But John had a dream and I did for him. Have pictures of me doing car. Great comment tempting to want in my shop again. Would love to talk to John but believe he has passed. Maybe talk to mercuryKG7H some time. So blessed I had my hands in a beautiful fine Ferrari. Frogman.”

“With the recent unveiling of the Dark Horse SC, it only cements that the GT350/R is the last of its breed. Naturally aspirated, special engine (high revving flat plane crank) with a high quality Tremec transmission. The car has already reached legendary status, often compared with a Porsche GT3. The sound is intoxicating, especially north of 6,000 rpms.”

“Ah, the memories. Throwing those doors open to exit on a timed response only to have them not latch and come back on your hand, head, legs. Failing to latch the turret and spinning around on corners… enough to make you nauseous. Or backing in to the ATF with the M-60 not latched in the neutral position and bending the barrel (this actually happened). Maybe catching your boot on the door opening ledge and face planting. No one who rode in one doesn’t have an opinion on them.”

“I own one of these (long story), so I know they are something of a novelty rather than a serious sports car.

“I live in Great Falls and recognized the lead photo. The fellow that accumulated these had a beautiful collection of fully restored cars. He owned several bars in town and had a gorgeous 50’s Corvette in one of them, Classic 50’s Diner. I am guessing these are either donors or projects he ran out of time for. One’s demise will do that to you.”

“I daily drove a very similar example for about a year and 13,000 miles – same year, 6 speed, RWD, ZSP, no nav.
I still think about it ALL the time. Out of the 20+ BMWs I’ve owned (including *four other E91s*, that one was one of my favorites and by far my favorite E91.
IMO, the miles aren’t that scary. Do the clutch/flywheel, but you shouldn’t have any other notable issues otherwise. A 3 stage manifold would be a nice add-on as well. This car is also pretty close to a stripper spec…”

“I had a ’68 for almost 20 years. I personally feel that the early SWB is the loveliest iteration of the 911, ever: cleanest lines, sublime, reductive design. 1968 has a bunch of “year-only” features that make it extra cool. Good luck to whoever wins this beauty and whatever you do afterwards, update this car to carrera chain tensioners immediately. It’s an easy upgrade and will save your engine when the original tensioners fail, which they definitely will. Awesome car!”
