    Our question this week was: What car wore quad headlamps best?

    This week’s discussion was full of variety, as over 130 unique nominations were thrown into the ring—kudos to all of you!

    After taking a long hard look at all of your four-eyed picks, the most-mentioned nominee is this week’s winner. The first-generation Pontiac GTO, specifically the stacked headlight cars of 1965-67, won the popular vote. BaT member @SingleClutch was the first to nominate it:

    Sometimes a car purchase feels destined from the start. That’s exactly how it happened with my modified 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo, which I spotted on Bring a Trailer just as our group of 10 friends was planning a trip to California for the Luftgekühlt Air|Water show.

    “To the best of my knowledge all the Super Sprints received 5 speed transmissions. I’ve even worked on a Tipo 4 5 speed gearbox. My own 1954 CSS 01770, still has it’s 5 speed column shift. The shift pattern is no different than a floor shifter, pull the shifter towards you and up for first and down for second and so on. I’ve owned this car since 1976.”

    BaT Success Story: To Rebelle or Not to Rebelle — Explained

    Our latest Success Story comes from BaT member Richard55, whose wife and her teammate recently completed the 2025 Rebelle Rally in the 1993 Land Rover Defender 110 NAS that he won from GTBoy in a September 2024 BaT auction. Richard55 wrote to tell us about it:
    I have owned a few Range Rover Classics and was looking for a different experience. I also wanted to teach my son how to drive a manual transmission. We had gotten more into off-roading in recent years. I was looking for a NAS 110, and when this truck came up in my BaT notifications, it was an unrepeatable opportunity. Finding a lifetime California truck in great condition, with low miles, and located close to home—especially with so few of these made—was unlikely to happen again. I met the seller during the auction to look at the truck, expecting to be disappointed once I saw it in person and had a chance to crawl underneath. I called my wife afterward and told her it was in better condition than expected from the listing. No rust to be found. The A/C wasn’t working, and it needed a new headliner—as described. We discussed how much we were willing to spend and which truck we would sell if we won the auction.

    I met John at Amelia Island when he brought the car to the Concours Show.
    He was spending time with my old pal, Jean Jennings (Jean Knows Cars) whom I had met years earlier at the Hilton Head Concours Show when we spent the day together with Jay Ward (Pixar)
    What a great memory…
    This example is obviously one of the best builds I have ever seen and my best to John and all the folks who made it possible.

    “1st real job at the age of 15 in North Hollywood CA was pumping gas at the Texaco station. Sky Chief (the premium blend) was 29.9¢ per gallon, and I’d check your oil and tire pressure and clean your windshield, if you wanted. I still remember the guy in the ‘56 Chevy that let me struggle for a while trying to find the gas cap. He finally laughed and told me to try opening the driver’s side tail light. Good times.”

    Here’s baT Auction Success Story: Ex-Peter Herke BMW Racer Prepares to Get Back on Track

    BaT member NK_TiSA is a vintage racing legend in his own right, and recently kicked off a period transformation of the Ex-Peter Herke ’68 BMW 1600-2 racer that he won from smdickey in an August 2025 BaT auction. He wrote in to tell us the story of his purchase and give an update on work in progress:
    I have been racing cars for over six decades. Over the last few years, I’d been having the thought that it may be time to hang up my helmet. With that in mind, I thought about selling my collection of vintage BMW race cars, so my kids wouldn’t have to deal with them if and when. It began with the sale of my beloved BMW 700 racer, which I sold on BaT at the end of 2023.

    “With the recent unveiling of the Dark Horse SC, it only cements that the GT350/R is the last of its breed. Naturally aspirated, special engine (high revving flat plane crank) with a high quality Tremec transmission. The car has already reached legendary status, often compared with a Porsche GT3. The sound is intoxicating, especially north of 6,000 rpms.”
