Understanding baT Auction Success Story: One R8, Hold the Chips

This Success Story comes to us from BaT member Catman1978, who won this 2017 Audi R8 V10 Plus Coupe from M.Dolby in a July 2025 BaT auction:

Like many people, I was hooked on the Audi R8 when I saw it on the road for the first time in 2008. The body lines, the side blades, and the sound of its V10 were amazing. Over the years, I had dreamed of owning one, but life just didn’t align until recently. I’d been watching and bidding on cars on BaT for the last two years, but hadn’t made it to the “finish line” until a couple of months ago. I purchased a 2017 Plus coupe with 17k miles on it. To be honest, I had never driven one before the purchase, but I knew I’d love it.

The car is nothing short of amazing. Even when I’m not driving it, I like to go out into the garage and look at it. The seller lives in Idaho, and I reside in California, so naturally, I thought the best idea was to drive it home. I thought I was pretty smart, looking at maps for the best routes and checking on upcoming weather conditions. However, one thing I didn’t check was the actual road conditions in Idaho and southeast Oregon; they were “chip sealing” the roads in both states—for miles! I can’t even begin to tell you how big of a “knot” I felt in my stomach. Fortunately, the car sustained no damage even with other cars throwing small chips up everywhere; thankfully, the R8 has PPF on its front end. If you take that part of the trip out of the equation, everything else was great!

If you have a Success Story about a car you’ve bought or sold on BaT, please send a few lines and pictures (or a video) to community.content@bringatrailer.com, and we’ll send you a $50 credit to the BaT Gear Store when your story posts to the site.

We love to hear from satisfied BaT buyers and sellers, and a Success Story feature is a great addition to any car’s history when you’re ready to sell.

BaT member WrayG3 won this 1995 Honda Del Sol VTEC, which came to BaT for the second time in April 2025 with The_Dude_Abides. WrayG3 recently wrote in with an update:
This particular Del Sol caught my attention the first time on Bring a Trailer in November 2023, a year and a half or so before I acquired it as a BaT Alumnus car in April 2025. The first time it showed up, I had just started a family and a new business (G3 Motorsports), and the timing wasn’t right to add another toy. I sat back and watched the car move on to its new home. I’ve been a Del Sol owner since 2004, currently own a 1995 Si that was my first car, and this example was my holy grail. Being a one-year-only color, Isle Green Pearl was the rarest of the bunch and only available on B16 VTEC Del Sols.

BaT member Pdigwig took his family on a camping trip on the way home from picking up the EuroVan Winnebago Camper that he won from ovdays in an August 2025 BaT auction, and he wrote in to tell us about it:
After winning the auction on August 4, I contacted the owner, Richard, and asked if he could store the EuroVan Camper until I could fly from Detroit to Tucson to pick it up. He kindly agreed and moved the van to a storage area, where he kept it until October, when I finally had time off. It had been sitting for two months when my wife, our oldest daughter, and I flew into Phoenix to begin our journey home in Marshmallow, the EuroVan Winnebago Camper. We landed, rented a car, and drove down to the storage area near Tucson.

Our next Success Story comes to us from BaT member hipoDunc, who won this 5.4L-powered 1995 Ford Mustang GT coupe from ioeth in a November 2024 BaT auction:
I was lounging around on a Sunday morning when I noticed an auction for a 1995 Mustang GT nearing its end. After reading the listing, I realized that it had a fully built and stroked small block Ford V8 as well as every conceivable chassis and drivetrain modification! Are you kidding me?! I placed some bids, and reality didn’t sink in until I unexpectedly won it; I was not planning on going further, but I didn’t need to! It was mine.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: GT350SE Signature Edition—Signed, Sealed, and Delivered You Should Know

This Success Story comes to us from BaT member laffman, who won this 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350SE Signature Edition coupe from BaT seller and Local Partner the_patina_group in an August 2025 BaT auction:
The Bring a Trailer platform has become the premier place for serious collectors, and my recent experience with this 2020 Shelby GT350SE confirmed why. The thrill of bidding on BaT is something most enthusiasts understand: the countdown and the adrenaline as the community watches alongside you. For me, the thrill turned into reality when I became the highest bidder on a 2020 Shelby GT350SE—a car that represents both rarity and performance excellence. As the bids came in during the final moments, the energy was electric. The feeling of seeing “You Won!” on the screen was unforgettable—not only because I won the car, but because I knew I was now a part of Shelby history.

  • BaT Auction Success Story: GMC Pickup is a Winter Win for Summer Nights

BaT member TreeHD picked up this 1955 GMC 150 pickup that he won from Drager54 in a December 2025 BaT auction:
I won this 1955 GMC 100 pickup truck back on December 31, 2025, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with the whole process. I had been looking for a mid-1950s to early 1960s Chevy or GMC truck or panel van for quite some time. I looked on eBay and Facebook Marketplace, but was disappointed with the whole process. Finally, I looked on BaT and followed several auctions, checking in on the models I was interested in and their hammer price. I liked the buyer interaction along with all the fellas who added their endless wealth of information.

BaT member pevans has built himself a home garage of sorts around his BaT wins, which include a 2002 Panoz Esperante purchased from Techno, this 1991 Porsche 944 S2 sold by Pipoto, this 1986 944 Turbo auctioned by jmtwilson, Indy Car carbon-fiber bodywork offered by IvantS8, a quarter midget racer project listed by Markwins123, and his partner’s 1992 Porsche 968 cab bought from Local Partner motorcarmarketusa.

I wanted to send you a different kind of Success Story. I’ve been building onto my existing garage, and while we were hanging up some wall art, my partner in crime—Brenda—made a remark: this was a garage that Bring a Trailer helped build. I stopped what I was doing and looked around. “Well, I guess it is,” I replied.
