“Wow! I watched the walk around video. Brings back memories from the Series 1 I bought new in 1970 just out of college, 08877. I recognized every little detail, like the seatbelt holder clips and engine wire wraps. The only thing missing is the smell of a new car, maybe that’s there too. Incredible. Unfortunately I sold mine a couple years ago on BAT. It has a good home and hopefully will be restored someday. This car should make it close to the all time highs for an auction.”

“My father loved VWs and I grew up surrounded by a barnyard of mostly early 50s cars and vans. We swapped engines without any regard for anything except which ones ran the best. This is an amazing car anyway, but what truly astonishes me is the original engine still in place. Incredible.”

“Worked at Scottsdale Ferrari in the 90’s. We found two Daytona Spyder’s in an airplane hangar in Mexico. One orange, one was chocolate brown metallic. Both had the same color interior as this one. One had 3,500 miles, the other had 1,800 miles. Yes, they were legit Spyders.
The owner kept talking about stripping them to paint them red. I am unsure if he did but thinking about it makes me sad. From what I was able to find, only 2 were built in orange and 2 in brown. Sure hope they were…”

“Lets talk about tires. It was noted that I spend tons of money restoring these Elans and then use cheap tires. There is a very limited selection of 13″ tires available. You can’t just go to Tire Rack and get Michelin Pilot Sports. They just don’t make them in 13”.
The original tire on an early Elan was a bias ply 145 series. Very narrow. Although you can get some 145 or 165X80 series tires, I prefer the slightly wider but not any taller 165X65X13 tires. They fit the wheel well and still have…”

“Over the past fifty years, we’ve owned too many Saabs to count and a few Porsches along the way. An older perfectly maintained low miles Porsche comes through BaT every week. However, those who own Saabs enjoy the wheels off them. A Porsche is often a third or fourth car in a stable. A Saab is the daily driver and gets the miles. “Happy 9/28! I’ve owned many cars since I started driving in 2009, and the 928 remains my favorite car of all time. I’ll occasionally go lengthy periods without driving one (months at a time), and begin to question whether something else is worthy of that mantle in my own mind.
