“As a young couple we had a 1964 122sw from Massachusetts was which perfect given my tip income as a student & bartender. We ran it until the 225,000 mile mark and sold it for more than we paid for it. This restoration corrects for all of my Volvos obsolescence or weaknesses; larger engine; better fuel delivery; rust remediation, nice interior and respectable paint job. This one is a keeper! Thanks for posting.”

Car was a later production VIN so had a couple unique and relatively rare options … Rosso scuderia brake calipers … only available in the later production run as many cars had Rosso corsa calipers even though the exterior was spec’d in Rosso scuderia … one of those details that ‘if you know you notice’

“For those who are about to restore one of these models some advice. One of the most frustrating part of the restoration was obtaining the right size rubber souround for the door opennings. Tried twice from a well known UK supplier and they both failed. Found a Cicogna made part at a German supplier which finally worked.”

“I was a teenager HS student working at the corner service station. We had a local Dr that had one of these, his was the beautiful dark blue with matching padded top. He would pull in for gas, 27 gallon tank. After putting the car in “Park” he would tilt the wheel which would almost go horizontal on these and throw a small towel that covered the wheel from rim edge to edge. Gas up. Then………the fun would begin! Around to the car wash. Customers would be directed into the wash at the correct…”

“These cars are just great. I bought a 2024 manual on a whim last year and have zero regrets. They do it all so well. My fair weather daily drivers last summer were this Golf, a 2018 GT3 Touring, and my venerable 993. For regular use, the Golf is ~80% of the fun of the GT3 for 20% of the money. Sold the GT3 shortly thereafter just because I prefer the Golf. Will never sell the 993, though.”

“My heart skipped a beat when I saw this. My first job out of college was working for TDM in Livonia MI which later became Wheel to Wheel a prototype shop for GM’s Jon Moss. We built a 383 6spd SS with a rollcage for GM Special Vehicles to do high speed testing at MIS. I don’t think this is that car but always wondered what happened to it and many others. Great first engineering job for a young gear head.”

“In the 70’s my Dad owned/operated a MB repair garage in CA. I used to work with him off/on to assist. His biggest job was a 300 SL roadster a client brought in to have the engine, transmission and differential rebuilt prior to shipping the car off to do the complete renovation. When my Dad completed all of the mechanical work, he asked if I’d like to take the SL out for its first test drive. I was surprised and happy to. I took it easy, went through the gears and put about 5 miles on it.…”
