Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle (EV) brand of Geely Auto (HKEX: 0175), announced that the 5-seat version of its flagship hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV), the Zeekr 9X, will officially launch on July 28.

Zeekr said through its official social media channels on Thursday that firm orders for the model will open at 10:00 am Beijing Time on July 28, without a launch event.

The approach is unusual in China’s auto industry, where new vehicle launches are typically accompanied by high-profile promotional events. Customers are generally required to pay a non-refundable deposit to place a firm order.

The 5-seat Zeekr 9X began pre-sales on July 8, with customers eligible for limited-time benefits worth as much as 90,000 yuan ($13,290). The package includes a complimentary Naim premium audio system, a sliding display and powered running boards.

A 5,000-yuan reservation deposit can be used to offset 10,000 yuan from the final purchase payment. Pricing for the model has yet to be announced.

The interior of the 5-seat Zeekr 9X emphasizes spaciousness and a premium experience, including as much as 1.4 meters of second-row legroom and zero-gravity seats for two rear passengers.

The addition of a 5-seat version gives the Zeekr 9X another option alongside its existing 6-seat configuration, helping the flagship hybrid reach a broader range of premium buyers.

Domestic rival Nio Inc (NYSE: NIO) officially launched a 5-seat version of its large electric SUV, the ES8, on July 9, after the 3-row version had been a strong seller for nearly a year.

The Zeekr 9X was officially launched in September 2025 with a starting price of 465,900 yuan. It is Zeekr’s first hybrid model.

The vehicle is built on Geely’s SEA-S platform, the super-hybrid variant of its Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA), and uses a full-stack 900-volt high-voltage hybrid system.

Higher-trim versions are equipped with a 3-motor megawatt electric-drive system producing as much as 1,030 kW, or 1,381 hp, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 3.1 seconds.

The Zeekr 9X is a key model in the brand’s push into the luxury-car market, with cumulative deliveries approaching 70,000 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost.

However, the model’s momentum has weakened over the past 3 months. Zeekr delivered 6,382 units of the 9X in June, down 24.39% from May.

Deliveries of the Zeekr 9X totaled 46,869 units in the first half of the year. Monthly deliveries reached a first-half high of 10,191 units in March, surging 94.45% from February.

Zeekr delivered 35,169 vehicles in June, up 110.57% year-on-year and setting a new monthly record. The brand delivered 178,370 vehicles in the first half, an increase of 96.57% from a year earlier.

The Zeekr 9X will officially enter overseas markets in the third quarter, according to a plan previously announced by the company.
